Title: "I'm your worst nightmare."
Post by: AnubisVonMojo on April 21, 2007, 10:17:54 PM
As mentioned in the "Who freaks you out?" thread, here's a post for the freakiest, most terrifying nightmares you've ever had. For starters I'm just going to post my Meg Mucklebones nightmare, then I'll bring out the #1 nightmare a little later...

Suspense kids, that's the way you do it.

I saw Legend as a kid and the only thing I retained from the movie wasn't Tim Curry as Darkness, but Meg f*cking Mucklebones. I had this weird dream that involved two guys in a rowboat pointing to the window of the Bates house, seeing "mother"'s shadow, then screaming as Meg comes up from the water and drags them both screaming into the swamp... Second most disturbing nightmare of my life.

I had a nightmare once of being on a battlefield, my head was like a newscamera, or the camera and I were one, and we were catching all of the violence . . . the bullets hit the soldiers' bodies so hard the blood did not spatter but was knocked out in chunks . . . the camera that I was holding zoomed in on a dying soldier, he was drowning in his own blood . . .

I had a recurring nightmare of being hunted by a Predator. Why a Predator would want to target my then young teenage butt never occurred to me but in the nightmare, I always seemed to elude capture by hiding someplace or another in a wooded area I was familiar with growing up in childhood but just when I thought I had escaped, the Predator would reveal itself right behind me and I'd wake up in a cold sweat, screaming.

Another one I had years later involved a ghost. And believe it or not, this ghost declared its presence with a white sheet over its head...only it was my sheet. I hollered and screamed once more and woke up with the sheets around my throat.  I'm still not entirely convinced the house I was staying in at the time didn't have some type of presence.  And this was not my only ghostly encounter. I had one many years before in childhood, even more terrifying seeing a creature not unlike the one in the Wendigo legend.  It looked part abnormally huge Indian, part animal but it was dark and I have to admit I didn't see it clearly. Still I never ran so fast from anything in my life and the thing seemed to be chasing me until I got near my home and just as I was drawing close to it, I looked behind it and it was gone. I hope I never see it again as long as I live.

Here's the closest image I could find to what I saw. Just imagine it with a more human Indian face...slightly less grotesque and it was entirely dark with no white patches.

I used to have a recurring knightmare when I was a kid of another kid hanging onto the ledge outside our bathroom window and somebody would push a drawing pin into his cheek at which point he would fall, I would always wake up before he hit the floor though.

Last night I had a rather weird nightmare about some people falling off a boat and into the ocean while the boat drifts away. I'm one of the people in the water. So we're just floating here in the middle of th Atlantic or Pacific or  I don't know where when this huge beaked shark with no eyes suddenly pops up and eats a woman. Me and the others a desperately flopping around trying to get away from this freak of nature when the thing comes after. That's about where I woke up. Didn't really scare or disturb me, but it definitely weirded and creeped me out. It was like a First Person Shooter game crossed with a vore fetish video. In other words, something I'd rather not see.

Years and years ago I had several dreams that scared the crap outta me where I was out in the woods and suddenly Bigfoot was after me. No matter where I hid, he'd find me. It seems like I was always just a step or two ahead of him.

what era of warfare.  I've had several nightmares of the WW1 trenches.  I'd say world war one is probably the most terrifying to dream about.

My dream was Vietnam era. I have had nightmares about WWI also; my grandfather earned the purple heart in that war.  The most hideous kinds of injuries were inflicted on soldiers in WWI.

Okay, here's the freakiest nightmare I've ever had. This one gave me the rapid heartbeat, the cold sweats, the inability to go back to sleep, etc...

