Thats a tough one because I rent most of my films.  I'd say the Sci-Fi Explosion DVD at Walmart in the dollar bin.  It has four flicks on it including Assignment Outer Space, Message From Space, etc.

I like to purchase  collections, 50 movie sets, I just got:
1 Horror Classics
2 Chiller Classics
1 Nightmare Worlds
1 Sci-Fi classics
There is only one repeat, Unknown World is on Nightmare Worlds and Sci-Fi Classics. All the movies in these collections are the ones I used to watch at the Tumbleweed Theater, the local walk-in, when I lived in El Monte. Yesterday I watched a double feature, The Wasp Woman, followed by Zontar, Thing From Venus. Always thought that the name Zontar in the title was the scariest thing about the last one.

Me, too.

Netflix (thankfully for my wallet) has somewhat curbed my DVD buying habits.

Today I added Phantasm III and a giallo I had been wanting for a long time, Lucio Fulci's Lizard in a Woman's Skin.

Shadowfyre - I bought LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN a month or two ago.  It was okay, but it definitely doesn't live up to all the hype . . . especially the "shocking" (???) scene with the dogs.

Maybe I'll wait a while before watching it then. I'll wait until I'm in a mood to watch anything.

Just picked up copies of the 1994 Captain America VHS and Happy Birthday To Me and April Fools Day on DVD.

if you ask me none of the gore in fulci's films is spectacular but when it came out it was a big deal, nowadays you see so much more extreme and realistic gore that it desensitizes you to stuff like fulci's work. you have to appreciate the time frame in which the movie was released. i mean people hear about these movies and are expecting something that doesnt necessarily  deliver but indeed it did for that time.

Your second and third are modern classics and a recommendation for any self-proclaimed bad movie lover's collection. That last one's hit or miss depending on where you stand with the individual movies (from best to worst: 3, 1, 4, 6, 5, 2) and I haven't seen the first one yet, but you can't go wrong with a Herve Villechaize movie, right?

In the last week I received by mail:
DEATHDREAM (aka DEAD OF NIGHT 1974) identified for me on this site, a true "grindhouse" 70s classic mixing scary horror, disturbing artistry, and social commentary.  As creepy and sad as I remembered with an absurdly perfect and stunning ending.   :thumbup:

SONG OF THE SOUTH (1946) unavailable stateside, I used my Bidnapper in an ebay auction to get it at the right price (too much!) but it's for my brother.  In a cheaply produced case with a nearly damp inkjet-like program inside, this transfer was definitely from a less than perfectly preserved film source, but it was all there in rich color with decent sound.  Not worth the bread and kind of boring, its hardly as offensive as one might expect, tame really, but we live in a strangely self conscious or guilty age.    :hot: 

NIGHTMARES FROM THE CRYPT, a cheapo dvd 20 movie collection that arrived today.  I went for this because it includes DEAD PEOPLE (aka MESSIAH OF EVIL).  All this talk of GRINDHOUSE features made me seek a few favorites (so many are unavailable) but 20 flix for the price?  How could I not?  I hope that one is a good copy, but this colleciton also includes HORROR HOTEL (aka CITY OF THE DEAD) MOON OF THE WOLF, SISTERS OF DEATH, DONINIQUE IS DEAD, DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE, CHRISTMAS EVIL, DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT, HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK, LADY FRANKENSTEIN, THE WEREWOLF AND THE VAMPIRE WOMAN...anybody familiar with any of these?  I've seen maybe two, plus there are a ton more all for $5.97 including shipping.

There was a 'Deluxe' letterboxed edition of HORROR HOTEL released a couple of years ago under the original title of CITY OF THE DEAD.
It sells for around ten bucks.

All Quiet On the Western Front
The Trial/Escape from Sobibor--Cheapo $1 DVD from the fine folks at Digiview!  The runtime for each of these films is listed incorrectly, and it mentions that The Trial is suitable for all ages even though it has some mild profanity, mature and strange subject matter/istuations, and it's damn confusing.  It's an awesome film, though.  Haven't watched the other one.

Sadly enough, I've got a desktop whose sole purpose if downloading torrents, then transfering the files onto an external hard drive that's completely dedicated to holding onto these files until I have the time to burn them to DVDs on my laptop... there's literally 120 movies on it right now and I'm dreading the day it finally fills up, because I'll have to buy another one... stupid evil obsessive compulsive movie collecting disorder....

I haven't bought much lately as Netflix recently added me as a beta-tester of their "watch now" program.  It allows users to watch movies instantly from netflix, streaming over the internet.  I just hook up the computer to my TV via S-Video and it's as good as a DVD for me.....minus the extra features.

Otherwise, I picked up that Phantasm sphere set which has yet to arrive.

i bought the two new Phantasm dvds last week. Skaboi do you mean theres a whole set of the movies i could have bought instead?!

I was at Best Buy and on an impulse (and due to Andrew's review of Day of the Animals) I got this:

It was a total steal for $14.99 (although it's even cheaper on some online sites).  These are the special edition DVD's, too.  Grizzly is 2 discs, Devil Dog is 2 discs, and Day of the Animals is the special edition.  It amuses me that this box is cheaper than any of those DVD's sell for individually.  I've come to love Media Blasters and I really want to get the post apocalyptic set and the Art of the Gun set.

