Title: Three disc Ah-nuld Collection at Sam's Club
Post by: trekgeezer on February 18, 2007, 04:46:56 PM
Picked up a three disc set of the Austrian Oak's movies at Sam's yesterday. True Lies, Predator, and Commando all in widescreen.

Commando is not necessarily a good movie in the traditional sense, but is highly quotable so it meets my criteria.

True Lies is a great Cameron/Arnold collaboration and besides who can pass up Jamie Lee in a thong.

Predator is a pure testosterone induced fantasy and includes the greatest gun-porn sequence ever committed to celluloid.

It's been awhile since I've seen Predator.
What scene are you referring to?

This has to be referring to the minigun chewing up the forest.  Man, how I would love a minigun on a waist mount.  I would just need a squad to carry my ammo.

I was always a fan of Sonny's M-16/Remington 870 12 gauge combo myself. Odd weapon hybrids, customizations, and variants always interest me. I've seen pictures of real versions since, wonder how practical and dependable they really are?

Commando I loved as a kid, but now it's only good for laughs to me, or maybe digging the cuteness of Rae Dawn Chong.

True Lies is a half and half movie for me. I love parts of it, but loathe other parts. The humor has its moments (especially the over the top gags, wonder how much is unintended, if you took everything at face value) , but the Bill Paxton fake spy subplot feels like padding (plus isn't it "borrowed" from a French farce) and the action is well staged, yet the sum of the parts don't add up for me.

I used to love Predator, great fun to watch/time waster of an action film. But repeat TV viewings led to overkill for me.

I am referring to the forest chewing scene. I saw one of the E! True Hollywood stories about the movie once and John McTierman  said the studio was pressing him to show more gun play, so he came up with that scene on the fly and decided to go way over the top with it. He said it felt like doing pornography.

Yea I loved the way the minigun (which shoots about 4000rounds a minute) was going full blast for five minutes.

Ah, True Lies.  I adore that movie...and not just because of Jamie Lee Curtis doing a striptease, either.  (Okay, with the possible exception of the last scene with the horse.)  Though Tom Arnold actually did run away with about a third of the film...

I never knew that about that scene in Predator. I felt it was over the top by now I know why.

I loved True Lies and Commando as a kid. Still do.

They REALLY need to get off of their duffs and release great special edition DVD's of both True Lies and Commando at some point before we die.

I've got the 2 disc widescreen SE of Predator, is that the one in the 3 pack? If so, you got quite a deal.

Not to mention the battery pack, which is like 100 pounds or something ridiculous.