The first thing I remember was sitting in my room, on my bed, watching "Murphy Brown" on a small television that was across the room. Suddenly, that corner of the room seems to extend back further, like one of those weird shots in the movies where it looks like the room suddenly expands around the character as they look on in shock or horror. From my peripheral I can see that it's suddenly grown very dark and violent outside. The clouds blot out the sun, taking on this sickly green tint like the clouds before a tornado is going to hit. Lightning starts to flash and thunder cracks the air. Slowly, in great horror and knowing this is something I shouldn't be doing, I look directly at the window. My stomach knots and the hairs on my neck stand up as I sit transfixed, staring at the small window as a radiating source of light slowly starts to creep up from below the window outside. First the crown of thorns comes into view, then the bloodied hairline, followed by the rest of the dying, agonizing face of Christ. His eyes are in that "staring toward the sky" position and his mouth is hanging open and you can just imagine the intense pain the guy's gotta be in. When his face is fully in view, he stops ascending and slowly turns his gaze directly at me. I want more than anything to look away from him, but I can't move. As he stares into my eyes, he opens his mouth as far as his jaw will allow, and starts to give out an accusing scream, as if I was the one who put him there. As he screams this unearthly torrent, the world starts to tremble violently like a global earthquake and everything starts flashing back and forth from normal to what you'd see in a film negative and back again. That's the point that I woke up...

I don't know if it sounds as terrifying when it's typed or not, but everytime I tell that dream in real life, people just look at me, completely freaked out and never quite looking at images of Christ the same way again. Spooky.

The worst nightmare that I've ever had, tomb, was in late 1997. I remember it wasn't long after Princess Diana died and I dreamt I was walking down the Champs Elysees in Paris late at night.

There was a chilly wind (I remember shivering) and a lot of mist around, I don't know if you get mist and fog there. Out of the mist someone wearing a hoodie appeared and walked by me. I thought I knew this person and that they might be somebody famous, so I turned and followed the person. I caught up with the person and touched their shoulder. Instantly the person turned around, pushed the hood back and said "Yes, Trevor?" It was Princess Diana, her blond hair caked with blood, her facial skin torn and bleeding and she had maggots crawling out of her mouth and eyes........... I woke up screaming ~ I still have trouble sleeping most nights. :buggedout:

All my bad dreams tend to involve horrible death in one way or another, I have no idea why.

Lately its a reoccurring nightmare about corpses in my parent's back yard.

Its completely odd because I have this feeling in the dream I had something to do with the corpse's deaths.  They aren't exactly buried deep and I can't recall knowing who they are.  There are a few in the dream buried here and there with a garden growing around them.  For some reason I remember seeing some corpses above ground with little or nothing left of their earthly remains.  I feel in the dream as if I should be giving them a more proper burial but being afraid of getting caught if I dig them up.

Another one, maybe not a nightmare but humorous, is one where i have to go to the bathroom and no matter where i go I cant get relief. Its either that or the bathroom is horribly soiled.  This usually happens when I have to go to the bathroom in real life. Anyone else ever have that?

My worst nightmare was a recurring one i had for over 6 months when i was in my early 20's.  I am walking around my apartment complex when i see 2 small children (not more than 8 or 9 years old) walking with a giant rolly-polly.  This thing dwarves the children easily.  And the kids are calling my name in that freaky horror-movie-all-drawn-out-and-i'm-so-innocent way.  So i go and hide in my closet and i can hear them getting closer and closer, until they are in the apartment.  then i can hear them right outside the closet door, and the door starts to open..........and i wake up.

Anubis,

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for bestowing upon me the ability to never freakin' sleep again!!  :teddyr:

Yikes, that creeped me out just reading it. Vampires? Aliens? Ghosts? Tom Laughlin? None of these things scare me, but Christ appearing like that? I'll be staring at every Jesus painting I see from now on and wonder if the eyes are gonna follow me across the room. :buggedout:

That is a chilling one, Anubis. Did you ever hear the story of Jake Roberts vision of Christ while watching a play? Ever since hearing him tell it, when I walk past a church at night, I look away, just in case.

I have nightmares all the time, because I'm a morbid kind of guy (and I'm likely going to have some nasty ones tonight after reading that Jesus story). Two come to mind at the moment, though. The first goes back a long time ago, to when I hadn't even started school yet. I'm in the back seat of a car, with my mother driving. We're fleeing a ghost, for good reason, because everyone it passes dies. Sounds simple enough, but for some reason it still disturbs me after more than thirty years.

