Title: Woo hoo, bad weather.
Post by: raj on February 13, 2007, 04:50:02 PM
Due to the snow -- and really the winds which are making the stuff drift a lot, we got out of work early today - 2:30 pm.  And we don't have to go back until 11:30 am tomorrow.  Nothing to do but stay home and watch tv tonight.

Only thing that sucks is I have had to shovel the driveway 3 times already today.

Anyone else getting hit by the snowstorm?

We got hit last night here in Iowa.
The street crews here do an awesome job.  When I look out my window today, the streets are pretty much clear.
I don't mind driving in snow, I just hate driving in snow around other motorists.
As I was driving home from work last night when the storm was at its peak, there was a guy who kept drifting slightly into my lane, freaking me out and making me extremely angry.
Finally I had to slam on the horn to get his attention and when I got a good look at him, sure enough he's on a damn cell phone.   :hatred:
Driving erratically, in a snowstorm and on a cell phone.
Some people...I tell ya!

No snow here as all we are getting here is rain, lot and lots of rain it's just a hair to warm to snow about mid 30's. The weather claims it's going to clear out tonight or tomorrow, we'll see. So far it's rained for the most part of the last week or so, so while we don't have 10 feet of snow, we got about 10 inches of mud instead.

I was just watching the news and they were showing houses literally buried in snow. Their roofs had about 4 ft. of snow on them, this is scary. I hope you guys are okay over there.
And it's amazing what people do while driving. I've seen them reading something and talking on the phone at same time, while driving, once in a while they look up to see where their going.
We have some black clouds here and there but no rain yet.

A little snow today on the grass. It's trying real hard to snow here in South Jersey tonight, but nothing much happening. Just drove my wife to work in the rain and we had to drive rather slow because the tempature must be around 32 degrees and the roads are a little slick in spots. I haven't watched or heard the latest reports.

The rain has moved out here in far western KY, but the temp dropped like a rock and it is a blistering 19F with wind that will blow you away. There is enough moisture in the air (Humidity is 77%) that with the wind blowing it's like walking through razor blades. But from the looks of the weather in other parts of the country, it's not that bad here.

Fargin' A.  Still in a level 3 snow emergency here (meaning, do not go out or you'll get a ticket) until 2 pm.  Shucks, no work today  . Took about an hour & a half to dig out. :buggedout:

Around Audubon (and Blackwood, where I work), everything's frozen, especially the streets. Its windy, and ice is everywhere. Of course, we have work, which sucks. I decied to hitch a ride with a co-worker who lives nearby (and whose driving ability I trust more than my own).

I left home at 0445 this morning to go to Dover AFB to escort Cpl Parcell's casket to the funeral home.  I picked up her brother, also a Cpl, from their home and we drove through the storm.  Fortunately, parts of it were rain, but the roads were very bad early in the morning.  During the trip, we saw at least a dozen accidents, including a semi that had skidded off the road and flipped.  There was a lot of icing in northern DE and MD.  If that stuff does not melt off the trees and power lines before dark, there will be problems once we get the high winds that are coming later tonight.

I would say that some trees in northern DE had more than an inch of ice on them.

We live near the coast of South Jersey and it's usually a 5 degree difference due to the ocean water temperature. Between the coast and Philly we often get different weather in the winter. Rain here and snow/ice there.

Was the Cpl. someone you knew Andrew?

I did not know Cpl Parcell until after she was killed by a suicide bomber on 7 Feb 2007, while on duty in Iraq.  I accompanied the Lt. to inform her mother and father when we received the casualty message that afternoon.

Many of her friends and family have posted to her MySpace page:

Her family might have seen this, if not you might want to forward it to them if they haven't.

I know the family requested the presence of the riders I hope some was able to make even with the weather.
