It was even better than the Japanese LD I had. I am going to have to get their "Godzilla vs. Mothra" release as well. They've definitely come a long way since that "Ultimate Godzilla Collection" DVD boxed set that featured lousy prints of "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," "Godzilla vs. Mothra," "Godzilla's Revenge," "Terror of Mechagodzilla," and "Rodan." (Actually the video quality was alright with those discs, but the "5.1 Audio" really left much to be desired.) I look forward to Classic Media's upcoming releases of "Ghidrah - The Three-Headed Monster" and "Invasion of the Astro-Monster" (a.k.a. Godzilla vs. Monster Zero)!
Oldskool, I agree 100% that John Saxon is one of the most underrated actors of all time. I did an article about him for Rogue Cinema a few years back. I had hoped to find more info about the man, but sadly I couldn't. In the end, the final product became a lengthy recap of his career and all the various roles he has played. I bought it out of curiosity (seeing as how it was in theaters for less than a month and later made a quiet debut on DVD) and didn't really think it was all that great. The idea behind the film was cool, but I guess I wanted to see more creatures, death and destruction. (Repto-Baboons?! You have to be kidding me!) What'd you think of it? It was no surprise to me this was a disappointing take on Ray Bradbury's terrific short story. It felt to me like there were some serious problems while making this one and a visit to imdb confirmed this. Not only did the original pruducers go bankrupt, the sets were severely damaged during the"Great Prague Flood of 2002". What made me want to throw a brick at the TV and moved this film into its own special little place in my heart was how awful the effects were in some shots (some weren't too bad), the headache inducing time travel theories, and gaping plot holes (If they kept going back to the same dino death why didn't they run into themselves? That one guy was able to go back and warn himself. Why did the 'time waves' only seem to reach to the top of the buildings? Why were the modern buildings still there after the last wave? Why didn't the time waves start in the machine that created them, etc. etc. etc.!). But mostly it was that furry thing, whatever it was, on Ben Kingsley's head. Title: Re: DVD Spree Post by: Pilgermann on April 21, 2007, 10:32:59 PM I haven't gone too crazy with DVD's lately, but I picked up All Quiet On the Western Front 'cause Best Buy had it for $7.50 (and I had a gift card with about 3 bucks left on it), and at Wal-Mart I got Candyman and Men In Black (they mostly had the DTS editions but I found a limited edition one with a poster, and lots of extra crap and it's also in a neat black box) from the $4.88 display. I'm thinking of returning Candyman 'cause I just found out that it's an edited version. The newer special edition isn't that expensive, anyway.

It was the next to last film by the legendary Andy Milligan. By the early 80's he had moved to L.A. and made four more of his typically eye-cramping movies. They're all possibly (if such a thing is possible) even worse than the movies he made on Staten Island in the '70s. One of these days I should really try to find a copy of THE WEIRDO (1989). MONSTROSITY actually had a couple of "real" actors starring along side Milligan's usual gang of prostitutes, drug addicts, and street people. It also features his long-time (and perhaps only) friend Haal Borske as "Frankie". After a fairly gory beginning it appears Milligan completely switched gears and decided to attempt to make this a comedy instead, I guess to try and cash in on the 'teen buddy' comedy craze. Just like they added some rats (and changed the title) to THE RATS ARE COMING! THE WELEWOLVES ARE HERE! to try to ride the coattails of WILLARD. SPOILER ALERT! This one ends up very strangely, with 'Frankie' sitting on at a bus stop discussing the meaning of life with a real homeless woman. Borske cotributed a hilarious commentary to the 'Something Weird' release of THE GHASTLY ONES. He composed the music for the DVD's photo album, too.
