Title: Tank Girl
Post by: Neville on November 25, 2006, 04:09:49 PM
About the lesbian kiss scene, it really is quite tame. It takes place during the first third of the movie, where both Jet Girl and Tank Girl are being kept prisoners in Keslee's mine or whatever it is. Jet Girl is being harassed by Kesslee's sideshow, and Tank Girl solves the situation by kissing Jet Girl in front of him, which results in the man being disgusted at it and leaving them alone.

The (faded dialogue) quote is actually "Crumpets and tea."  As in: "Tasty!  Crumpets and tea; all in favor say aye."

This film has some definate positive points,
including the great props, costumes, design,
and political play. But it still stinks.
Come on, this is the movie equivalent to
Poochie the Dog. Tank Girl is SO proactive
and in-your-face, spouting out hip
one-liners without adding any weight to
the dialogue. Take Mad Max, punkify him
by 20%, and make it PC (hey, lets
change him into a girl!) and youve got
the basic idea down. The comic may
have been something really interesting;
but as with all comics, when making the movie they
obviously had to make a movie.
In this case, they failed to translate it
coherently. That is not to say it isnt
entertaining. Bud I'd much rather watch
something that makes sense, like Buckaroo Banzai
or Zardoz.

A B-Movie the deserves to become a classic.
While it has it's flaws, it stands up to repeat viewings and it's dialog works it's way into your normal vocab.

Lori Petty as tank girls is on-liner magic.

I think the reviewer was pot on in the comment that normal people are almost incapable of enjoying this movie.  I thank nebulous, ill-defined deitied every day that I am abnormal.  In terms of presenting a comic book on-screen, this is almost a precursor of "The Hulk"-- I wonder if Ang Lee took a lot of notes watching this...?

This movie is the best movie ever. Period.

(Well, almost.)

Hey, I liked this movie. Yeah, it's certainly unique for a superhero film, but I enjoyed it. Malcolm Mc Dowell made a good villain, Lori Petty was funny, I loved the scenes when they were interacting with each other. This movie's no "Spider- Man," but it's definitely better than "Batman and Robin" and "The Hulk" put together, though, admittedly, that's not saying much.

Dude. The "real" Tank Girl would never waste beer like that.

I like this movie and I really don't think the review should have been so harsh.  It was a fun movie to watch.  Sure it has it flaws but who cares, as long people can enjoy it.  I'm not one to rip most movies apart.  If someone gives a movie a bad review usually it's more than likely something I will watch.  I won't say I'm normal.  I never read the comic for Tank Girl, but even if I did I doubt if it would be disappointing.

I don't think my review was that harsh. I mean, I gave it three slimes, so it should be clear that I think it is quite decent. I also had lots of fun when I saw it for the first time. But yet you have to admit that it has many flaws, and that most of the people who watched it are still trying to recover. Read the IMDB comments if you have the time, they are really amusing.

Fun!Fun!Fun!
Sure it has flaws (basic, fundamental, deeply rooted flaws), but really, what Malcolm McDowell movie doesn't?  (A Clockwork what?)

Cute dialogue, a more-or-less comprehensible plot (stack it up against, say, 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico', and see if Tank Girl doesn't start making loads and loads of sense!), and a song-and-dance routine.  And Joan Jett on the soundtrack!

Really, where is the bad side?

"Normal" people CAN'T watch this. Thankfully, I'm hardly normal. I watched this WAY before I even knew what the f**k a b-movie was, and now that I am clear, I say this is a masterpiece of the genre, easily in the same class as "Army of Darkness".

I agree fully with this reveiw, and think that the owner of this web site made a good choice in putting tank girl on this web site. I guess the thrashers lost some of there intelligence in the process, because they certainly had no taste in poetry. Well, there are more horrible movies that await me, So good ridants!!!

The best parts of this movie is the cartoons. Too bad they're too short because they're really funny, unusual and dynamic. I hope someday to find a dvd with all the deleted scenes. I saw them on the collection cards and they are interesting.

I saw this movie on TBS and it was censored like crazy.  It totally cut out the lesbian kiss scene, so please tell me more about this.  Does anybody have a downloadable mpeg or at least a few pictures of this?  Dont make me go out and buy this movie, now.  I doubt I could find it anyways, I tried and couldnt before.

This is the only movie that Lori Petty was good in. I guess you had to have liked the comic to like the movie even though it isn't as good........

This isn't a review, it's procrasination because whom ever wrote this, has way to many standards, no sense of immagination, or clearly an open mind to this sort of film.  First off, all movies are not perfect. This may not be the greatest movie in the world, but it's pretty good for it is, and if you can accept that, then you just might enjoy it, instead of instigating all of its "flaws."  I don't know what you need to recover from after seeing this movie, seriously, the only think I can see you suffering from is a hard ass. Secondly, if you don't enjoy movies with swearing, violence, and content that is of sexual nature, then why are you watching them, besides, the movie was clearly rated R.  Your review was way harsh, even despite the fact you say it was decent, you're working a paradox here, you can't sit there and complain about it then turn around and say you thought it was decent.

