This has long been one of my favorites it has all the classic elements in it! Robocops Peter Weller as the "I dont know why(or)i don't want to be in charge leader, Meg Foster as the greedy evil corporate schill, Daniel Stern as the beer swilling rebel, Ernie Hudson as the strong no nonsense one, Richard Crenna as the washed up doctor who now has a second shot at redemption, Amanda Pays and Lisa Eilbacher as the prerequisite eye candy, and the most craptastic monster i have ever seen!

This film imo is actually pretty good the only bad factor is the "monster" it seems they spent so much on set design and effects that they forgot to budget enough to make a decent monster, but monster aside there are many memorable elements in this film, Richard Crenna's entire performance, Peter Weller punching out Meg Foster, Ernie Hudsons touching "lets go get some popcorn" scene with Michael Carmine(who sadly passed away shortly after the films release), and many other little nuggets of B movie goodness! :thumbup:

I re-watched it not long ago, hoping to find it more enjoyable than in the 80s, but I still think the movie lacks something. However, it has many things to like, as you say. The acting is pretty good, and the climax in the surface has quite a lot of tension.

My favourite cheesy bit is when the doctor (Richard Crenna?) mentions the mutating agent that was found on the soviet sub was probably distributed with Vodka, to make sure as many as possible sailors took it. Did the writers really think vodka circulates freely on commie subs or it was just some humourous remark? And to add insult to injury, somebody replies it would have been mixed with coffee if it had been an American submarine.

One of my favorite movies.  I love the characters - in that little scene in the cafeteria there's more character development than in most entire movies.  I really felt as if those people had been working together for a very long time.  I agree about the monster, it was about the only bad thing about the movie.  As far as vodka, yes, Russians drink a lot of vodka.  I'm sure it circulates freely on Russian ships, whether or not the regulations say it does or not.  Reading books about the Russian military is one of my hobbies and they are full of humorous stories about vodka consumption.  In Chechnya one of the commanders couldn't figure out why his troops were hung over every morning, even though he'd gone through great pains to confiscate all the alcohol.  Turns out they'd drained all the antifreeze out of the vehicles and replaced it with vodka.  In WWII they actually issued vodka as part of the daily field rations, and an extra shot was given out prior to going into combat. 

Reality often holds aces like those, Jack. I believe you. Still, in the film that statement comes out of nowhere, and I've always wondered if it was some joke I wasn't getting or if it was for real.

I always seem to confuse this one with Deep Star Six.
It's been years since I've seen it. 
A friend of mine has Leviathan on VHS...I might just have to borrow it from him.

This ones a childhood favrovite of mine. I used to watch it all the time when regular TV used to show movies. If I every see it cheap on DVD I will pick it up.

I think I remember just one scene from long ago (as you guys told me it was this movie), the teeth coming out of a hand. I'm not sure, I think I remember it differently, as if the victim was more weirded out than insane.

I do too, and I have no idea why...  Leviathan is a MUCH better movie, and the plots and key events are actually much different.

I saw this one in the theater on opening day (did the same with Deep Star Six BTW). I thought Amanda Pays was gorgeous and loved watching her in The Flash TV series. I've always been a fan of a storyline that has a group of people trapped in some secluded area with a monster on the loose. This is one of those rollercoaster movies for me, in that when it came out I thought it was awesome. Then after seeing untold times on HBO I came to think it was rather crappy. Years later I love it again for it's cheesiness.

That's because both Leviathan & Deep Star Six came out the exact same year. 

both are decent B movies in their own rights.

Always had A "sneaking" admiration for this movie....I think it's called Amanda Pays. :smile:
