Title: Battle of the Animated Sitcoms
Post by: Fausto on March 28, 2007, 12:46:43 PM
My favorite animated show would have to be Family Guy. There was a time that I would have said The Simpsons, but the more recent episoes are lacking in quality. My second favorite would be Futurama, which has gotten renewed and will finally be showing new episodes in the (eventual) future. The third is the Critic. What are your top picks, and why?

Simpsons (though it's been in a lull the last few years)
South Park (always great when they tweak a current event)
Futurama (when are they bringing it back)
I also watch Drawn Together, but it's been kinda hit & miss for when it's on.

I can't stand Family Guy.  I'm with Eric Cartman on this.

I picked The Simpsons, Futurama and King of the Hill.  I like subtle humor, and each of these has their share of that (KOTH has some really subtle stuff).  I liked Family Guy when it first came on, but it seems to now follow the "shock humor" formula more than anything else, and that wears on me pretty quickly.

"Which of these do you watch most often" is not the best way to word the poll. After all, I've seen all the Futurama eps ad nauseum and it's still one of my favorites.

And other than that I picked King of the Hill, even if later shows have been severely lacking. (as with Family Guy, but Family guy is even moreso) The Simpsons is too bland, most of the jokes totally fail. South Park is too damn vulgar to make up for the fact that it satires just about everything rather well.

Drawn Together is like South Park in it's rudeness and crudeness, but unlike South Park, seems to make no good attempts to be funny at all. Never seen Boondocks because it seems just another vulgar show, (and the strip doesn't appeal to me) and American Dad is just "Meh.", despite being a bit better than current Family Guy. So, I have only made my two choices.

One more thing, you left out more obscure choices like Mission Hill and Baby Blues, I'm sure there are others too, but those deserve to be on there.

FUTURAMA by a mile. While I do like THE SIMPSONS quite a bit too, I find my overall enjoyment varies more. Sometimes I enjoy certain shows less than others.  I have to mention two personal faves, both Canadian animated series: UNDERGRADS and 6TEEN.  Both are IMO awesome fun shows, even if they are aimed at a youthful audience.

I like Family guy, but some of the episodes I just can't get into that much.

The Simpsons are an all-time classic.  Yeah, this past season has been dull, but maybe the movie will make up for that a little.  maybe after the movie they're gonna consider ending the show for good, and create a final season to remember.

Futurama.  Great, imaginative show.  Probably the most original series in the bunch.

King of The Hill...I liked the earlier episodes, but now I just see it as a bland, timid entry among the other shows, and the only reason it's still on is to appeal to people who see it as "safe" or "clean" compared to the other shows.

South Park.  I love it.  Even more so than I did years ago.  It's become so much more than the obnoxious fad it was in the late 90's, merely a tool of Spencer gifts to sell T-shirts and other merchandise.  Now it's a force, lampooning everything right and left, but always mindful to never lose its ability to entertain.  Sure, it's vulgar, but it's also funny as hell.

Drawn Together...Just Vulgar...unlike South Park, they're just being outrageous for the sake of being outrageous.  I don't see it lasting another full season.

Futurama, The Simpsons and Family Guy for me.

I watched all of these but South Park, American Dad and Family Guy for me. Futurama was great should have replaced the Simpsons as had the same humor of early Simpsons and Simpsons have been lacking. King of Hill is been sliding but I enjoyed the older episdoes. South Park I still love.

But nothing beats Aqua Teen Hunger Force.  :teddyr:

Actually, if I had thought to add it at the beginning, I would have chosen the Critic over drawn together. Too late now.

Its not giving me that option, for some reason. This is my first time doing a poll, so hopefully I'll get it right the next time. :hatred:

I would say family guy, but it copies off of simpsons so much i decided not to. Dont get me wrong. Family Guy is histerical......when its original. A good example of this would be when Brian ran out onto a dog track and screwed one of the racing dogs and got her pregnant. SAME EXACT THING happened on The Simpsons with Santa's Little Helper.

Also, VENTURE BROS. and HOME MOVIES should be added to this.

I went ahead and clicked "Edit Poll" and checked the box for "Users may change their vote."  Is the "Edit Poll" option not available for you?

Title: Re: Battle of the Animated Sitcoms

Thanks, Andrew, its fixed. I have edit poll, but these are all the options that come up:

Poll Options:  Show the poll's results to anyone.
Only show the results after someone has voted.
Only show the results after the poll has expired.

Reset Vote Count:  Check this if you want to reset all vote counts to 0.

There's nothing about letting someone change their vote.

I do not see the option to add it for you.  Most likely, those settings must be specified when the poll is created and certain admin rights are not available to keep users from playing with the results.  For example:  I can see and edit all the vote totals and everything as the Admin, which is something you would probably not want to be an option for many people.