Sort of.  It's a European set.  It has all of the Phantasm films and an additional DVD filled with special features.  All of the DVDs are housed inside a replica of one of the Tall Man's spheres.  The downside of the set is the price and the fact that you need an all region DVD player to play them.

I bought it because of the sphere and because it looks like we may never see Phantasm 2 on DVD here in the states.

Those are the SE editions in that set?  Curses, another DVD set that moves up higher on my priority list and I already have two out of the three movies...

I had the same impulse when I saw the Zombie sequels and Cannibal movies sets from Shriek Show. I'm all over this like moonshine on a redneck zombie!

oh i see. if there was enough of a reason id probably buy a european dvd player but are there any other movies that i cant get in United States that would make sense to do that?

I have no doubt that there are, but I'm at a loss to mention any at the moment.  If you don't have an all region player, you could always use your PC.  If you have a DVD drive then you can use a program like AnyDvd www.slysoft.com (http://www.slysoft.com) to make your computer look like an all region player.  It's what I used to do when importing films from Japan and such before buying an all region set top player.

The Philips DVP642 is what I have actually.  I converted it over to a all region player with a small code that I found online.  It's great!

thank you menard for pointing out that post. it seems i dont have a "hackable" dvd player at the moment but if i can find some non-USA movies im interested in enough ill be sure to look for such a model of player. unfortunately the computer im using is still running windows 1998 so i dont think its going to be good enough to support a dvd player anytime soon.

Put in a pre-order on that Pan's collectors disc.  I've been dying to see it for a while.  Picked up the Brotherhood Of Death disc after reading a review of it a while back and I needed a filler to get the free shipping.  Black guys get back from Vietnam and their town has been taken over by the KKK.  Ass kicking ensues.  Sounds good to me!

I also want to see "Pan's Labyrinth" and wow, that double feature disc looks like a must see.  Ah, you guys are always bad for my Amazon wish list...

I almost made it all the way through ATOMIC RULERS OF THE WORLD, one of those wretched Japanese Starman movies, but, well... it was one of those wretched Japanese Starman movies.

Stacy Keach, John Savage and Samantha Eggar in ALL THE KIND STRANGERS made for TV in 1974 is weird.  Consider that a recommendation.   :thumbup:
Tony Perkins and Julie Harris (not to mention Joan Hackett) in HOW AWFUL ABOUT ALLAN (1970) a family favorite with us, much better than ALL THE KIND STRANGERS, I have to strongly recommend HOW AWFUL ABOUT ALLAN!   :thumbup:

That's a lot of flix, I'd have to think about the rest whether or not I've even seen!  Hope you enjoy them all! 

For some reason I always liked Night Fright. It has a 50's monster movie vibe with a bunch of teens  that look like they're pushing 30, a monster on the loose, looks like a Larry Buchanan TV epic and it even has John Agar! Plus, a monster that is poorly lit (probably to hide the faults with the costume). Great stuff!

I seem to have vague memories of actually seeing HOW AWFUL ABOUT ALAN (or as much as I could sneak before my mom turned it off) when it played on network TV. Poor John Agar, married to Shirley Temple and acting alongside John Wayne and then starring in Larry Buchanan-ish films. No wonder he always seemed so p**sed off in these movies. At least he got a cameo in the '76 version of KING KONG.

RC, a while ago I watched the entire serial of THE PHANTOM CREEPS just to prove to myself I could do it! This is the 'feature film' version  which I've never seen. I'm looking forward to it! Anything with Bela is worth seeing.

I think this DR. MABUSE film is one of the German films from the early 60's. They made a bunch of new Mabuse films then. Lang actually directed one of them, but I don't know which one. For some reason that weird REVENGE OF DR. X with the Venus Flytrap monster always reminds me of THE MANSTER. I guess it's the Japanese setting and the fact everybody winds up falling into a volcano.

I wound up watching the Paul Naschy movie last night but fell asleep right after he killed his slutty wife and her boyfriend and then grabbed the electrical wires. Can you imagine what burning werewolf fur smells like? It seemed like the end but the movie's got about an hour to go. 

Recently picked up Godzilla Raids Again and Mothra vs. Godzilla.   This now means I only need five more to complete the series, and two of those are coming out in June (Invasion of the Astro Monster and Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster)

Got a gift card to Circuit City for my spawning day and decided on the DBZ set when I remembered how much I missed the old days of watching it at 5am in syndication before Cartoon Network got a hold of it. Uncut, widescreen, original Japanese language, 925 minutes of fun for just under $40. I'm a happy death god, and that's good for the rest of the world.  :teddyr:

THE NIGHT GOD SCREAMED is kinda blehhh...but AMERICAN GOTHIC!!! Now there's a movie! And Micheal J. Pollard plays a pint size psycho too!!!! :thumbup:

Most recent acquisition was Andre the Butcher, starring Ron Jeremy as some sort of satanic slasher with a scab fetish.  I'm about thirty minutes in and it's as good as it sounds...

Oh, I also recently acquired the Zombie Bloodbath Trilogy on DVD from Camp, though I didn't pay for it - well, unless you consider sitting through it payment.

I've not seen the "Tales of the Unexpected," but all of those others are good ones.  I really love the Lou Ferrigno "Hercules" flicks.  They are amazingly bad, but put forward with so much energy and in completely serious manner that you cannot help but to enjoy them.

