Title: The Prestige (2006)
Post by: Scott on March 20, 2007, 08:56:54 PM
THE PRESTIGE (2006) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0482571/) - This is a good film, but not a great film. There's so much going on and the characters don't stand out which makes it hard to keep a handle on it. Not to mention their voices often go low and they speak with accents that make your ears squint. The whole Tesla (played by David Bowie) was interesting. Perhaps more interesting than the movie. The awe and wonder of the final stage act was neat I suppose, but not better than THE ILLUSIONIST (2006) with the spirit world trick as opposed to the science angle of THE PRESTIGE (2006).

(6 out of 10 Stars) It was ok, but I won't watch it again.

Well I liked it ...

I admit it is a little hard to follow at times (I think I told you that ..), but I caught more of it on the second view. For me it was a tough call between those 2 but yeah The Illusionist probably was a little better IMHO.

Haven't seen the Illusionist, but The Prestige is a damned good movie. It's not hard to follow, but Christopher Nolan knows how to tell a good non-linear story.

I loved the Prestige, and did not find it at all hard to follow.  I've not seen the illusionist, and I don't intend to...mainly because it's popular, and I seem to have issues with anything that's popular, because what the masses tend to like, I tend to see as crap.  :teddyr:

Michael Caine, Hugh jackman, and Christian Bale are all marvelous.  The biggest surprise, however, was finding out that Tesla was played by David Bowie, who I didn't even recognize in this film.

I went into this film expecting a period drama. The total left turn into scifi territory at the two-thirds mark really threw me for a loop. Still, I liked it. The wife wants to buy it, but I think that has more to do with her infatuation with Hugh Jackman than anything else. :teddyr:

One of the best endings i have seen recently. A Huge twist and hard to keep up with. I didnt even realize that was David Bowie.

It's one of those rare movies that comes along and makes you have to think a little bit, which is probably why some don't like it. Thought it seems is a rare commodity these days.
