Title: Chainsaw duels
Post by: AnubisVonMojo on April 09, 2007, 10:20:42 PM
Want to do a spotlight on chainsaw duels for my website and was wondering if anybody could help me out with any movies I could add to the list that feature some of these. So far I have Phantasm II, Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2, and Motel Hell.

Can anyone think of any to add? Thanks!

How about when Ah-nold defends himself against a motorcycle riding chainsaw wielding Buzzsaw in The Running Man.

Ahnold didn't have a chainsaw himself though, did he? I think he just tripped up Buzzsaw's motorcycle and it broke the guy's neck. If I'm wrong then that's a great addition.

Well, strictly speaking...it was a duel but only Buzzsaw had the chainsaw.
Arnold brings the chainsaw up into Buzzsaw's groin which made for a great grisly death!

I've tried finding the clip on Youtube but there isn't one of that particular scene.

I would need to check it again, but "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers" might have one at the end.  Linnea Quigley's character goes nuts with the chainsaw.  I cannot remember if one of other chainsaw hookers tries to stop her with another tree-mauling tool.

Thanks Ash, but I'm sepcifically looking for chainsaw-on-chainsaw action, though Running Man is a great movie and grisly chainsaw deaths are always fun!

Searching around on the internet, I found reference to a chainsaw duel in Long Island Cannibal Massacre.

This is great! Many thanks everybody. I've just ordered a VHS copy of the 1982 She (and a used DVD copy of Hundra, which was reccomended along with it by Amazon), imported a copy of Tiger on Beat, and moved Long Island Cannibal Massacre up to the #10 spot on my NetFlix queue.

Keep 'em comin' boils and ghouls!

 :bouncegiggle:

Scary Movie 3 has a funny one where the evil girl fires up a chainsaw and Anna Faris responds in kind, only to find that she's started a leaf blower. The evil girl does a Leatherface tye manoevre and brings part of the roof down on her head.  :teddyr:

Another "one-way" chainsaw fight is between Jackie Chan and Bill Wallace in The Protector so it can't be termed a duel really, but a good scene anyway.  :teddyr:

Yet another is in Prophecy (one way) where one of the Native Americans is nearly cut in half by a chainsaw wielding protestor.

tombofanubis ~ I think the Chow Yun Fat duel is with Gordon Liu, if I'm not mistaken. It is also the only film I've ever seen of Chow's in which he gets a pair of underpants pulled over his head.  :teddyr:

I guess it pays to be old.

I am somewhat surprised that no one has yet mentioned the earliest chainsaw duel (notorious at its time) that I can remember appearing in a film. Rod Taylor and Peter Carsten go at each other with chainsaws in 1968's "The Mercenaries" (aka "The Dark of the Sun.") Based upon the Congo troubles of the '60's.

Gordon Liu VS Conan Lee.  Chow Yun-Fat is fighting other people during the Chainsaw duel (mostly by shooting them).  The movie is directed and choreographed by Lau Kar Leung, who is a living legend.  Cut his teeth in VERY early martial arts flicks for Shaw bros, and is possibly history's best choreographer.  In America, I'd say his best known role and film is Legend of Drunken Master, with Jackie Chan.  He directed and choreographed most of it, and plays the part of the government agent guy.  He also has a role, with fight scenes, in Seven Swords.  Which is pretty impressive for a guy who's 70.

So yeah, Tiger on Beat has some amazing action in its climax.  Extremely entertaining.  Which DVD did you import?  Unfortunately, one pressing of the discs has the sound a full second out of sync, which REALLY SUCKS.  That's the DVD of it I have.  I also have it on VHS, and the VHS has OK sound but is unfortunately full frame and not very good quality.

To be honest, I have no idea which version I wound up with Jim. When it finally comes in I'll let you know. I ordered it a week or two ago, so it should be coming in soon...

And thanks BSKev, I look forward to finding a copy of The Mercenaries!

If your copy ends up in sync with competent subtitles and quality, let me know where you ordered it from.  I want a GOOD DVD of it...

 tomb, it's available on Amazon.com but only on VHS, not on DVD as yet. TCM also screen it a lot.

Not a bad film when you consider that it manages to pass off Kwazulu Natal, South Africa as the Congo  :teddyr:
