Post by: JPickettIII on March 01, 2007, 11:31:10 AM
I was just curious how our significant others feel about our affliction.

I am the significant other in this house, and I watch some of the movies. The hubby is the Bad Movie watcher. I'm the, more or less, student of Bad Movies and I'm having fun doing it.

Katie watches about half of the films that I do, but lately she has been giving up and leaving before they are over.  I attribute that to the movies.  Been trying to work through the "Blood Island" series and they are really slow going after the first.

My wife watches most of the bad movies I get; sometimes she falls asleep, though (those durn work hours catch up to her).

We watched some wonderfully bad, bad movies on our first two dates.  Our relationship was built on a firm foundation!   :bouncegiggle:

My wife will watch some of them with me.  Other times she feels they are a waste of time.  I will give her credit though, she watched "Plan 9 From Outer Space" with me.

My wife doesn't care for "my" movies; I have a portable DVD player that I watch bad movies on so as not to disturb her or our daughter. We have basically three DVD collections: My (bad) Movies, Our Movies, and My Daughter's Movies. Neither my wife nor my daughter (a teenager) have ever understood why I enjoy the messed up movies I watch. *Sigh* 'Tis a lonely life I lead sometimes. . .

I once thought about bringing this topic up.  Well, so far, I'm the only one who has voted the last option ...I get a hard time about it.   It is interesting to hear about other situations.

My girlfriend just doesn't understand...at all.  We do like some of the same "good" movies but I can't get her to watch any of my b-flicks as she just doesn't see the point.  I often get a hard time if I'm spending too much time watching and writing about bad movies, but mostly it's in jest.

One time we caught something on TV that was pretty bad and we ribbed it all the way through, having a good time, so there's hope that I may bring her to the dark side yet.

My wife not only watches them with me, but frequently is the instigator -- running up to me in the video store with a particularly hideous cover:  "Look!  Martian Were-Spiders vs. The Flying Pirahnahs!!  Let's get this instead!!" -- We're both Ed Wood fans & she'll dutifully pick through the 50-cent VHS remainder bins, looking for that Bert I. Gordon treasure --
She has her limits & preferences, though -- she won't go at all for soft-porn parody films, and an overabundance of gore puts her off -- as it does me, come to think of it -- No, we like our B's stupid and full of "visible nylon strings attached to the jaw of a giant spider" -- some tittage is okay, but not a lot of moaning and grinding.  She liked almost all of "Shaun of The Dead", and really loved "Dog Soldiers", but some of the Italian zombie things she's walked out of.
We have our tiffs, like other couples, but after 20 years of marriage, we share quite a quality bad-film life!

I used to subject my significant other to whatever I was watching. But once when we left the theatre after a 'regular' movie (yes I watch those too), she remarked 'strange, nobody got eaten in this one'. So I took the hint and eased off a bit.

Mine will watch as long ast here is absoloutly no blood, guts, gore, zombies, monsters, killing, evil spirits, or Bruce Campbell. If I had a nickle every time she watched "The Cutting Edge" (A figure skating movie, I feel they squandered a potentially great title) or "You've got Mail",, , I'd be a very rich person. She especially hates it when myself or our son changes the background on his computer to the picture of one alien eating teh brain of another from "Bad Taste" (Got that picture from this very site).

Generally, my girlfriends up till this date, have had more or less no interest in good/bad movies, my music, my drawing, or anything that i truly cared about.

It's a mystery to me, how i actually managed to be with them, since not particularly pretty, or ugly enough for it to be an insteresting thing.

It's encouraging to see, that there actually exists nice ladies out there, with interesting tastes. There is hope!

My wonderful wife does not mind my habits, but does not wish to be included.   Its just not her cup of tea.  It also makes movie nights a bit dfficult.

The part about no blood, guts, gore, zombies, monsters, killing, evil spirits I can understand, but no Bruce Campbell, that is down right Un-American.  I think that you should punish her with "Yellow Beard" and or "Plan 9 From Outer Space"!  Just kidding, my wife goes,"oh" when I talk about the Evil Dead Movies and will not watch them either.  I did however get to watch "House of a 1000 Corpses".  That was a miracle.

The very first day my wife and I met we ended up going to the theater and seeing "They," so our relationship was kind of founded on bad movies. She will watch just about anything with me, but there are times when she shys away from the gorier stuff. And zombie flicks. For some reason, zombie movies drive her crazy.

My girlfriend will watch if they are Chinese movies.  Otherwise, usually not, but sometimes she relents.  I did manage to get her to warch  The Night of a 1000 Cats and The Karate Dog, so there is hope!

If and when I ever get married (geez, don't I sound like the stereotypical nerd) I should hope to find someone who likes (not just tolerates) my style of movies. Otherwise it probably won't work!