Is that the same movie as BEWARE! THE BLOB aka SON OF THE BLOB?
It was directed by Larry Hagman and billed as "THE MOVIE J.R. SHOT!"

It has a truly odd cast, including Godfrey Cambridge (as the guy who brings The Blob back from the Artic),  Dick Van Patten, (the always beautiful) Carol Lyndley, Burgess Meredith, Cindy Williams, Bud Cort, Shelley Berman, and director Hagman as a drunk. Cambridge watches the original THE BLOB on TV before he gets eaten. It's supposed to be a comedy!

It's the only movie I've ever seen that features the infamous deadly '70s toy called "Clackers". My brother once threw a set of these at my head and they stuck in the wall.   :thumbup:


I've got that "Tales of the Unexpected" set, too. 'Royal Jelly' is one of the best episodes.

Yup Return and Son are the same Blob sequel....pure b movie goodness! :smile:

And Tales of the Unexpected was an fantastic british suspense series sort of the british equivalent to The Twilight Zone, they were based on short stories and ideas from Roald Dahl the fine fellow who  was responsible for the tale of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and other quirky childrens stories, but he also did adult stories that were suspenseful and macabre.

And yes in the first season Royal Jelly was very good! i also enjoyed Neck with Joan Collins and A Lamb to Slaughter.

Dang!  That and the Sinbad Susan mentioned... arrrrrgh....

That's the one.  Anything that gets him angry, he chucks into orbit.  Given enough time and frustration, Hercules could have made mankind's first spaceflights very dangerous.  What is the orbital decay rate of a bear carcass?  How about a tax collector?  Jar of pickles?

I've planning on getting Pan's Labyrinth on Tuesday.

Been wating ages to see this one.

Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain, which I've already seen, but who can pass up Jenna Jameson and cannibals?  Or just Jenna Jameson...  Or just cannibals...

Far and away the best cannibal chewing on an implant scene ever.  Hell, I thought they were real...

Also got Snakeman, apparently about some sort of snake man, and Attack of the Sabretooth, apparently the sequel to Sabretooth - unfortunately though, no Vanessa Angel this time around.

Conan: The Complete Quest - only wanted it for the first film and the extras. All the talk on here convinced me.

Ironside: Season One Volume One - I miss when channels like TV Land used to play oldies like this (or say stuff like Longstreet) before the really popular stuff took over the rerun/nostalgia TV circuit. Got to get in my quota of formulaic and overly dramatic cop shows.

IMDB say that Return of Dr. Mabuse is one of the non-Lang Mabuse films, this one starring Lex Barker and Gert Grobe. From the plot description, I think I saw it on America One once. Not as much fun as The Invisible Dr. Mabuse or the 60s version of The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, but still worth a look. I love the moments in these when Wolfgang Preiss as Mabuse reveals himself, so pulpy and melodramatic. I need to pick all of the films someday, the serious Lang ones and the pulpy later films.

Kill Cruise: starring Elizabeth Hurley haven't watched yet but might be good.

Never wanted to venture into these 50 packs and such for fear of quality of the transfers. So far they seem ok  for paying about $2.50 a movie.  :smile:

I don't mind scratches or damaged prints(i.e. best print found for these old/obscure/weird movies) but do a s**tty transfer (or from tape, unless thats the only source) and I no likey.

Picked up the latest Masters of Horror entry Right to Die.  Damn this collection is getting expensive...

One day at Wal-Fart, my girlfriend decided she was tired of my crapfest films and wanted to buy some cheap thrillers. A dollar a movie--What the heck?

Someone Is Watching was one of those films. She walked out halfway through. I was glued to the screen. Awful, terrible, overwrought, just plain stupid and inept. Loved it so much that I kept my girlfriend from throwing it away and stashed it in my collection. "If you watch that again, you watch it alone," she told me.

Heh, heh.  I always do, honey, so what's another crap film on the pile?

I've seen about 5 or so of these 50 pack collections at Best Buy for quite some time.  Haven't ventured forth getting them as I've gotten burned buying similar type packs before from Brentwood Entertainment.

Today my Puppet Master Box set arrived. Yay!

Enjoy that one.  I really like the first two films and appreciate what they tried to do with the third (though it seemed to miss for me).  After that, things get silly.  You know, because killer puppets fighting Nazis is serious.  Still, I think that the box set is worth it.

Both my "Charles Band Collection 1" and "Full Moon Classics Vol 1" arrived.  I already need to do a short write-up for "Shadowzone" in the Bad Movies section.

I've only ever gotten the Mill Creek 20-packs -- Haven't seen their 50-packs sold out here --
The discs all seem to play just fine with no glitches, but as others have observed here, sometimes the film they're transfering from is so cut up/scratched/jumpy & just plain crappy in the first place as to be almost unwatchable, though this varies a lot from film to film.
I'd say go for it -- You can always trade it in later at your local DVD/CD swap-shop.

An experimental film about a bed that...well...eats. It's favorite dishes include apples, fried chicken, and people. A strange film, but if you've ever wanted to see a bed down a 16oz bottle of pepto bismol then this is your film.

