Title: Best B-movies that flopped in the theatre--but you loved?
Post by: respectmeordye3 on April 26, 2007, 01:16:46 PM
My list:

Paparazzi:

Cool action flick shows Paparazzi the way they really are.

UHF:

Great comedy starring Weird Al

Heavy Weights:

Just, a hilarious film.

Almost any Hulk Hogan movie:

Cheesy but fun.

The Marine:

Less cheesy than Hogan's films but just as fun.

That's all I can remember for now--more will likely follow......

Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man
I first saw this at the pique of my wannabe stage, right after I talked my Dad into getting me this '85 Virago 1000 Midnight Special, & I dunno, it just kinda stuck to me.

I thought the opening credits sequence was pretty cool, & at the time, it was good to find out that Robert Ginty was still alive.

Plus, that part at the very beginning where Mickey Rourke gives it a little too much gas, lets the clutch out a little too fast, & the bike almost gets away from him always brings a smile to my face. And that part at the very end where he tries to "steer" his bike, & it almost gets away from him, that's kinda cute too.

WILLARD-the original 1971 version was a hit (believe it or not...saw it at a movie theater on it's first run...I was 8, I believe),but the remake with Crispin Glover dived...and I enjoyed that a lot! More so than the first.

"The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension"

As I understand it bombed and the studio even went bankrupt.  Still, I love this one.  Where else can you find John Lithgow yelling, "Laugh while you can, monkey boy!"

Super Mario Brothers

Loved it when it came out on video, still like it today.

Also saw WILLARD on first release back in 1971, somewhat older than you RCMerchant, it was the same theatre in which I watched ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES.  Loved both films though I haven't seen that WILLARD since!

How 'bout the despised HOWARD THE DUCK?  Hardly a "B" movie, but it sure flopped!

Gymkata is my all time favourite and yes, I did see it in the theatre in 1986 when it arrived in Zimbabwe. A full theatre it was too.

I can't wait for Andrew's review.
