Title: Whats the worst/annoying show?
Post by: flackbait on April 19, 2007, 02:17:06 PM
Whats the worst/annoying show of all time?
This can be anything from talkshows and sitcoms to the evening news. Also they can be from any era. Just don't say infomercials. Even though they are stupid and annoying they are not shows.

For me it's sex and the city. They put it right over my favorite sitcom and I hate chick shows like that.

I'm a chick and I won't even watch that show!  I'd say any and all talk shows, especially Dr. Phil.

Reality shows I rarely watch, so it's like they don't exist to me. Even when I had cable, Celebrity Fit Club was about it, and that was mostly to see folks like Gary Busey in freako mode. I don't count stuff I liked like Junkyard Wars or MythBusters as reality shows.

Sitcoms like Small Wonder, Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, and say Alf were pretty pathetic. Also the more recent trend of "the fat schlub with wife too hot for him and a crop of cute lil' smartass kids" sitcoms sucks pretty badly, According to Jim, Still Standing, or anything else in this genre is pretty awful. Grounded for Life was a rare exception since it was actually funny to me, and you could see those two characters staying together considering their background how they wound up together in the first place.

Those Dateline online predator stalk and confront shows, even if they do provide a warning to parents are just tabloid sensationalism passing as hard journalism.

Court shows, all of them, real or fake, small claims, divorce, family disputes, whatever need to stop clogging up the airwaves.

Oprah, Dr. Phil, Maury, Montel, Springer (is he still on?). I'll include The View here but I haven't seen it in a while since before Rosie joined the show, but talk radio sure does get some mileage out of her attention whoring/verbal stupidity.

And finally, people, for the sake of civilization or for the sake of our children, or whatever you hold in some regard - STOP WATCHING CHEATERS!!!

Can you tell I hate TV these days?

Entertainment Tonight. They may call it that but in my mind it will always be "The Plastic and Phoney People Showcase".

Sorry too Snivelly
I can't think of anyother way to describe that annoyance they call a show
But I suppose I could add the Muaray talk show too this list.

My thoughts about MTV exactly. Not only does MTV have NOTHING to do with music anymore, beyond waterd down rap music by talentless people (somebody saying uh huh yeah yeah yeah over samples of Led Zep?) but who really cares about spoiled "hip" collage kids and their watery, materilistic lives? In between that ,endless action movie commercials, and lotsa phoney "reality" programming,in which a camera is stuck in a room with a bunch of airheads (oh-and one "street" person, either a black guy or phoney punk guy) and watch them blather on about sex and lifes unbearable little annoyances. Ken and Barbie's life is soooo miserable, because they can't go to the Poofy Dip Paddy show, because Punk boy wantto be a rebel and go see My Dead Girl Freind...and they can't agree on how to split the 10 grand MTV gave them . My 13 year old watches this crap, occasionally, yet it barley holds his interest...gawd...just writing about is making me nausous...urp...

I can live with one or two court shows (Judy and Mathis, even Milan).  Everyone else, who are they???

Adult Swim.  Maybe I'm showing my age, but, with the exception of ATHF, and , any non anime show.  Those show may be better after a hit of the sticky icky icky,  but my job got random drug testing.

BlackAngel75, yep one of the "joys" of night shift work is daytime TV in your free time. The station I get the best here is our CW station, they have most of the court shows, the Fox station has the rest. Makes me miss the daytime movies and decent sitcom reruns, even the few we get here during the day suck.

Judge Joe Brown I don't hate too much, he's better at letting the people talk themselves into trouble then letting them have it, so occasionally he can be funny. Judge Judy got on my nerves quick since her ego has her brow beating people, bragging on her "smarts", and so on. I guess people like since she's been on for so long, but I get the impression she likes to hear herself talk, she must be a joy to be related to.

I work with a guy, I call him the "other fanboy at work" on here, he watches Milan since he has a mad crush on her. Eeh. We get that new one Judge Maria Lopez now, she's like Milan but with a voice like Froggy from the Little Rascals. What a charmer.