Picked up 3 vhs tapes for $2.00 apiece at the Busy Bee Flea Market today....ROMPER STOMPER-with Russel Crowe:never seen it;CITIZEN X-true story about the serial killer Andrea Chikalito who killed and cannibalized children in Russia-seen it before...and it was MUCH better than SILENCE of the LAMBS; and that old stanby ,Mario Bava's HATCHET for the HONEYMOON-saw it,loaned it out,never got it back,bought it again! Great flik!

Good call on Q, Centepede Horror and Uzumaki.  Q is classic, Centepede is fun as hell insect carnage and Uzumaki.....well...it's Uzumaki.  Very strange film.

Cruised by Best Buy today and picked up the Paul Naschy combo with The Night of the Werewolf and Vengeance of the Zombies.

Q is great not only because of Michael Moriarty, Richard Roundtree, David Carradine and Larry Cohen, but Blue Underground's always great when it comes to spicing up their discs with extra material! I used to have a friend who reviewed material for Joe Bob Briggs and William Lustig and BU dumped free discs on her all the time. She passed some of the overflow on to me for Christmas one year and, aside from the great conversation and eye candy she provided, I miss the free movies too. Heh heh. I wonder whatever happened to her... oh yeah, and any reviewer who's ever tried to fill out their archives with a movie from every letter of the alphabet can tell you that Q is a requirement.

Centipede Horror I haven't watched yet. I'm putting it off until sometime during the summer so I can do a double-feature between that and the big bug movie Centipede. Anyone with any opinions on that one? I was going to rent it from Blockbuster, but it looks like somebody in the neighborhood with a feitsh for insects baring 100 legs walked off with it...

As for Uzumaki, I've said before and I'll say it again: anybody who loved the movie needs to hunt down the manga trades from Viz. If I could only use three words to review it, they'd be "f*cking horror masterpiece".

Yeah, I'm a big fan of what Lustig has done with Blue Underground.  They've brought back some classics, and have done so in an amazing way.   The quality of their discs is superb. 

The highlight of their collection for me is the double disc of Dead And Buried.  It's absolutely gorgeous and packed to the brim with special features.

As for the manga for Uzumaki, I'll have to pick that up at some point.  I knew it was based on a manga but have never searched it out.  Thanks for the recommendation!

Well, I'm disappointed and pleased at the same time.

A lot of them(if not all) are taken off tapes. You can see the horizontal drops and static lines moving around that tapes get. Compression/transfers are pretty low it seems. Some  are more noticeable than others and artifacts get bad sometimes.

A lot of the movies are from the 30's-50's and I think in those times most films were composed for 3:4 or something close. But some are horribly cropped, the one really p**sing me off being 'Monster from a Prehistoric Planet'. I didn't know there was a Japper monster movie in it so even with its horrid cropping I was pleasantly surprised. :tongueout:


Even with all those negatives I'd say it's worth it. Most of these movies I'd probably never have bought individually and quite a few are starring Bella and I've seen close to zero of his films so it's fun seeing his stuff.

If you can get over the quality and bad cropping these sets seem to be fun. Just know what your getting into and keep telling yourself its only a few bucks a flick.  :smile:



And Q is great. I think I have all the Larry Cohen Blue Undergrounds. Bone is some funky stuff, it just ramps up the weird slowly. Not super odd but theres definitely some wtf s**t going on.

Woohoo, I got Prophecy (the mutated bear one) off Amazon.com. It should arrive in the mail soon.

Yaddo- the MAGIG SWORD/KING ARTHUR...I bought the same one at DOLLAR GENERAL..Tara Sue has watched it untill  it nearly drove me nuts! :thumbup:

It's the sort of sequel to Suspiria.

It's like that film , with even less plot coherency (if that's possible).

 A beautiful film to look at.  Keith Emerson did the music instead of Goblin.

As a once a future prog-rock fan, Emerson doing the music should appeal to me, but after seeing part of the film it doesn't. Emerson's musical score isn't as distracting as the one he did for Nighthawks, but I still didn't care for what I heard.

I seem to have bad luck or poor choices of Argento flicks to work with. I've have little chance to see his best regarded stuff.

Another of my recent acquisitions is the Full Moon Classics Vol 1, which does have "Bad Channels" in there.  That finally replaced my ages old LD of the film.  I do see what you mean, with the strange tie-in that they made between Dollman and the one girl who is left miniaturized. 

I so want that Jodorowsky Boxed Set.

And I backpedal on my buy fewer DVDs plan, I picked up The Venture Borthers Season Two the other day. I watched the first two episodes, well worth the wait. I laughed and laughed, and thought I was going to hurt myself when the Monarch's two henchmen were singing Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War" as they met up. That show does a perfect job of satirizing genre shows, movies, comics, and fanboys. When a show can have you in stiches and saying "Ouch! That hits close to home." at the same time that's great writing.

That's ok. I'm fuming over all the money I put out on individual Dragonball Z discs in order to get the whole series, only to recently learn that the series is now being put out in "season" sets. :hatred:

On the bright side, I think they reformatted them into widescreen, so at least yours are in the proper format...

He gets his ass beat,has flashbacks,his buddy OD's,and eventually he goes off the deep end. But words can't descripe how...unclean...this movie feels. Bizzare!

Just got Basket Case (the 20th Anniversary Edition), Brain Damage (big Henenlotter fan), and American Gothic. Anyone else see American Gothic? It's bloody awful, but for some reason I friggin' love it. The rope swing scene is priceless.

