Title: Movie probably from the early 90s
Post by: PHIL on December 07, 2006, 07:16:47 PM
I'm looking for a movie I saw on TV once.

There was a new invention (a device that they putted on their head and eyes) that allowed people to experiment virtual reality with 1st person view. I think it worked with a little disc that had a pre-programed show on it on something like that. One of them was a guy doing rollerblade with a girl in bikini and he brought her to a hotel room or something and cutted the strings of the girl's bikini with an x-acto to remove it. I think a remember some things that were happening on an underground market... but not sure.

Thanks again!

Strange Days - 1995

One of my favorites from the 90s.

I went to see this one in the theaters.  Not one of my favorites at all, but the idea was interesting.

Strange Days is a great film.  I even have the soundtrack which is a favourite of mine.

The whole concept is an intriguing one, even if the movie has dated fairly badly [what with it being set 7 odd years ago] and it suffers because of it, but it's still a favourite of mine regardless.

The idea of accessing someone's emotions as well as what they are experiencing is a concept I've been getting into lately, and the idea of a killer forcing you to watch and feel what he sees/feels as he quite brutally kills you is quite interesting plot point.  Eeyach!

A good film that actually looks at the darker side and the uses of virtual reality technology. Induces some squirms during some scenes, very effective even if the whole fingerpointing at the audience for being voyeurs theme has been done to death at this point.

Also glad the "conspiracy" turned out to be much smaller than it appeared, a nice change of story from most movies where members are literally everywhere.

Yep, Strange Days was a good one. I went to see it just because Testament briefly appears in it.  Oh, and Skunk Anansie did a great job for the soundtrack.

If you like that idea and you have access to the Showtime network watch "Dexter", series about a serial killer adopted and raised by a  police officier who realizes his son is not right early on and teaches him how to hide what he is and also to only kill those who deserve to die. Dexter uses his job as a forensic blood splatter expert to acquire the evidence to find his victims, the show is also narrated by him so it has a real strange vibe. Good program, worth a look.

I wish I still had Showtime.  I canceled it out of spite after they canceled Dead Like Me.  I've heard that Dexter is amazing.  Hopefully a DVD will be in the works for season 1.

Dead Like Me is on the Sci-Fi network, it's all reruns but their still good, only thing is they've been edited a little for TV, my wife and I were really disappointed that it got canceled just as it was getting interesting.