Reading through the repsonses I have to agree with several.  Dr. Philipretty much boils down to a man hating loser who will sell his soul to attact a huge female audience. That and I've never seen him give actual advice rather than saying "You Have A Problem" or "You're not right.   Oprah should be gone by now should't she?  Dear lord, The View...especially the Star Jones days.

Sitcom wise, and I'm sure many may disagree, never found Seinfeld very funny.  Nor Friends, Mad About You, insert whatever 90s sitcom you want here.  I'm a child of 80s sitcoms like Cheers that actually made me laugh hysterically.

Putting a positive spin on this thread:

The absolute BEST show ever alive on TV now is RFD-TV's Big Joe's Polka Show.

Actually, if we want to use our time machine to go back and castrate reality TV before it hurts anyone, you'd probably have to start with The Real World. All Survivor is is The Real World in a tropical setting disguised as game show. Even the idea of the group getting together and getting rid of people originated on MTV's legacy of suck.

Arrested Development

I didn't watch this show and it still managed to p**s me off

Here's the story (rant comming)
When it first started airing, I watched a couple of episodes.  After deciding it wasn't for me I turned it off.  However, when I turned on a show like "Best Week Ever" or ET, all I would hear was "Arrested Develpoment-the Best show your not watching", I picked up Entertaiment Weekly-"Arrested Development-the best show yor not watching"

Finally, there was an awards show.  The creator won an award and aid something to the effect of "See-this show is great, and your not watching it"  He said it with such contempt for he non-watchers. This show did everything except say-Watch our show or your a dumb a s s !

I was glad when it was finally cancelled.  No show hated the people who didin't like it more than Arrested Development.

Have an utter and deep hatred for Friends (more for the people who take this as a guideline for real life)

Take shows like seventh Heaven as proof that a God allowing this can't exist.

And I am afraid of this generation growing up with Barney.

Hip Hop used to be  so good, before commercial rap took over  Now rap is a joke, especially to people not familiar with how it used to be and sound. And yeah, MTV doesn't even play music videos anymore (and 3 AM doesn't count). It should be renamed RTV, for reality TV. That is all they show right now, which are all a joke.

All reality TV needs to just go away and never come back.

Best post of the thread.

Ozzymandias speaks: I'm going to upset the Baby Boomers here. In my research for my novel, which takes place in the 1950s - early 60s, I've found that the two most obnoxious shows of that era were "The Mickey Mouse Club" and "The Life and Times of Wyatt Earp."  The last show mentioned would be good if they had real incidental music rather than that annoying mens choir humming and singing "Wyyyyyyatt Earrrrrrp. Wyyyyatt Earrrrp!" After awhile you want to start drinking heavy.

Also the original MMC is so dorky. Too many silly musical/dance numbers (Bobby Burgess' damn smile) that look more like a bad school production. The educational content is tedious. The only thing I like is the cartoons and some of the serials (the Hardy Boys is really good). The rest of it put me to sleep.

I also don't like Darlene Gillespe from the 50's show. She looks like a girl that wouldn't go with me in Junior high and high school. Next time some Boomer starts trashing the 90s version with Britney Spears, point out that Darlene is IN PRISON. Going without panties is nothing compared bilking old people out of their life savings. I also found out that Darlene tried to have Annette fired.

Ozzymandias has spoken!!!

Did they show at least Old Earp shooting people in the back?

My vote is for any reality TV program. Here we have our local versions of "Survivor", "Big Brother" and "Popstars", and they are even worse than the originals. Most of Big Brother's participants end up discussing their misseries in other programs or appearing butt-naked in magazines. A rather sad bunch all of them, they have no discernible talent (and not even an average IQ), but they are allowed to pimp themselves for a while before the next edition throws another bunch of losers.

In the most recent editions of "Popstars" they've started showing the castings, which allows the audience to watch so many pathetic performances that would be lost without the program's "help". Of course the point is that people are supposed to laugh at those who have even less talent than the real participants yet they still have some illusion. It makes me sick.