The second one requires a quick bit of background. My grandparents had an old house in the sticks, and every night that I stayed there, I was terrified. I would hear weird sounds, including voices calling my name (although that could have been my imagination), and the place just felt wrong. It didn't help when I found out my mother was also scared of the place (which leads one to wonder why she left me there so often).

Anyways, in the dream, my sister, her daughter, and myself are escaping from the house. As I am about to run out of the yard, I look up at the window of the master bedroom, and see my niece looking down at me. I run back into the house and up the stairs. Just as I run through the doorway to the bedroom, I realize she was already out of the house and couldn't possibly be in the room...

That's when I woke up.

Believe me Fyre, the look of horror that's plastered on people's faces when I tell them that story in real life is beautiful. I think it's the fact that I do the face and everything when telling it, so the graphic illustration helps solidify it. One of my friends was so freaked out by it, that she now tells it to everybody she knows when the topic of dreams comes up.

Maybe I should make of video of it for YouTube...

Oh yeah, and congrats on your Legion of Muck award! I've been eyeing one myself for years but gave up when I realized that my writing was crap, my site was needlessly complicated to navigate and I had an unfortunate tendency to go for months at a time without updating it... heh heh.

The thing with the Wendigo type creature was not a dream. It really happened although most people aren't willing to believe it saying I've a wild imagination. Unfortunately the experience still haunts me to this very day. Strangely enough though, I rarely dream about that experience itself but instead in my nightmares, it's always something else, usually unseen, chasing me.

I haven't had a nightmare since I was a little kid - which is getting to be an awful long time ago  :bluesad:  The most common one had me in a clothing store, my mom was forever dragging me into clothing stores at that time.  It was night, dark out on the street, and there I was stuck inside the store.  It was a place called Doorflingers in LaCrosse, WI.  The place always had a slightly weird feel about it, the layout was just a bit odd.  I suppose it had probably been built 50 years earlier and later converted to a clothing store, and it was laid out in a peculiar way (or so it seemed to my 10 year old self).  There were these big fancy doors in front, and I'd be looking out at the street, frantically trying to figure out a way to get outside.

Another one had me jumping off an embankment.  In front of our house there was a steep hill, in the dream I'd run to the top of the hill and jump off, always waking up just before I hit the bottom.  I think I actually hit once, and I bounced.  I had several dreams about heights, I remember one where I was way up on top of a cliff, hanging on for dear life.  I'd also have dreams where I was trying to get away from something, but it was like my legs would only move slowly, as if I ware in a 3' deep pool of syrup or something.

This took place...gad, almost three years ago now.  My freshman year of college, I was in a long distance relationship with my high school sweetheart (she has since dumped me for a drug dealer -- oh well, her loss).  In the dream, an invisible demonic entity was unleashed into the world to eliminate humanity, and its modus operandi was to flay people alive, with such horrific skill that the victim was still alive when reduced to nothing more than a circulatory system and quivering organs loosely tethered to a skeleton.

This thing came for me, but I begged and pleaded for it to spare me and my girlfriend.  It mulled this over for a moment, and said it would spare us -- but we had to watch as it slaughtered everyone we'd ever cared about, and if we so much as flinched or closed our eyes, the deal would be broken and it would find a way to make us suffer worse.

I screamed and thrashed myself awake, at which point my roommate, who'd been playing World of Warcraft for three days straight, turned around and said, "Dude, what the F*** is your problem?"

Worst nightmare I had kept recurring every night for about 2 months straight. I dream that I am in an ambulance with two guys that I know, (who I don't like btw) an they are screaming and in agony under these white sheets. Then, the ambulance staff pull the sheets off and reveal that the men have a flesh eating disease, then they try to get out of the ambulance and their arms and legs fall off and I'm getting soaked in blood. This really is the most vivid and realistic dream I have ever had, it frightened me alot, considering I had dreamed about 2 people I dispise. Very gory indeed.
