Title: Worst Movie Theme Song
Post by: Mr. DS on November 26, 2006, 12:26:45 PM
After watching and reviewing Skullduggery recently, I had to wonder what some people thought were the worst movie theme songs (and/or music) of all time.  Skullduggery is easily in my top 3.  Perhaps followed closely by the Silver Shamrock song from Halloween 3 and "Nightmare" from Nightmare On Elm Street 4.  Any thoughts?

The theme from Yor, The Hunter From The Future. I don't know whether to hate it or love it for its cheese factor.

The theme to the pilot episode/movie of "Buck Rogers" is pretty amazingly bad.  It is this soft sort of wondering thing, set to instrumentals and you can tell they were trying to inspire wonder in the audience.

However, my hands down winner has to be "Blood Money" from "Space Rage."  Two writers were credited for the song, which is mostly guitar and such.  There are a total of two words, repeated over and over.  Those words would be "blood" and "money."  Imagine that going on for five minutes.

That song in "For Yu'r Height Only"  (the Weng Weng movie) always annoyed me, lame sappy drama music, like a Filipino version of Celine Dion. Maybe it really gets to me cause I'm Filipino and my mother would always sing crappy karaoke that sounded exactly like that song in the movie...oh man makes me cringe just thinking about it.

I also hated the music in "Don't Go in the Woods Alone", besides it being laughably generic and ridiculously monotone, it was abused in the movie a lot, adding to its monotnous quality.

The music to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/killtomato/index.html) is intentionallly bad, but still fun.

Forgot how bad Skullduggery is until listening to it again.

A truly bad movie theme needs to somehow use the movie title in the lyrics and have absolutley no connection to the movie other than that...

The theme to Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, the theatrical movie was pretty embarrassing.  It was the same music they used for the TV series, except they added these incredibly cheesy lyrics sung by this incredibly cheesy vocalist.   Then butt-kicking Colonel Wilma Deering was trying to do some sort of sexy Bond Girl type thing at the same time.  Egads.

Oh god I remember that theme.. Its amazing in its cheese. I wish they'd release Buck Rogers in a boxset. That and the original Battlestar Galactica.

Just about anything that relies too heavily, or even exclusively on midis. For me, even the works of Georgio Moroder tend to get real old real quick. The War of the Robots stands out in particular as sounding like a four year old doing their own rendition of scales.

It is available on DVD as a box set.  I will be posting a review for the pilot episode, the movie (with the crazy opening credits scene), just prior to Christmas.  It seems like a fitting Christmas and New Years movie.  Not only do you have Buck, raised from his frozen sleep, saving the human race, but you also have the time-traveling aspect.  I like to post a time travel movie for the New Year.

The one Frank Stallone sings at the end of "Rambo - First Blood Part II". Just bought the extended OST and after all the tracks with Jerry Goldsmith in his prime you get THAT. What a downer.

Both are available in box sets.  Buck actually has surprisingly good video quality, though I was pretty disappointed in the video quality of the original Battlestar.  Most of it looks good, but the special effects shots actually look worse than when they show it on the Sci-Fi Channel.  Noticeably worse.  Nice extras with Battlestar though - a ton of behind the scenes stuff and a really high-quality book with all the episode descriptions and artwork.

Oh yeah that's a terrible one.  Isn't it called "Peace in my life" or something like that?

[Shudders in horror]

This has to be an acutal "theme" music, eh?  'Cause I can think of a lot of general film music that was pretty bad --
1)  Whatever was that sado-masochistic pervert song that the bad guys sing to each other in "Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang"?  That made my flesh crawl as a child -- why this is still considered wholesome family fare escapes me --
2)  Lon Chaney sings "Spider Baby"!!!
3)  The theme to "Spy Hard" by Weird Al Yankovick was supposed to be intentionally funny, but I still find it pretty much a head-shaker . . .

"Benson, Arizona" (the theme to "Dark Star" of course) --

a.   it's country,
b.   sound quality unbelievably tinny and blaring -- like a low-quality drive-in speaker that has been beaten with a Louisville slugger and then a gallon of wine poured into it,
c.   was sung by extras and cast IIRC,
d.   really bloody horribly written and sung.   Twangy, flat, and plodding, yet still shrieky.

That's my vote.  Oh yeah.   :hot:

The Sammy Hagar theme song, "Winner Takes it All", from Over the Top, actually the whole soundtrack album is prime evidence of what was wrong with the 80s.

Any theme or closing credits song sung by Jackie Chan for one of his films. I knew a guy who actually collected them since he really liked them, not as kitsch or guilty pleasure music even.

"Hooray for Santa(y) Claus" from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Neverending pain when played, it's way too long and seem even longer since it drags out every last misbegotten note.

The title song from the 1970s William Smith flick "Hollywood Man". Murky and rambling country-rock, makes the Eagles seem macho by comparison.

Not the theme song, but any of Gerrit Graham's singing in Cannonball, but that was bad on purpose.

I think anyone here who likes LEE VAN CLEEF or TELLY SAVALAS will appreciate:

Captain Apache (Lee Van Cleef sings theme song)

Pancho Villa (Telly Savalas sings the theme song at the end of the film)

All true...but i still like it.
It fitys the attitude of the movie. The less it fits, the more it jars the mind.
The theme for FIREBALL XL-5...a love song for a kids show?  It just don't seem RIGHT!

Surprisingly, "Move your dead bones" from "Beyond Re-animator" still has to make its appearence. It's a really crappy song, and doesn't even fit with the movie, but the video is hysterical and has become a regular staple at YouTube.

Oh, yeah!
Ben! . . . Ben!!. . . BENNNN!!
I remember seeing the original "Willard" at a drive-in in Virginia when it first came out -- GREAT horror movie, so I was thrilled when I heard there was going to be a sequel -- "BEN"!! --
Well, imagine my deep deep disappointment when that . . . that . . . THING with the little boy singing to and cuddling his pet rat came out.
I've always thoroughly disliked Michael Jackson and his music -- Though I will confess I DID like the "Thriller" video when it first came out -- and that nasal, whining lullaby, the "Ben" theme, really makes me ill -- and not in a good way, either!

There's a song in the crappy slasher GRADUATION DAY by a sucky group called "Felony".  Pure pain.  The music itself isn't really bad.  But the lead singer.. phew!

the worse one off the top of my head is the opening song from " 9 deaths of the ninja"

maybe it's because of the dancing girls with the ninja doin his ninja moves while the song is playing.
