This HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE "documentary" focuses on Ivan Marx, a tracker who spent a lot of time searching for Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest.  Marx narrates the film and sounds much like Jean Shepherd in A CHRISTMAS STORY.

He "proves" the existence of Bigfoot by showing us large footprints in snow and mud and ultimately showing "actual footage" of Bigfoot in several locations.  The actual footage looks an awful lot like a man in a hairy costume.

Marx goes on to tell us that scientists doubted the authenticity of his evidence (gee, I wonder why).

I remember during the 1970s when still photographs taken from Marx's film footage showed up in books and magazine articles about Bigfoot.  There was a lot of controversy surrounding whether his pictures were real.  I seem to remember that someone eventually presented evidence that the whole thing was a hoax by demonstrating that the Bigfoot in Marx's film was less than 6 feet tall and couldn't have weighed more than 200 pounds.  This contradicted Marx's claims that the creature was 8 feet tall and weighed several hundred pounds.

Anyway, the 1970s ended (and so did most ofl the hubub about Bigfoot, UFOs, the Loch Ness Monster, and the Bermuda Triangle - - all frequent topics for books, television specials, magazine articles, etc., during the glorious 70s).

If you MUST see this movie, it is included in the DRIVE-IN MOVIE CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK.  (I believe it is also in at least one of Mill Creek's other 50 movie packs).

 I wonder if Ivan Marx is actually  Ivan Sanderson,an author who wrote many Big Foot and Cryptozoolgy books in the 60's and 70's? Hmm. :question:

Seeing this and The Legend of Boggy Creek at the local theater convinced me that bigfoot did indeed lurk in the half acre of woods behind our house and was bound to pull me screaming through my bedroom window some dark night.

Marx was not only obsessed with photographing bigfoot in his natural habitit but proving to all the naysayers bigfoot migrated! My most vivid memory, other than the skinny guy in the furry suit popping up every once in a while, was a weird sequence at the end "on the tundras of Canada" (or something) where a whole herd of bigfoots (bigfeet?) revealed themselves by aiming their glowings eyes at the camera. Even as a kid it looked to me a lot like someone flashing their headlights, but what did I know?  Good call on the Jean Shepherd-ish narration.

I think if he hadn't been annoyed by so many crappy bigfoot movies (see also Bigfoot, Night of the Demon, The Geek, Shriek of the Mutilated, etc.) bigfoot would have revealed himself officially to the scientific world and/or the Weekly World News long ago.

I was a small kid in the 70's and Bigfoot scared the crap outta me, so of course I had to watch anything and everything that featured the creature (for the record, spiders and sharks top my list of things that induce instant heart failure, but I actively seek out films with those, too). Back then it seemed like every other week there was some documentary or TV special examining Bigfoot and I think I saw them all. Not long back I tried watching this one again and ended up asleep by the 20 minute mark.

I found it fascinating.  The Bigfoot stuff was all obviously fake, but how about that scene when the squirrel got hit by the car?  Wow... That was amazing.  And what of the suicidal goats?

When I popped this in, I was thinking it was the Bill Rebane Bigfoot movie.  When I found out it was a bizzare doc, I was pretty happy.  Though it did seem really long, despite being just over an hour.

Watched this on my 50 Movie Pack also and enjoyed it. THE LEGEND OF BIGFOOT is definately one to watch. Yes, it's a bit wacky, but you have to love it.

LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK will always be one of my favorites.

I'm pretty sure I saw this when I was a kid but I never really believed in the whole Bigfoot/Sasquatch phenomenon. 

The only creature that really fascinated me was the Loch Ness Monster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loch_ness_monster) and the expeditions by scientists to try and find it.
Sometimes I'll have a quick look at the Loch Ness webcam (http://www.lochness.co.uk/livecam/) if I'm bored.

The idea of a plesiosaurus living at the bottom of Loch Ness was always more interesting to me than Bigfoot.

This and other "documentaries" like it used to be a Sunday late morning/early afternoon staple on the CBS station when I was little. After the church shows but before NFL football.  They were actually creepier to me that the horror movies since I wanted to believe they were real. Yet reruns of In Search Of... didn't air around here, didn't see those until college.

Even caught this one on TNT late at night at one point. By then I was enough of a sceptic to not be able to get into it much. Maybe I should give it another try.

There is no Bigfoot/Sasquatch lurking out there. IF there were Ted Nugent would have bagged one by now, and would wear the skin onstage on a nightly basis. Probably get a hat, a pair of boots, and some kind of pelt Speedo out of the sucker.

I like to think that there could be creatures/animals that are unknown to us still out there in the world. When it comes to things like Bigfoot, Nessie etc. I believe that too many people have reported seeing these things for it to be a hoax, so I think there's something there, however eyewitness testimony is somewhat unreliable as people tend to see what they want or expect to see. For me the most believable witnesses are the ones who just describe what they saw, don't embellish it with references to Sasquatch, or sea monsters and so on, and then say that they don't think it was a bear or a seal or some such and tell you why they think that. While there is no definitive evidence to support the existence of these things, there is no real proof that they (what ever they are) don't exist.
 Another documentary on the subject of Sasquatch, Yeti type creatures is Man Beast, Myth or Monster, by Landsburg Productions, it's done like a movie version of In Search of, has re-enactments of incidents that occurred in the Pacific Northwest and was filmed in the Hood River valley of Oregon. The creature make up was done by Rob Bottin.

Bigfoot is one of those questions like "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop?"

The world my never know.

By the way, if you're watching this as part of the Drive-In Classics movie pack be sure to catch PRIME TIME (1977), which is on the same disc. It's a jaw-droppingly un-PC (but hilarious!) satire of 70's TV. The mock TV segments are well-produced and full of familiar 70's faces, but the wrap-around story involving the President of the United States in a DR. STRANGELOVE ripoff features some of the worst produced scenes I've ever seen. In many shots they don't even try to hide the studio lights and microphones.

Raffine - PRIME TIME was one of the first movies I watched in the DRIVE-IN CLASSICS set.  I worked in a video rental store back in the 1980s and we had a VHS copy of it.  I thought it had some funny, low-brow moments and I was glad to see it in Mill Creek's 50 movie DVD pack.