Can't speak of present Spanish TV in more depth, sorry. About a year ago I stopped watching it, and now I prepare my own TV selection thanks to a fast Internet access and P2P networks. it may be illegal, but it helps me to maintain my sanity intact.

I'll say it: American Idol.

I'm sick of hearing about it all the time. I don't even think anyone on that show is the best thing ever, anyway. Seriously, they sound the same after a while. And I especially hate it when they butcher songs by other artists. I was so p**sed when I heard they were doing Queen. That really put me off of AI.

What was that one show, Full House, AKA My Two Dads. where the premise was that this chick was slutting around, got knocked up, then died leaving the two guys who could be the dad to raise the twins?  Talk about a bad premise for a show, when the kids are old enough, you have to explain to them that their mommy was a slut.  Oh, and we were too cheap to get a paternity test.

Oh, and it starred that guy who also did America's Funniest Home Videos.  Awful performer.

As you can tell, I have caught maybe five minutes of that show, but just hearing about it was bad enough.

I remember a teenybopper comedy from back in the 80's that was called "Square Pegs".  It had Sarah Jessica Parker in it, and was so abominably bad I couldn't stop watching it.

Hate to correct you, especially on a subject like this, but you're mixing up two different shows.

FULL HOUSE starred Bob Saget (who if you haven't seen in THE ARISTOCRATS, you're in for a surprise), the Olsen twins and various other bad actors.  Awful, awful show.

MY TWO DADS was a different show.  The daughter was played by Staci Keanan, who I thought was the prettiest girl I ever saw when I was a kid.  I don't remember much about this show, but Keanan did move on to another awful show called STEP BY STEP before her career shuddered to a halt.

I don't watch much TV outside of DVD's because celebrity worship annoys the hell out of me.  I'd go with AMERICAN IDOL because it seems to have the furthest reach beyond television, and I disagree with manufactured music in general.  Also, and this is most important, never make fun of somebody you have power over.  All that does is make you a bully and an a***ole.  It's like beating up a child.  You could do it, but it's not something that ever should be done.

Thanks Mofo.  I'd go with My Two Dads -- just a really bad premise.

I've never watched American Idol as well, and can't stand pop music.  Still, it'll be interesting to see if any of the contestants has a career in ten years.

Ha, my family used to live with my aunt and cousin, and she used to make me watch Square Pegs when I was a little kid. I don't even remember that show, I just remember the hatred.

I'm with MillionaireWaltz on this one: American Idol needs to be put down. I mean, there isn't even a semblance of talent any more. And if I had to hear one more f***ing word about that fruitcake Sanjaya, I was going to go postal, Oklahoma style. (Too soon?) Friends too. I actually got asked to leave high school because a teacher was offended by a t-shirt I made that read "Friends don't let friends watch Friends."

However, the most evil show to ever be broadcast is My Sweet 16. It's like a preview to hell. No f***ing wonder Paris Hilton is famous for doing nothing. It is the end result of what Yaddo, RC, and flackbait were talking about with celebrity idol worship. This obsession with fame and fortune that's gotten so out of control you don't even have to do anything but be a spoiled little s*!t to be famous. I am so afraid to bring children into this world, especially if I have a daughter. Between Bratz, Brittney Spears, and Barbie complete with tramp stamp... It's like society is attempting to breed vacant slaves to the mall. I've got a nationwide Stepford Conspiracy Theory brewing in my brain...