Anything with Rod Stiger, Micheal J. Pollard and Yvonne De Carlo is A-ok,in my book! I enjoyed it alot! :thumbup:

Oh, Man. That Aztec mummy is kickin' my butt. I'm 0 for 3 for staying awake through the first one past the loooong human sacrifice/dance number. I admire the makers for adding that "Bat" character to the mix.

I'm trying THE ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY now only to find it's made up mostly of clips from the first one, including that sacrifice scene! Curse you Popoca, or whatever the hell your name is! I have to give them credit; that is a pretty creepy looking mummy, from what I've seen of it. But why is it afraid of a crucifix, like a vampire? Maybe they'll explain that in another flashback.

Funny, all those Lon Chaney, Jr. mummy movies from the 40's used the same formula, namely they were largely made up of 'flashbacks' (old footage) from all the other mummy movies.

I remember watching "Wrestling Women Versus The Aztec Mummy" with some of my students a few years back.  A clean, campy classic!

Boy, that is one stupid looking robot.


EDIT: The Aztec mummy just kicked his ass. Good riddance!

I dearly love those Fleischer Popeye cartoons.

I was very happy to see they are finally getting a proper collected release, rather than a few bad random prints showing up on Public Domain  "KARTOON KLASSICS" discs.

Remember the AWFUL Popeye movie with Robin Williams?  I saw that when I was like, 14 or so and loved it.  As an adult I could never find it in any of the video stores, and finally a couple or three years ago our local Hasting's got a copy.  My wife and I (she watched it with me in 8th grade) watched it again and could not BELIEVE how truly awful it actually was!  A real classic of BAD cinema!

Just got Ren & Stimpy's Lost Episodes. Real twisted stuff, but some of the funniest R&S moments ever. There are only six episodes on two discs so think about it before you drop more than $20 New on it. It was at Best Buy for $25, but I had a gift card. I'd order it or something along those lines. I wouldn't have paid any more that $20 of my own money on it.

It was a gift from Todd.  He found it at an art gallery showing in New York.  An independent artist created it and had a limited run of high quality prints made.  Todd knew I would love it because the two of us will happily bash each other for hours.

Hmmm, I gotta track this artist guy down and see if he's got any other interesting prints for sale. Hopefully he's one of those starving artist types who don't think their stuff is worthy of masterpiece prices, heh heh.

War of the Monsters...Forgot about that game, I should pic it up. Another movie related game you should treat yourself too is The Warriors. just got it and it's excellent. The ambient music in the game I really like too. Good to know theres other gamers on here. :)

Oh yeah, loved The Warriors on XBox! I was afraid it'd be shallow like State of Emergency but lucked out and actually got a really fun brawler title like the last Final Fight game should have been. The game was better than the movie it was based on because it had more of what the movie lacked: gangs of colorful characters beating the snot out of each other.

I just bought the Crispin Glover version of Crime And Punishment and was wild with rage that it won't play in my player for some dang reason. 

I also got hold of The Conqueror.  You haven't known tru pain until you've seen it.  Might make a great double feature with Roller Blade.

I picked up a couple DVD's from Andrew.  Crash and Burn is an old favorite, and it lived up to my memories of it pretty well.  Shadowzone I'd never seen before, I don't know, it failed to capture my interest very much.  Sort of Alien meets The Thing, with a budget that wouldn't cover the catering on either of those movies.  Didn't really care too much about the characters - the main guy was generic and bereft of personality, then there was some old bag, a crazy woman and crazy guy, and the mad scientist.  Scientist dude was okay but got killed off early.  There was one hot female scientist, but she too met with an early demise.  Of course there was the naked babe who just laid there in her sleep capsule for most of the movie.  The special effects were pretty silly, but there was one great scene with a monkey.

"You did?  But the monkey is over here."
"It's over there?  Well then what is this...AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!"

I thought that "Shadowzone" was much better than it had any right to be.  The fact that they constantly hid the monster from you was a high point.  All too often, movies put the monster in plain sight, when they should have managed its appearances.

Some of SWV stuff is in pretty rough shape, now the Image Releases aren't to bad, often the best print available but not always. Some the DVD-R stuff they release is scratchy, dusty etc, but it might be the only know print too. So it's the best you can get even if it's rough. Being that most of there stuff is grindhouse and low budget fare, not a likely candidate for expensive restoration.
I enjoy them, I'd say the quality over all is far better than the stuff you get in the 50 movie mega packs, but by no means perfect.

Cruised by Suncoast today and got Satrun 3 and 80's slasher The Final Terror off their cheapie rack.

I thought Suncoast went out of business? Anyway, the latest addition to my movie collection isn't a DVD, it's a VHS, but that's only because the DVD companies, in their infinite wisdom, have not yet seen fit to release If Looks Could Kill on DVD.

Suncoast/Sam Goodie/On Cue I don't know if they are all the same company, but I believe they all filed bankruptcy a few years ago and closed a lot of store and restructured their operation. Just like Hollyweird and Music Industry they blamed illegal downloads over poor business management on their decline.

Wouldn't have nothing to do with the fact they charge twice as much as nearly everyone else for retail Cd's and DVD's?   