I voted for King of the Hill, Family Guy and South Park.

I agree that South Park has gotten funnier as the years have gone by and I never get tired of King of the Hill...even the re-runs.
Never used to care for The Family Guy but some of the more recent episodes have been pretty funny.

One thing that boggles my mind is Futurama.
I have always despised that show since the day it first aired and never understood why people liked it.
If nothing good is on TV and Futurama is showing, I'll turn the TV off and read a book.
Big thumbs down.

For me, only South Park and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are consistantly funny or, if not funny, at least absurd enough to keep both series fresh. Family Guy, the Simpsons, and some of the other series mentioned here rely too much on stock characterizations to remain interesting. Robot Chicken has its moments, too, I guess.

I went with The Simpsons, Futurama, and King of the Hill, we occasionally watch South Park, sometimes they're very funny, other times they're not, it's kind of hit or miss for us.

Family Guy.  Two reasons: Peter and Stewie.

The Boondocks.  I don't know why I like the show.  It has a little bit of realism with its satire.  And Reilly is funny.

Most of these shows I do watch.  Like those mentioned and other like Futurama and Robot Chicken are funny.  But others, especially those non-anime shows on adult swim, I just don't undersand them at all.

Although Family Guy can be very funny, Stewie is extremely over rated. And I dont see whats so funny about Boondocks. It doesnt even seem to atempt to be funny sometimes.

For me its Simpson's, family guy and futurerama.
The only thing annoying about family guy is the show's tendency too use flashbacks way too often.

Family Guy - the "manatee" jokes are what make the show for me. New episodes seem to jump around from hilarious to mediocre, but even at their worst they're funnier than anything the Simpsons has crapped out over the last five or six years.

Mission Hill - damn I miss this show.

Venture Bros. - if you're a fanboy (yes, yes, or "fangirl"), there are few funnier shows on the air. It plays all out to the geek crowd and I'm grinding my teeth waiting for season 3.

Futurama and Venture Brothers!  I asked for Season 1 of Venture Bros. for Mother's Day, that show slays me!

I watch Family Guy, but it is just going for shock value these days instead of real humor.  Some of the musical numbers make me switch the channel as soon as they start.  American Dad has grown on me, the drunk alien is always good for a laugh.

I never got into South Park, not sure why, but Trey Parker's Orgasmo is one of my favorite bad movies.

My daughter says you forgot METALOCLYPSE, ROBOT CHICKEN, AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCESPACE GHOST, and INVADER ZIM.

She says that these 5 are the best. In order:

1) Venture Bros.
1) Metalyoclypse
2) South Park
3) Family Guy
4) Futurerama

I voted for SOUTHPARK since its the one I've seen the most of.  For you older guys and girls could you even image cartoons like these when we were kids?  I grew up watching Looney Tunes and Hanna Barbara shows.

Invader Zim isnt realy a sitcom. But its still the funniest damn thing ive ever seen on nickelodion.

Metalokolypse can go screw. Sucky show.

Maybe 10 years ago, I might have put The Simpsons in my top 3, but the show hasn't been good in ages.

I know, what the Hell's up with that? I don't think I've laughed at the show since Hank Scorpio and season 8. It makes you wonder how bad the movie will be. If I see it, it'll be on somebody else's dime... not that I know of any theaters in New York that don't cost at least $10 to see... stupid "cultural mecca" trying to steal all my money...  :hatred:

King of the Hill. The Critic. Venture Brothers. im happy to see that King of the Hill was brought back. i still try to catch reruns of The Critic on comedy central when i can. though it gets too crude for me sometimes i also like Venture Brothers because of all the comic book references. i remember the old days of marvel comics and it looks like the shows creators do too.

South Park, by far. When it's on, it hits the satire pretty well. Plus, they take six days to do one episode, so if, for example, Obama does something on Wednesday, it's in the following episode a week later.

Beyond that, I prefer Simpsons and Family Guy, although that's been cancelled.

I don't like the McFarlane shows (Family Guy, American Dad, or the upcoming Flintstones.)

Actually, I haven't seen DUCKMAN in years, but I liked it. I can tolerate THE SIMPSONS, but I find FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD grotesque and useless, the cartoon equivalent of a ten year-old looking up dirty words in the dictionary. KING OF THE HILL I've always found funny, moreso since moving to Texas; there's a couple named Gribble in our Sunday School class.

The rest I'm not familiar with. I watched SOUTH PARK once- they're very much like FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD.

Ya know, funny you mention Scorpio. He was originaly suposed to be the protagonist of the movie. But the writters thought it would be better to introduce a new (less funny) charecter instead.

I'm really surprised how well Futurama is doing. I'm a Simpsons fan but for some strange reason I just can't get into Futurama. Someone explain it's appeal. The best IMO is South Park. It is the greatest vehicle for social satire ever created for TV.