My girlfriend's Uncle's stepdaughter put him and his wife through the "Sweet 16" bullsh!t... between this, all those Oprah horror stories about "rainbow parties", and the glorification of skanks in modern culture (and I use the term loosely... no pun intended), I refuse to have children because I'm afraid we'll wind up with a daughter. I can hope that it won't be the same in the next 10 or 15 years, but I'm too afraid of the possibilities right now to even think about it. My cousin and his wife are about to have a daughter and he's already mourning his future self. Obviously not all girls grow up to be like this, but it's scary. It's like internet sex predators: you know that not everyone on the internet could possibly be the next Freddy Krueger, but thanks to media scare tactics that's what everybody thinks in the back of their heads. When my girlfriend and I used to tell people we met online, everybody looked at me like I was either stupid or dangerous. I'd rather not take my chances.  :tongueout:

Do watch The Aristocrats if only for the Saget sections, I had heard how rough he could be but had never seen it before. That guy really held back on the shows that made him rich and famous.

I remember My Two Dads, Paul Rieser (of Mad About You) and Greg Evigan (of BJ and the Bear "fame") as the fathers. How loose or drunk was the mom that she went both of these guys who were in TV terms were supposed to be so different, thyey were little more than yet another retread of The Odd Couple. Staci Keanan was cute but I always thought the actress who played her blond bad influence best friend, Shelby in some of the episodes was way hotter. Amy Hathaway, according to IMDB. Seen her in a few other things like Courage Under Fire and the odd TV episode but she never became a big name.

Plus that show gave us Dick Butkus as the goofy soda shop owner who couldn't cook or something equally stupid later on.

The most I could ever stand of My Sweet 16 was when the guy on The Soup on E! would rip into the show, how shallow and selfish the girls were, and how indulgent the parents were. Easy pickings but still worth the laughs. This show just goes to show that having money doesn't come with the brains or discipline to spend it well.

I'll add The Apprentice, I hate Trump anyway, but giving that man a show built around his ego and bloated self-image and people trying to please him for their own selfish ends all strung together with shameless product plugs just disgusts me even more.

Also The Big Idea with Donnie Duetsch. COuldn't believe when I saw it still on TV while at a friend's house the other day. The guy may be a genius in the advertising world, where he made his money, but he has no right being on TV. A master at talking about nothing and calling it something, almost as vacuous as Larry King, but without the excuse of being a withered husk of a human being who may not know what time zone he's in at the moment. I read a profile of Deutsch a few years ago, he retired from advertising after selling his ad agency, and decided rather than just being rich and hanging around the famous and beautiful people he wanted to be one. Unless his ratings have improved since I ditched cable, I had heard he was getting ratings on CNBC almost as low at John McEnroe's boring talk show. Unless he's buying the time himself or is just that good at selling ad time for a show no one watches, I can't see why CNBC keeps it on.

Any reality show it just bad.  I've hated them from the beginning.  Too many talk shows.  Everyone has one and they are for the most part all the same they SUCK.  CNN for the most part I don't care for them.  MTV went down hill after they stopped showing music videos.  G4 kinda went down hill after they got rid of Filter.  Well the only reason I watched it was because of Filter was really hot.  I wanted her so badly.  Most of the main networks ABC, CBS, NBC.  Most of the good shows are no longer in production so other than news what is the point of watching it.

I do enjoy FOX they still have some great shows on it.  Grounded for life was really good.  It was a shame that it got canceled.  The oldest daughter on that show was really cute.  Final Fu now that was a horrible show.  WMAC Masters was a much better show than this garbage.

I liked the PJ's it had some really good comedy to it.

Aside from the obvious shows I could mention, one that really gets on my nerves is VH1's wealth-envy show, "The Fabulous Life of...", complete with its  faux Robin Leach announcer.  I like what's on a lot of VH1, surprisingly to myself and others, but I just want to scream sometimes, when I look through the listings on certain days, and it's "The Fabulous Life of..." all over the place!  Now they have this "The Fabulous Life presents..." garbage, which cuts into all my other favorite programs.

That's So Raven
Suite Life of Zack and Cody
Naked Brothers Band
Cory in The House

and pretty much any show produced by Nickelodean/Disney Channel after 2000.

