Title: Catwoman (2004)
Post by: Scott on March 13, 2007, 02:09:09 PM
CATWOMAN (2004) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0327554/) - AMC premiered this Saturday night and I watched it all the way through. Advertising graphic artist Hally Berry learns to much and is kill, but only to be brought back to life by a bunch of cats. Hally Berry's character over hears the boss talking about the adverse effects of their skin cream product with the lab specialist, so they kill her off. After the cats do something to her which isn't quite clear she suddenly has an appetite for fish and walks around on her furniture like a cat.  The Neighbors have loud parties and she goes into cat mode and convinces them to stop the loud noise. Catwoman also seem to like to go shopping after closing hours which brings her to the attention of a police detective who she beats at basketball with  all the city kids overjoyed. The detective starts to see the similarities between his new girlfriend and the Catwoman. All comes out well in the end as a power struggle ends badly within the cosmetics companies executives. The final encounter with Sharon Stones character is lame like the rest of the film. Hally Berry's poor cat fighting skills derive from the Brazilian Martial Art form called Capoeira according to the inside look into the film that AMC gave us.

(3 out of 10 Stars)The cat suit did better than the film. Guess it was made for urban city kids and a little extra added, so their might have reason to attend.

You need to add a "huh? what? -- never saw it, quickly forgot about it, but please post more pictures of Halle Berry in that suit" category.

I found myself laughing at the sheer camp dialogue of the film all the way through. I honestly don't think Berry does much with the "action hero" role.

On a similar topic, has anyone noticed that AMC doesn't seem to even be trying to play American movie classics anymore? Don't they know what a piece of box-office dropping this was?

Catwoman was written by someone who had seen Pumaman, as there are a few similarities.  The director, Pitof, only goes by one name, which is one name too many.  He is a fan of sweeping cityscape shots, and by the end of the film I was sick of them.  The film works much better if you are ignorant of Batman, but few are so the film just sucks even harder.  My review is here (http://tarstarkas.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=64&Itemid=46), but my site is hitting slowdowns so hopefully it responds.

Even though Halle looks good in the cat suit this movie is really bad so no, I do not like it.
Raj, as you requested, here's Halle as Catwoman

While Halle Berry in a skimpy outfit is a good thing in my book, that costume did nothing for me and IMO failed to bring out her beauty.

As for the movie, I caught ten minutes on HBO once.

I thought the exact same thing the other day.

This movie was made by people with ADD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attention-Deficit_Disorder) for people with ADD.
There are shots in this film that don't even last a half a second.

I heard that Halle Berry accepted her Razzie award in person and said that something to the effect that she would like to forget this "piece of sh*t movie".

We had a free HBO preview a year or so ago and I recorded this movie.  Never got around to watching it.  Was saving it for a rainy day but it just hasn't been rainy enough  :teddyr:

Just kidding.

I will stick with the lady in leather in the Batman movie.  She was far more seductive and bad a$$.

Halle Berry is HOT  :hot:, especially in Swordfish.

The movie stunk like a cat box.

I started to like her a bit more because of that.  Shows she's willing to laugh at herself.

What a crappy movie!  :hatred:

Sure Halle looked great on that costume, but she would also look good in a sack and I can't see her doing a movie abnout it. The script was crap, but I would have enjoyed the whole thing anyway if it wasn't for the headache-inducing camera work. Heard the director signs his movies as "Pitof". I would keep my real name out of them as well, dude.

Catwoman had been in development hell ever since Batman Returns came out. Usually when a movie gestates that long, it doesn't end up being any good.

Oooooooooooooh, jeebus, Catwoman. It had potential to at least be a fun popcorn flick in my book, but even with Halle Barry in a skimpy leather outfit it sucked. Halle, your above this. What the hell were you doing? Come on, you've got it all, looks, talent, so why did you waste both on this steaming pile of rancid kitty litter?

I havent seen this, nor do I want to. Why the hell does she need that stupid suit? What i really liked about BATMAN BEGINS is that they really granted function to the batsuit, making every detail to the outfit nessesary to Batman's crime fighting.

What REALLY gets me about the Catwoman suit is those EARS. Whats with the ears?! Serioulsy! Why those EARS??! Maybe i should watch it anyway just to have a more educated veiw on it.

What's really funny about this movie is that Halle Berry's stunt double was actually a man.

Just wanted to point out, the angle with the skin cream having negative side effects really, really reminds me of the face cream product "Renuyu" that turned Matt Hagen into Clayface in the Batman animated series.

That show was gold. I don't wanna sound sexist or anything but one reason I refused to see Catwoman was because the villain is a woman in charge of a cosmetics company (or so I've been told). I can think of few villains that are more cliched. The cartoon, in Clayface's origin story, avoided this pitfall by having the cosmetics company president be a man, and a big bruiser of a man at that.

she may look sexy in her outfit, but the story doesn't follow in the character characteristics: her name should be Selina Kyle, should live in Gotham City, and should not be a hair product designer! :teddyr:

Nice.

Yeah, it's pretty terrible.  Some TRULY awful editing, bad fight scenes, a ludicrous origin story...  It just all stinks.  And the Catwoman costume is probably the worst superhero costume I've ever seen.  It's just so bad it boggles the mind.  That it's revealing is redundant - all superhero and superheroine costumes are.  The design is still terrible.

I have to bring this topic back because I heard the dumbest and I mean dumbest excuse to say that Halle Berry was good in the movie.  She was sexy and that was good enough to justify that she was good and the movie was also fine because of that.  Oh yeah, and the costume was great.  Now the person who told me this was my own mom.  I'm going to explode!

I even explained to her why it was bad performance and why the film and Halle Berry was bad, but nope.  Refuses to listen and say the movie is good and that I'm wrong.  I know everyone has their own opinion, but I felt I just got trolled in my home!

I put "haven't seen it yet" only because there wasn't an option without the "yet" part.

Well.....it was a very strange film. I did enjoy seeing Ms. Berry in the Catwoman outfit. It made little sense and is easily one of the worst adapations of a comic book character ever.

I want to see it, but I don't know why, I geuss I just hate my brain. With this and my recent Steven Seagal marathons. I am just asking for it. My head hurts.

The movie was nothing but a huge hair ball!!  When Matt Lauer of The Today Show told her that the costume showed off her body or that it looked sexy or words to that effect,Halle said she didn't see it or didn't know what he was talking about.Hell,I can't remember it word for word, but it was close to it..

What's really funny about this movie is that Halle Berry's stunt double was actually a man.

That's not unknown in Hollywood. Chloe Moretz's stunt double in "Kick Ass" (2010) was an young man named Greg Townley. He can also be seen as Number 3 in this year's "I Am Number Four," where he performs his own stunts.

And you can go back to "Mary Poppins" (1964), in the scene when the female nannies in the street are picked up by the wind and blown away, one can see most of the female nannies are actually stuntmen in women's clothes.

this movie might be worth watching with beer and friends. Stone gives such a hammy performance it's kind of enjoyable.

Also Stone is now old enough and haggard enough to play Lindsay Lohan in a Biopic. Get on it Hollywood.