Significant Other? What's that? :bouncegiggle: And seriously if one can find women who like B-Movies and pro wrestling, well I'd like to meet one? I certainly have yet to find one...

It depends on the movie.  I usually have good success getting her to watch any ghost stories, mysteries, or 70s TV movies no matter the quality.  Godzilla movies are sometimes okay.  Dino movies, Tarzan and adventure are usually fine.  Anything with gore is usually out.

Watched one of my Something Weird exploitation DVDs the other night.  The movie was "The Toy Box" about a dead uncle who pays people to perform kinky sexual acts for him (long story).  Right about the time that Katie gagged because some girl was licking another girl's stomach and leaving saliva all over it I knew that she was not enjoying the film.

Honestly, I was not enjoying the film either.  There is only so much 70's butt that I can see before my mind begins asking rhetorical questions.  I have seen porn films with better plots.

I still want to know where I can find a woman who loves loads of B-Movies, pro wrestling, Kung Fu films, Film Noir, Classic Mystery, sci-fi, fantasy and horror genre TV and movies  and basically anything that might have played at a Drive-In (I'm real soft on those 60s Beach Party movies and those Tammy romance stories too) because...

surely no other woman would ever put up with me.  At least I don't think so.

My wife either sleeps through them or I watch them on the computer when she is watching something else. She usually watches the science fiction shows and movies with me.

After all this time together my wife will usually watch what I'm watching, but occasionally we have conversations like this
"What is this?"

" It's the sci-fi channel movie, Curse of the Komodo."

"Looks like they filmed it at the Arboretum in Arcadia, looks ridiculous, pretty awful movie."

"We can change it to something else, this is really bad."

"No let's watch, besides I'm interested now."

On the other hand she knows me well enough that she watches American Idol in the den.

After reading these post, I must laugh.  Yes, I like the movie "The Cutting Edge" and yes, I watch "American Idol".  I think everyone needs some form of mindless entertainment.  I do watch a lot of bad movies, but in our house we have Andrew's movies, my movies, and the kids movies.  If you are looking for a good mix (like for a date night), try any of the MST3000 episodes.  I find them much more enjoyable then if I had just watch some of those movies without the comments.

I feel honored to say that my girlfriend enjoys a good chunk of the b-flicks I inflict on her and doesn't squirm when there's a ton of gore. (Though she has the annoying habit of trying to block my vision when breastasists are on the screen.  ) The really cool thing is that whenever a new horror flick is coming out, she's usually the first one to say "Hey this looks cool, let's go see that!" She and I are very much looking forward to seeing "Grindhouse" in April too!  :teddyr:

As for films that she has sat through with me: "Night of the Creeps," "The Devil's Rejects," "Halloween," "Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV," "Evil Dead 2," "Zombi," "The Beyond," "Suspiria," "Blood Feast" (she actually fell asleep during that one, but can you really blame here?  :bouncegiggle: ), and the list goes on! I think I gots myself a keeper!  :teddyr: Now if I can only get her to sit through a few Godzilla flicks.....

My wife works at night from 7pm to 7am and I watch most of my films between the hours of 8pm-12am when she's not home. Watching guy films like action/horror/sci-fi/westerns or anything weird, strange, and bizarre.

My wife doesn't watch B-Movies, so I watch them at night.  She has watched a few, but not many. I remember her watching FOOD OF THE GODS, CHILLER, and more recently THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH with me or we'll go to the movie theater together to watch the latest big release.

Back when we first were married she would come home from work at midnight on Saturday nights and we would watch SATURDAY NIGHT DEAD with Horror Host Stella on a local Philadelphia channel. Now she is strickly a big time TCM (Turner Classic Movies) movie fan and really only watches those b/w films from that channel. When ever I catch her watching TV she is usually watching TCM, Fox News, History Channel, or maybe Food Network.

She has probably seen as many classics as me, but when it comes to B-Movies she's mostly not interested. Once in a while she'll ask me if I picked up anything interesting lately that she might like and I'll look on the shelve and put one in one of my cheapie DVD's.

Yes, I did say one of our favorite lines, because I like "The Cutting Edge" too.

My wife likes THE CUTTING EDGE, too, and I watch it with her from time to time.  It's okay - not horrible to sit through (unlike MANY chick-flicks...luckily, my wife does not like many of them, either).

Well, I don't have a girlfriend anymore (as of last week), but my last one hated most b-movies.  I mean, she was just furiously bashing them over the phone.  I actually had to tell her to lighten up because she was getting so hysterical.

My wife also likes watching shows like DANCING WITH THE STARS, NFL FOOTBALL, GOLF, TENNIS, and use to watch a couple sitcoms like RAMON, KING OF QUEENS, and maybe FRIENDS. She might also watch AMERICAN IDOL once in a while.