Which is pretty much why I don't watch a lot of television.  My wife's channel surfing atrocities are the stuff of legend, though.  She'll just have the TV on and flip back and forth between MTV, VH1, E! and Bravo.  So an average, aimless night of television goes like this:

Worthless rich teenagers throw extravagant parties/Sad, pathetic Real World alumni battle/have sex/argue with each other for cash and prizes

to

Aren't extraordinarily rich, vapid actors and actresses so much better than you?

to

Extraordinarily rich, vapid actors and actresses ARE better than you and here's all the stuff they have that you can't have in your wildest dreams/Their latest trainwreck, scandal ridden lives

to

Kathy Griffin stand-up special marathon/Kathy Griffin reality show marathon

It drives me nuts.  I find most television is completely worthless and reinforces all the wrong values.  Network television is creatively brankrupt with nothing but the latest CSI knock off or Hospital drama.  There are a few exceptions, but most television is just awful.

I see I'm not the only one whose wife is glued to MTV, VH1, E! and Bravo. Throw in the Food Network and HGTV and you have my wife's favorites.
Dude!  It's awful, isn't it?  The thing with my wife is that she doesn't really watch this stuff.  It's just flip flip flip flip flip.  Then she checks the schedule and find something, but the first commercial break comes and it's back to those awful, awful channels.

That's So Raven
Suite Life of Zack and Cody
Naked Brothers Band
Cory in The House

and pretty much any show produced by Nickelodean/Disney Channel after 2000.

I saw some of these one Saturday morning while staying at my buddy's house when his kids got a hold of the remotes. Man, I knew I watched some stupid stuff as a kid - but the  60-70s era bad sitcom writing, recycled plots, and laughtrack overkill; kiddie "acting"; and the utter and complete stupidity of most if not all adults made me wince. I read an article about the whole maunfactured Zach and Cody hooplah and how they were the next stage of the business empire of behind the Olsen twins, ugh.

Then they got me to sit through about half of an episode of Hanna Montana, that was pretty rough going as well.

It all made me nostalgic for the corny but mild stupidity of Banana Splits reruns.

I had some bad shows on as a kid, but mostly, I felt they were good shows.  I mean, sure, Power Rangers was bad, but it was world's better than Zack and Cody.  What kills me too, is the fact that kids today can't watch the shows I watched, because they think they're boring.

I still watch Boy Meets World.  That was light years ahead of Raven's show.

And I feel for ya on the Hannah Montana thing.  Any show that has Billy Ray Cyrus as a leading actor, doesn't need to be seen by anybody.

Anything produced by Nickelodeon/Disney Channel from '85-'96 was good.  They had Ren and Stimpy and You Can't Do That On Television, and Pete and Pete.

I heard this guy, Douglas Rushkoff, on NPR recently.  He's pretty much the guy who coined the term viral marketing.  He's a bit of a marketing expert and wrote this bad ass book called Coercion about how companies go about deliberately coming up with shady ways to get you to buy their stuff.  Right now, the hot marketing demographic are "tweens", which I think spans 9 to 12 years old.  The apparent strategy is marketing brands heavily to this demographic since they're in such a highly programmable state, mentally.  All of that Nick/Disney Channel stuff is a smaller wheel in a machine that is built specifically to set children on a track where they'll be much more susceptible to heavy branding and marketing all the way through life.  Marketers call it Cradle to the Grave marketing and I think it sucks.  The Olsen Twins were the first demonstration of the effectiveness of that tactic.  Kids who got on that train early had parents who bought them all of their related merchandise right up until coke binges and eating disorders brought them crashing down.

I'm days away from being a father of a little girl and I'm absolutely petrified that she'll be pulled into that scheme as she grows.  I'll ultimately be in control of what she buys, but the media that's directed at kids is so saturated with this sort of stuff that I'll only have so much influence.

Am I getting too heavy?

Naa man. This kinda thing worries a lot of people, even me and I'm not going to be a parent for years. I guess the only thing you can do is change the channel everytime a commercial comes on.

After reading that, if I find out I'm having a kid, I'm throwing the tv out, or getting rid of cable.