In one town we had a Suncoast and another a Sam Goodie and another a On Cue and within a few months of each other they were all closed and sold out to the walls, fixtures and all. It's only time I got a decent price at any of those stores.

Yeah, a few years back I used to frequent Suncoast quite a bit and even joined their program that awards you points for dollars spent and then gives you a certificate after so many points accrued. Then they just didn't bother to compete pricewise and I stopped going there. I only pop in now and then when in the area. In fact, it had been so long since I was in one that my membership in that points program had expired. I told the clerk to not even bother renewing it.

Yea I used to buy things from them a lot.  Wow looking back that was a mistake.  I stopped buying from them once I was able to buy things only and now I end up buying most of my movies on half.com for new for like a fraction of the price. 

I picked up some used DVD's of The Proposition  (a 2005 Western of sorts set in Australia starring Guy Pearce that's most excellent),  Pan's Labyrinth  (pure genius) and Night Watch (interesting Russian horror movie) for only 16 dollars.

Mel Brooks "worst movie" which just happens to be my favorite yet, even though I haven't seen the ending (hey, Young Frankenstein is wearing off on me after all those childhood viewings :smile:) DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT. Finally, the "old" kind of bad movie, that is actually very good, but is valid for this site anyway for sheer cult love: THE OLD DARK HOUSE (1932)... with ACTRESS COMMENTARY by GLORIA STUART of Titanic Fame! :hot: I LOVE when things work out like that! :teddyr:

I got to see this last weekend at a friend's house and while not a great movie by any means, it also wasn't quite the disaster that I thought it would be as well.  It's got some quirky charms and Nicholas Cage's performance is endearingly odd.

Picked up Don't Torture a Duckling and Inferno.

God damn, I loved that movie.  Stuart Gordon has made some really strange moves toward the mainstream lately.  This one was still low-budget, but it was a far cry from the material he's best known for.  Edmond moved him that much closer.

I just picked up the Dragon Dynasty release of Hard Boiled.  It's pretty hot.

Yeah, and the Weinstein Company screwed up the transer on it as well. They cropped the picture and then stretched back out the image so that it looks like everyone in the movie has put on at least 50 pounds.

They also used DUBTITLES instead of subtitles which is a huge no no for foreign films.

I had bought Richard Stanley's HARDWARE a while back...just got done watching it....wow. Whatta trippy movie! If you haven't seen it,I highly recommend it! I'ts got cool music (by NIN and Motorhead!) a cool killer robot,and Iggy Pop as an unseen DJ! And a wild psychedelic death scene! Weird!  :thumbup:

Went to the new best buy in the area to pick up Hot Fuzz...which they didn't have.  That's another story for another post.  Anyway, I looked around and found this set for about 14.00!  I originally picked it up only because it has The Being which is a film I haven't watched in years.  I still have an old ThornEMI VHS release around here somewhere.

Didn't realize till I got in the car that The Dark and Creatures From The Abyss are included.  I've always wanted to check out The Dark and Creatures looks fantastically silly if Andrew's review is any indication of it's quality.

I'm quite happy with the Martial Arts 50 Movie Pack, and look forward to picking up others sometime soon. As long as you don't expect world-class quality, they're well worth the price.

On the way home from work Tuesday I picked up The 300, so far I've watched 3 times, even my wife likes it. It's not very historically accurate, but the fact that the story is being told by one Spartan warrior to the Spartan Army just before the battle of Platea explains why there are embellishments. When I'm done here I'll probably watch it again.

I picked these up today for 21 dollars. Apparently the Flesh Feast DVD isnt availible anymore on amazon.

Enjoying the dickens out of my Fleischer Popeye collection. The very early ones are great, but the series really kick into high gear once the voice combination of Jack Mercer (Popeye), Mae Questel (OLive Oyl), and Gus Wickie (Bluto) solidifies around the twentieth cartoon. After years of scratched, dupped prints the remastered versions of the two-reel Technicolor films like Popeye Meets Sinbad the Sailor are a revelation. They actually look better than anything Disney (or anybody else) was producing at the time.

FUN FACT: When Mercer was serving in WWII the voice of Popeye was provided by... Mae Questel!

The Tick vs. Season Two.

I'm peeved yet again that Buenva Vista left off another episode off of the Season 2 set. Episode 15 "Alone Together" is nowhere to be found but in their defense they do list on the package that that episode isn't included.

They left off the Mole Men episode off of Season 1 for "legal issues" which wasn't that huge of a loss as it's probably the weakest episode of the 3 season run of the show.

But the Alone Together episode is funny as hell. Kind of a Fantastic Four spoof. I guess I shouldn't complain too much as at least they're releasing them on DVD in some form.  I wish that they would spend more restoration money though so that the colors didn't look so washed out at times.

My copy of Attack of the Crab Monsters finally arrived today and I just got done watching it. I thought it was pretty good!

That's one of my favorite Corman 50's classics. I happened to watch NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST again the other night and was surprised to see another Corman creature who could talk in a person's voice after eating their head. That monster also lays eggs inside of one of our astronauts. The monster babies (as revealed by x-rays) look just like cartoon sea-monkeys.

I got my hot-off-the-press NIGHT SCREAMS 50 MOVIE PACK... and it's missing disc #4!  :hatred:

That would only be mildly annoying, but its the disc with CARNAGE, about the only existing Andy Milligan film I haven't seen. It's the main reason I bought the collection in the first place.

