So I'm sitting here typing up this poll and I think to myself, "Holy crap!  Nicolas Cage has been in a lot of movies."

I hadn't realized that he's been in that many movies.
The dude has got to be a gazillionaire by now.

Anyway,  I like most of his films but the three that stand out for me are:
The Rock
The Family Man
and
8MM

Ultimately, I chose 8MM.
Cage is just awesome in that film and whenever I think of a Nicolas Cage movie...that's the first one that always comes to mind.

What's your favorite Nicolas Cage movie?

Mine would have to be Eight Millimeter. Or 8MM, whichever. I prefer Cage's low-key performances to his more manic ones (Castor Troy in Face Off, anyone?), and private investigator Tom Wells in 8MM is a fairly ordinary guy thrust into extraordinary situations. My favorite kind of hero. Plus, the movie also features Joaquin Phoenix, James Gandolfini, Peter Stormare, and Anthony Heald; and not only that, but at one point they're all literally in the same scene together and interacting. Other films featuring great character actors, like, for instance, 48 Hours, don't really let any of them share any scenes together (i.e., Jonathan Banks never gets to have a scene with Frank McRae or David Patrick Kelly). How can you go wrong with that lineup?

   I like Nicholas Cage and his movies.Recently I watched his Ghost Rider movie where he played a role of a man who is under a bond with a devil.I like the storyline,but the most appealing movie was National Treasure where he finds the hidden treasure.It was simply superb and captivating.His acting is also very appreciating in that film.

I picked Wild At Heart because I'm a big Lynch fan and I just liked his performance in it.  I love at the end where he's surrounded by punks and he says "What do you f***ots want?" then they kick the crap out of him.   :bouncegiggle:

I liked the movie Shadow of the Vampire.  He wasn't in it but he was the producer.  I don't know if that counts.

I would have to say the best example of his acting abilities is Face Off.  Imagine playing a character who is playing another character playing your character?  By far the best acting i've ever seen him do. 

I picked WILD at HEART too.

Nicholas Cage falls in the same catagory for me as Bruce Willis. Not being a big fan, but I must admit that both of them have done fine films. Here are my favorite Nicholas Cage films:

It Could Happen to You

Always think of ConAir when Nicolas Cage gets brought up.  Pretty much serves as a classic popcorn movie.

Well, thank you, Ash. As you can notice by reading my new signature, I'm not exactly enthusiastic about Nicolas Cage's present career. It's nice to remember he's been in his share of good movies over the years.

I guess that if I had to choose one performance that would be "Wild at heart", but Cage has been good in some truly amazing films as well where his work didn't stand out as much. ·"Bringing up the dead" or "The weather man" are personal favourites of mine. Cage looks and acts pretty much as a human being when his histrionics don't get in the way, and if it is one role he knows how to play well is the one of a normal person caught up in a extremely anxious situation, one that many other actors would seem capable to go through without breaking a sweat.

He's all over the map in my book. He's in good movies where I don't think he brings much to it like The Rock. He's in good movies where he helps it be better like Lord of War, and he's in classics where the film just wouldn't work without him like Raising Arizona. Then he's in crap that I can't stand like National Treasure, being lazy for a paycheck. Or he stinks up a film with his performance like Con Air- that damn awful accent ruins any scene he's in.

I'll vote for Raising Arizona for all around best, with an honorable mention for Lord of War which is a film that needs to be seen more.

What's up with Cage's face recently? Was it injured in some terrible fire?

He now bears an eerie resemblence to Chevy Chase, circa 1995.

I don't know.  The last "movie" I saw Cage in was "Werewolf Women of the SS"  :teddyr:

i liked The Rock.  It was a really good action movie with good performances from all the lead actors.

I saw the ads for whatever his new movie is (there one where he sees future events in the future, or something) and I had to wonder if he has the same "imaginative" plastic surgeon as Bruce Jenner and Burt Reynolds.

If you mean his hair, it looks like it's been really thinning for the last five years or so. I'm sure he uses hairpieces in many of his recent movies. I can't help paying attention to it because I'm balding too.

Now that you mention it he looks wasted for a guy that is in his mid forties.

His hair has been going for a good ten years, I remember articles about him and other actors who use hairpieces regularly. It's an old story among big actors, ho-hum. Saw a feature on TV when they found a collection of rugs that Bing Crosby wore at one of the film studio in the wardrobe or makeup dept.

I saw Cage on The Tonight Show a few months ago on the NBC HD channel at my buddy's house. He looked very haggard and lumpy faced. We thought it was just the higher reslotuion of the channel, so we switched to the regular NBC station. He still looked awful, Leno looked fine on either one, but his makeup artists have had plenty of time to get down how to work on him for the new higher resolution. We were guessing that Cage went on with little or no makeup. Bad bad choice.