Man, can't you just recognise sarcasm when you see it? My ambivalence towards the movie, which I gladly admit, is because the movie is lots of fun, agreed, but at the same time it feels like rubbing your brains with sandpaper.

And yes, I enjoy movies with lots of sex, violence and so on. And if you had seen this one, you'd know it lacks all these things. When I mention them in the review is to note that if they planned to censor all these things, which play quite an important role in the comic book, they should have looked for another source material.

I enjoyed it to a point. I could have made a much better version of it. It pushed man bashing in your face until you just couldn't enjoy the movie as much as you might. Also it was way to P.C. Who really cares about P.C. topics? They're sterile and boring. We need dynamic tension in movies. My impression of the comic was not what I saw in the movie. I would have made the movie far more serious toned. More real than sureal. I like movies were they are trying to stay serious even though the funding is low as well though. Like
SHE. That movie is a case were the actors were doing their best inspite of it looking corny. In Tank Girl they took corny to intentional levels that got annoying.

How can you say Tank Girl is a bad movie? Ok the plot hasn't got much to it, but ITS TANK GIRL!!

She wasn't portrayed exactly as in the comics, but whats the big deal? Lori Petty, the other actors and the scriptwriters had to put their own spin on it to try and make it appeal to a wider audience, because lets face it not that many people have read and understand Tank Girl.

The filming in it was fantastic, or at least the camera angles used to reflect Tank Girls attitudes were genius. Although the kiss between Tank Girl and Jet Girl was brief it was still hot. The directors managed to make Tank Girl and Jet Girl almost effortlessly sexy - the film didn't really NEED sex scenes.

Sorry, just had to defend.

I dunno why, but I love this movie. I think the Rippers were adorable, lmao. They were so perverted that you just have to love them. I just recently watched it twice. I'm thinking of watching it again, XD.

I don't think a film has ever made better use of mutant kangeroos.

Lori Petty is Tank Girl.

Fact.

I loved every minute of this b movie, but its still its got a limited appeal. It has one of the best uncomfortably funny lines in movie history:
"Just think about it like the first you got laid.  You just gotta go 'Daddy, are you sure this is right?'

John Dashwood's comment has convinced me that "politically incorrect" is a PC term for "whiny entitled white guys who feel their privilege threatened by anything non-white dude." One movie that dumps on guys (and not even to the severity that most movies dump on chicks) and he can't take it. He probably sees a black guy walking down the street and screams "TOKENISM!1!!!" and thinks that sitcom dads are worse than Apartheid.

Anyway, Tank Girl is one of my favorite movies. Lori Petty is a blast, and the sets, costumes and SFX are all droolworthy. I wish Talalay hadn't been royally screwed by the studio, but even the butchered version is pretty good. It makes a great party movie. Here's hoping we see a Director's Cut sometime.

Can you imagine a "serious" Tank Girl? Snoresville.

@Johnny Kaje. "John Dashwood's comment has convinced me that "politically incorrect" is a PC term for "whiny entitled white guys who feel their privilege threatened by anything non-white dude."  One movie that dumps on guys (and not even to the severity that most movies dump on chicks) and he can't take it. And yours, my friend, has convinced me that the sort of person who can persuade himself that an F-Grade bomb like this is actually awesome is liable to be not the most reasonable on other levels.  You know, the whole "tolerating different opinions" thing, and all that?

I have seen this film myself and was not impressed.  At all.  I don't even think it's a fun bad movie, either.  It's way, way too self-conscious for that.

So... looks like I'm normal.  Whew!

Title: Re: Tank Girl -- Who is the actor who gets blown up by his own grenades?
Post by: dpepper73 on November 25, 2012, 02:02:05 AM
Okay, I've seen Tank Girl before but I had never noticed a particular actor until now.  I'm really hoping that someone can help me figure out who he is or other movies he's been in.  The actor in question is the guy that gets sand thrown in his face and then gets blown up by his own grenades.  Lori Petty thinks that he is her boyfriend and begins cutting her pantyhose in an attempt to turn him on, but of course, it's not her boyfriend.  It's a soldier or whatever from Water & Power.  I can picture him in my mind's eye in another movie and it's driving me nuts!  In the other movie I think he plays a bad guy in search of the good guy, but it's like he's always a few minutes too late.  I wanna say that this other movie is kind of campy and corny, but I could be wrong and that's a matter of opinion anyway.  I've checked all sorts of websites like imdb.com, but since it was just a small part he doesn't get credited.  I will be super grateful for whoever can help me with this one!

I haven't seen "Tank Girl" since it was first released on VHS back in the day. If memory serves, it seemed like it was all about being "weird for weird's sake," rather than interested in telling a good story. It had some funny bits but by the time the half-human, half-kangaroo mutants appeared, I was like "Check please."