On the other hand, I did get two great double features:

Blew the $50 my grandparents sent me for my birthday on two DVDs at Best Buy: the new Darkman Trilogy set and the Anchor Bay Re-Animator release. Y'know, the one with a pen shaped like a syringe? I already have the Millennium Edition, but the box art for this release, plus the promise of the pen shaped like a syringe, was just too much.

Just bought  KANSAS  CITY CONFIDENTIAL with Lee Van Cleef and TEN FINGERS of DEATH with Jackie Chan...yet to watch them,though.

I have not seen Food of the Gods since time out of mind.  I remember hearing about the sequel when I was a kid, getting all excited, then seeing the trailer on a VHS my parents rented and thinking, "Dear god, it's Night of the Lepus all over again." 

Ah, but now that you've reminded me that that movie exists, I need to pick it up. 

The DVD is one of MGM's "Midnight Movies" and it is being released tomorrow.  I haven't seen that film in a long, long time; so I'm looking forward to it as well.

From Beyond  (unrated director's cut)


The reinstated footage is seamlessly edited back into the movie and since they didn't have an original negative of the snipped gore/violence, they had to use a work print to put the stuff back in.  You only notice an ever so slight shift in color/flesh tones when the reinstated footage is shown.  The extras are great and the director/producer/cast commentary track is a hoot and very informative.     :thumbup: :thumbup:

I have pretty much given up on Best Buy. They never seem to have the new releases that I'm looking for.

I picked up the Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection Volume 2 at Best Buy yesterday (which is already selling for higher prices on eBay 'cause Best Buy doesn't offer it on their own site for some stupid reason).  I too was sad that they had absolutely NOTHING in stock from the Midnight Movie sets, and they didn't have the Vincent Price box set, the Fly set, or anything else interesting.  I can't believe how Best Buy used to have one of the biggest and oddest assortments of movies I'd seen, and now they barely have anything besides standard fare.

Yep, couldn't find The Fly box set either. I guess they had to save room for those 50 copies of I, Robot.

Regardless, I went back, and also got that Sci Fi collection, as well as Blue Water, White Death and that "Mutant Monsters" triple pack.

Odd thing today, I stopped by my local Best Buy to purchase this set and someone had come in and bought every single copy.  Talking to them, it was one guy who bought them all - like 20 or 30 copies.  The space on the shelf for it was bare, a good 2 feet long or more, and completely empty.  I spoke to them about it, because isn't that bad to let a customer walk in and buy every single copy of a new (limited release), thus screwing all of your other customers?  I caught on another forum earlier, a DVD one I think, that this happened a few other places.  Someone bought every single copy of this DVD set.  I wish I could find that thread now.

Most of the Midnight Movies that I ordered arrived today.  I do appreciate Amazon.com at times.

The Burning.      Tom Savini gore!   :tongueout:  The MGM DVD is the widescreen uncut version even though it's listed as rated R on the back.  Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter had their debuts in this 1981 slasher flick.  It's weird seeing "George" with a full head of hair even though he was apparently starting to bald in his early 20's.  The on set footage featurette showing Tom Savini doing his gore effects thing is great as is the commentary track with the director.  Bob Weinstein wrote this as well which I didn't realize.

Just got yet another Mills Creek 50 movie pack: Decrepit Crypt of Nightmares.

These are all ultra low budget/no budget backyard-produced Pendulum Pictures releases from the past few years with titles like I DREAM OF DRACULA, PREHISTORIC BIMBOS IN ARMAGEDDON CITY, and, my personal favorite, I HATE YOU.

I've sampled a few scenes and from what I've seen so far these make Polonia Brothers movies look like the latest Spielberg epic. Seriously. Ten minutes of DEMON SLAUGHTER made me pine for the slick professionalism of SON OF INGAGI.

If I can make it through even half of these, I will feel like I have earned my PhD in Badmovieology. I wonder if I'll be able to write prescriptions?

Not recommended for beginners or the faint-of-heart.

It does give hope to all you amateur film makers out there. Maybe Pendulum Pictures will buy your movie and put it on the next edition of Decrepit Crypt of Nightmares!  :teddyr:

Was at Wal-Mart today so I snagged Jeepers Creepers (hence my use of the screenshot from the film in the picture war) and Star Wars: A New Hope, the latter of which I hadn't seen in widescreen since the '97 Special Editions.

I'd say shame on me for waiting to grab the DVD for this long, but let's face it, prior to these discs all there was was the boxed set containing the second, just-for-DVD re-edit(s) of the films, where they tinkered with them even more than the '97 versions. These discs do contain those versions, too, but they also have the original, un-edited theatrical/home video versions, which is good.

Jeepers Creepers, meanwhile, is one I've been meaning to pick up for a while, ever since I saw it on TV and was impressed with it immensely. While at the checkout, the cashier lady even commented on how she'd liked it a lot when she saw it for the first time, and said something along the lines of how until Jeepers Creepers, she'd thought they'd quit making good horror movies.  :bouncegiggle:

Found this for about 5 bucks, brand new.  It has Klaus Kinski playing twins, one insane, one a victim, and it's loaded with extras.  It has two versions of the film, commentary, a promo show, picture galleries, and a couple other things I think.  I haven't seen it but it sounded pretty fun.  Anyone watch this before?

