Title: Heathers
Post by: clockworkcanary on February 06, 2007, 08:36:33 AM
Heathers is one of my favorite High School movies ever, even overtaking other 80s gems such as The Breakfast Club (which is great but not as great IMO).  This flick has Christian Slater before he sucked and starred in movies such as Alone in the Dark and Hallow Man 2.

This movie has a lot of little hidden references but also has some of my favorite lines:

"What is your damage?"

"Bulimia is so '87, Heather"

"My son is homosexual and I love 'im...I love my dead gay son!"

"This is Ohio...if you don't have a brewsky in your hand you might as well be wearin' a dress"

"F#k me gently with a chainsaw; do I look like Mother Teresa?"

"Corn nuts!"

Edited for error

I just watched this a few weeks ago.
It's gotta be one of the best black comedies I've ever seen.

It's ironic about that, "Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast?" line.
The actress who spoke those words, Kim Walker aka Heather #1 (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0907947/), actually died of a brain tumor in 2001.

The chainsaw line is memorable, but one that has stuck with me over the years is

"Are you a Heather?"

There's something about the snide way Slater delivered that line that I found, and continue to fine, hilarious.  I mean, we've all know folks that want to fit in that badly - almost bad enough to change their name, right?

If Katie runs across this topic, I'm sure she will chime in.

"Heathers" has some very funny lines.  The one of "My son's a homosexual and I love him.  I love my dead gay son!" is my favorite.

I haven't seen it in a long time but in high school I used to passionately love this movie and knew it shot by shot. My adviser and I got to talking about it one day while killing time in his office and I gushed so long about the scenes of mayhem and murder and corn nuts that he said, "Um, it's not giving you any bad ideas about schoolmates you don't like, is it?"

LOL Nooo, I didn't want to kill anybody, Jeff, jeesh, it was a dark fantasy.

That adviser and I had a good relationship, though,  that involved us mutually keeping the secret that we were sleeping with the men we were living with.

a household line from heathers, usually directed at strangely enough..."what's your damage , heather???"

Wow, Return Of The Living Thread!  :teddyr: TBH I love seeing old threads experiencing Reanimation. And I feel it's more courteous to keep discussion of singular movies into one thread, than have it spread over multiple threads.

Heathers was big when I was in high school - Christian Slater was in all the teen magazines in those days. He also appeared in Young Guns II, Pump Up The Volume and Robin Hood. His character in Heathers was very cool.

Talk about thread necromancy!  ER, is the SEARCH function working for you?

I haven't seen HEATHERS in a long time.   It's special.

I haven't seen Heathers in years but it was a fave during my college years for sure.

I'm pretty sure my lingering crush on Shannen Doherty can be traced back to her appearance in this flick as one of the "Heathers."

now she's sadly gonna my guess be dead from cancer before the end of the year but i sure as hell hope not. i love love this movie i do have it on blu-ray but i want a version of it released like it was back in the day with the deleted scenes. i never got around to getting that version but for some reason the blu-ray doesn't have them go figure.

i think this is the film that might have introduced me to Winona Ryder and i still think she's a looker even at her age now and if you look at her in stranger things and than off it she looks younger off it actually. man i feel old cause i remember when she was in her teens! same with Christian Slater as well now he's gonna be 51 year old this year!

i beliieve, there's so many of his films i just love, gleaming the cube aka a brother's justice. heather's and a good number of others.  The Legend of Billie Jean is a favorite and old one from going back to (1985) as for Ryder i love the film Lucas and i wish they still made films like that today. anyways if i'm not mistaken wasn't that fat chick who's name i forget suppose to die at the end of the film cause JD actually did blow up the school in the Original ending or am i wrong on that?

it's really hard to believe it's been that long since  Winona Ryder was in her teens or even 20's and she's nearly 50 now!  USA today here on ohio used to have b-day's every sunday in it and i read it for years and i remember reading it when Winona Ryder turned 18 for example.
