Title: Hot Fuzz (2007)
Post by: Joe the Destroyer on April 21, 2007, 04:47:56 AM
Take a buddy cop film, give it Edgar Wright's sense of humor, add in some decent splatter moments and what you have is Hot Fuzz.

To put it in one word: amazing.  I've never been to a movie where the entire theater clapped and not just sections of it.  It was a lot of fun to watch and was solid pretty much through it all.

What did everyone else think?

I think I hate you.

I've searched theaters in a 4 hour radius from me and NONE are showing Hot Fuzz.  I have to wait for the DVD  :bluesad:

That really sucks.  I noticed one of the two major theaters in my area wasn't carrying it, and I thought it must be limited in some way.

Well, hope you do somehow get a chance to see it before DVD.

British humor is so great. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's satire on the Action Genre is just as dead on as their Zombie staire.

I quite enjoyed it.  I'd say I liked it a bit more than Shaun of the Dead.  It was quite amusing.  The He-Man reference was probably the funniest thing to me personally.  There were numerous action references that were pretty good, probably my favorite being the use of a Lethal Weapon musical cue (I could have done without the Bad Boys references though, godawful movies, and I actually usually LIKE Michael Bay).  I will say I thought the action scenes towards the end weren't really any good.

*****BIG SPOILERS******

Personally, I think that in the final shootout, they should have killed all the townies rather than letting many live.  They certainly deserved it.

****END******

By the way, what is up with British movies where random rural folk are psychotic, murderous lunatics?

I freaking loved it saw it twice already and may see it again in a week or so. Luckily a theater within 15 miles of me got it. I thought it was as funny as Shaun of the Dead. Also the Soundtrack, if you can find it, is cool too it a lot of 70's sounding brit rock with some clips from the movie thrwon in.

I'll see about posting a more in depth review of the film in the near future.  Right now it's 1 AM and I'm tired.

I saw it tonight, not under the best of conditions....

I thought it was good, not as good as Shaun Of The Dead, but still quite good.  There wasn't as much humor, but I did rather enjoy the fact that it takes the murders very serious and comes off as just as much a horror film as an actioner.

Like I said, a more in depth review soon.

One of the few films I'm looking forward to seeing this year, especially as I missed out on seeing their "Shaun of the Dead," when it opened in the city in which I live.

"Hot Fuzz" opened locally last weekend, and while I have yet to see it, it is penciled in for this upcoming weekend.

I saw Hot Fuzz this weekend.  I thought it was good but not nearly as good as Shaun of the Dead.

Now, I don't know if this is because I'm more of a horror movie fan than a action movie fan.  I guess I like Simon Pegg playing a sad sack than an annoyed kick-ass cop.  Shaun of the Dead had my friends and I rolling in the isles.  I went with the same group and we laughed but not nearly as frequently or as hard.

Hot Fuzz is a fun little movie and I enjoyed it but I thought that Shaun was funnier and more inspired.

P.S.-  It was a treat to see Timothy Dalton having fun on the screen.

Anything that references "Point Break" is a great movie in my book.

 Thanks Joe, I was hoping someone would start a thread like this.

I saw Hot Fuzz over this last weekend and really enjoyed it. I was hoping that it would be released to theatres and not put straight onto VHS and DVD like the great Shaun Of The Dead. Luckily, I was able to see it.

I enjoyed it as I said ~ there were elements of The Wicker Man and other great this-place-is-not-what-it-seems films. I was amused to realize that Paul Freeman was in it ~ I thought the old priest looked familiar, and to see people like Edward Woodward and Timothy Dalton in it. The cast seems to have had a good time making it, I certainly had a good time watching it.

Drawbacks ~ only two for me: the over-reliance on hyper-kinetic editing and the film was the loudest I have seen in a long while. Other than that, no complaints. Someone told me that Cate Blanchette and Peter Jackson play cameos in this film ~ I think Cate is Nicholas' girlfriend and Peter Jackson is the Mad Santa.

The scariest moment for me: when Nicholas discovers what is really happening and the expression on Danny's face.  :buggedout:

I saw this last Friday and I really liked it.  Very funny stuff, and surprisingly gory at times.  I'm sure that they were mimicking overly long action films but  the shootout at the end needs some trimming.  Otherwise, it's good stuff.

This is the follow up movie from the British guys that gave the world that awesome movie in the form of Shaun of the Dead.

Hot Fuzz got released in limited release this past Friday (4/20/07) but a theater near where I live in Roanoke, VA is getting it this coming Friday.

I've really been wanting to see this since I first heard about it.

It's supposed to be a satire of (unintentionally homoerotic) buddy cop movies (like Tango & Cash, Lethal Weapon), Jerry Bruckheimer cop flicks like Bad Boys and even some Italian Giallo elements from the reviews that I've read.

Has anyone else seen it?  I'll be sure to post my thoughts on it after I get to see it this Saturday!

There's already a topic for it on this board.

EDIT BY ANDREW:  I merged the two threads.

HOT FUZZ (2007) - It's a good film, but I fell a sleep in the theater. Some of the murder mystery parts kinda put me to sleep, the comedy was ok, but the gory parts were the best. Also we have our two stars back from SHAUN OF THE DEAD. I really like MONTY PYTHON and British accents in film, but for some reason the latest British action films have turned me off with British slang and general cursing. Payed $9 for the ticket and we had about less than 20 people in the theater. Wonder if the price has something to do with it? The audience was laughing for the most part.

  (7 out of 10 Stars) Would have been better as a Zombie film instead of a comedy murder mystery.

These are my thoughts exactly.  I love action films but I'm more of a horror fan than anything, and Shaun Of The Dead was a fantastic film for me.  As OldSkool said, Pegg works better as the loser.  After watching Spaced and Shaun Of The Dead numerous times, it was hard for me to make the transition with Pegg into a no-nonsense, by the books, ass kicking cop.  I think the reason behind that is that I saw a lot of myself in Tim (Spaced) and Shaun.

Despite that though, it wasn't a total failure.  Some of the action was fun, and some of the jokes worked.  It just seemed to be more subdued than what I expected given Pegg/Frost/Wright's previous works together.

But as I said before, I did see the film under less than satisfactory conditions.  I'm hoping I'll like it more when I get a better copy on DVD.

I was a little disapointed. It was very slow in the beginning and i diddn't get alot of the jokes early on. When the murders began it got better by the ending it was great. Not as good a Shaun of the Dead though. I'd have to see it again to see if i would buy it

*** out of ****.

The 1st and 3rd acts were great but the middle could have used some severe tightening up.

Simon Pegg was mis-cast though he did a good job.  Nick Frost wasn't given much to do.

While I wasn't expecting it to be as great as Shaun of the Dead was, I still liked it even though it's got some pretty apparent problems.

I really disliked Shaun of the Dead, so Im not expecting a whole lot from this one. Maybe ill wait for a friend to buy it and watch it with them.
