Title: Flash Gordon series lands on the SciFi channel this summer.
Post by: trekgeezer on April 12, 2007, 07:45:38 AM
Eric Johnson (Whitney from  Smallville) will play Flash.  Looks like some good folks are involved, the only question is what kind of tone it will have.

I am concerned about this, because it is SciFi.  Though "Flash Gordon" (1980) is still a fun film, I think we could do with a new attempt at the story.

I'd be excited if it were anyone but Sci-Fi doing this, their movies have for the most part gone from laughably bad to I-can't-even-watch-this bad.  But yeah, a new take on the concept would be great.

That's because they are too obsessed with being "dark and gritty". So much so that they alienate the boy market. Boys make up the main fanbase of science fiction.

I don't mind "dark & gritty" for something like Battlestar Galactica.   A show premised upon having your civilization wiped out and the few survivors being chased around the galaxy is dark & gritty.

But Flash Gordon should be "fun," maybe a little tongue in cheek, and light.