Not just for the reasons mentioned above, but because the shows are horrible to boot.  Eck.

On July 13, the second most watched channel on television was NBC with 4.6 million watchers. And what was the most watched channel? The Disney Channel with 5.1 million watchers. That is the first time that a cable channel has ever beaten out all the network channels as being the most watched channel on television.  And what were these 5.1 million watchers watching, the programs listed, except for the "Naked Brothers Band," which is a Nickelodeon program.

Actually, the  age range of tweens is 9 to 14.

Well, flackbait, if you ever turn to the Disney Channel, then you are going to watch alot of it, as they are a commercial free channel. They may advertise their upcoming programs, but otherwise it's commercial free. Or, at least, it was, the last time I saw it in July of this year.

That's the saddest set of news I've ever heard.  Especially considering the fact that the tv shows on there now could be and probably are written by 6 year olds.  They're horrible.

Last good show Disney Channel produced was Even Stevens.  And that was in 2000.  People are stupid if they watch Disney Channel anymore.

Here are some others I can't stand:

America's Next Top Model
Grey's Anatomy
Ugly Betty
Desperate Housewives
Survivor

Pretty much any reality show.

Anything with Ant and Dec in.

Big Brother.

Anything channel 4 makes that's for the 'yooth'. T4, 4Music that kinda thing.

My Hero...man, it's good that got axed. *Cringe*

Any show were people must tell me I must watch it because it's the next big thing. That just makes me hate it more, even if I've never seen it....Lost, Prison Brake, 24, Desperate Housewives, Heroes...

Dexter

Deal or no Deal

Aside from the obvious shows I could mention, one that really gets on my nerves is VH1's wealth-envy show, "The Fabulous Life of...", complete with its  faux Robin Leach announcer.  I like what's on a lot of VH1, surprisingly to myself and others, but I just want to scream sometimes, when I look through the listings on certain days, and it's "The Fabulous Life of..." all over the place!  Now they have this "The Fabulous Life presents..." garbage, which cuts into all my other favorite programs.

That really makes me feel better about being single :teddyr:

reality progs really have had their day; and that includes so-called talent shows like "X Factor" and "Britain's Got Talent" et al.

That said I really don't watch much TV these days; too many channels showing too many repeats of spinoffs or cheap imports. The BBC still broadcasts a few golden nuggets, as does the History and Discovery channels, but by and large TV is a bucketful of dogt*rds.

I never saw the point in soaps either - most of them imitate real-life rather something more entertaining and escapist. But clearly I am in the minority.

The kind of show that really, REALLY bugs me are programs like HUNTING HITLER or ANCIENT ALIENS that go off on wild speculation or conjecture and put it across as solid evidence by non-historians (John Cena???) or crackpot ufo geeks. It's misleading and some kid watching junk like this will think that Hitler's retirement home is in Argentina or that the Pyramids were flying saucer cell phone towers.

Also-to a lesser degree-because they're just plain stupid- Ghost and Bigfoot Hunter shows. Yup-running around the woods with a film crew and a bunch of morons yelping 'Bigfoot calls' or banging sticks together is sure to bring Bigfoot right to you!

And the Ghost Hunters- good gawd! Have you ever looked at those photos of clouds that seen to look like Jesus? Kinda cool, huh? Of course they're just clouds. Ever been in an old rotten building full of critters and crumbling rafters? Every squeak is a ghost-every moth or speck of dust caught in a camera light is a (and this kills me) supernatural 'ORB', and every echoed noise is some spirit saying 'heelp meee...".

And of course , after 10 years blundering around like 3 Stooges, do any of them come up  anything? At least at the end of a Stooge short the 'spooks' are revealed to be Nazi spies or greedy heirs-and they did it in 20 minutes!

EDIT: This is an old thread!

FURTHER EDIT: I have now watched that Hister watching HITLORY channel three (count 'em) 3 times!!!  And laughed out loud each time.  That is some funny mean sh!t, and close to how I respond to that there thingee called a "history" channel.