I thought Jeepers Creepers was an okay flick, but a bit generic "monster movie" for my tastes.

My daddy found two St. Clair Entertainment packs at a yard sale yesterday, a "Fright Night" 3 DVD set with 3 Prices, 2 Lugosis (Including a condensed The Phantom Creeps), 1 Chaney Jr., a somewhat-decent transfer of the original Little Shop of Horrors, the famous Carnival of Souls, something called Nightmare castle, and maybe a few more. The second is a "Giant Monster" 3-DVD pack comprised mostly of old Gamera (missing only Guiron and Zigra), as well as The Giant Gila Monster, Warning from Space (I think), and Yonggary.

The cases for these DVDs can be really frustrating at times, the discs overlap, making the 3rd impossible to remove without taking out the second, which in this case is really hard to get out without making usettling "C-RACK"-ing sounds. As for the presentation, I find "best possible quality" to be a large exaggeration, but it's acceptable, 'tis a better presentation of Little Shop than I did have (And still have, for the double feature with a very skippy The Terror"), and the others are just as acceptable. The menus are pretty good, with parts of the soundtrack playing over each. All the disks have nifty featurettes on them which make for a quick distraction, though I haven't checked them all out yet.

He also found the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I'm not as interested there.

Speaking of Yongary, there's a really cool article about that movie at Sci-Fi Japan.  One of the new MGM Midnight Movies DVDs features it, and it's a nice cleaned up widescreen print.  What's interesting is that apparently there aren't any of the original Korean prints in existance.

MUIR or MYSTERIOUS ISLAND... 'course we can live without Wagner, but not without Herrmann's vision of Wagner (VERTIGO)... damn, I love that man's music.  I'm putting on TAXI DRIVER right now...

I've very happy to say that after a couple of long dry years with very little new recordings of Herrmann's music we're about to be served a smorgasborg, including the release next month of the brand spanking new complete recording of MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. New, complete recordings of FARHENHEIT 451, 'Walking Distance' from The Twilight Zone, THE KENTUCKIAN, and WILLIAMSBURG: A PORTRAIT OF A PATRIOT (which he scored for the Williamsburg Historical Society in exchange for a piece of glass for an antique bookcase  :smile: ) are due out over the next few months. All are being recorded by theose patron saints of classic film music, John Morgan and Bill Stromberg.

In addition to the documentary, HANGOVER SQUARE (1945) is finally being released on DVD next month. It's all about insane composer Harvey Bone (Laird Cregar) and his piano concerto... music by Bernard Herrmann, naturally. 

I've posted this before, but here's a nifty preview. Stromberg conducting a rehearsal of "The Balloon" from MYSTERIOUS ISLAND. I love it when the camera pans across the orchestra to reveal four harps. Of course, Herrmann used nine harps for BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF!

I watched it earlier today (er, I guess it would be yesterday, now), and it was pretty entertaining.  I didn't watch The Bloody Dead, rather the original version Creature with the Blue Hand.  It's a murder mystery that gets pretty convoluted and it's sometime cheesy of course, but I liked it.  Kisnki plays twin brothers named David and Richard.  David escapes from a prison or asylum of some sort early in the film (thanks to a mysterious figure who gives him a key), and flees to his family's estate.  David was convicted of murder but claimed he was innocent.  From there various people are murdered by the Blue Hand, a hooded figure who uses a sort of gauntlet with metal blades that pop out.  I don't want to give away much but it goes back and forth between various people who become suspects.

There's a great and silly moment at the asylum where you get to see a few of the crazies.  One is a woman who was a striptease dancer and strips all day long, another a woman who regularly re-enacts the murder of her infant by using a doll.  Another funny bit involves a parrot who laughs when one fellow is stabbed.  The film also has a funky jazzy score that's pretty cool but sorta out of place at times.

The Bloody Dead is a recut version with new scenes (filmed in the 80's) that basically add extra blood 'n' guts.  I haven't watched that version yet but I'm sure it doesn't work as well.  By the way, the picture quality is pretty bad, and it's full screen, but I'd recommend buying it if one can find it cheap.

Well, that clip was a treat for me; I have the original soundtrack recording for MYSTERIOUS ISLAND... Is it true that HERRMANN won the Academy Award only once for THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER?  How many times was he nominated?  It is only of historical interest to me, 'cause I tend to be skeptical about awards.  My quick research yielded unclear results.   :thumbup:

I believe Herrmann was only nominated five times: 1941 (CITIZEN KANE & THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER), 1946 (ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM), and posthumously in 1976 (TAXI DRIVER & OBSESSION). His infamously abrasive personality, particularly with studio execs and most other film composers, probably contributed to him being largely snubbed by the Academy.

I think Vault of Horror had a prior DVD release, because I remember asking myself, "How the Hell did the lesser known title get a release and not Tales From the Friggin' Crypt?!". Tales is one of my favorite anthology films of all time.  I haven't seen Vault Of Horror in a loooong time but I do recall liking it for the most part.  I'll be picking up that DVD release very soon.

On an unrelated subject - Deadly Friend now has a DVD release.  I will certainly be ordering that very soon as well as the robot portions of the film scared the crap out of me when I was younger.

I need to see Deadly Friend in order to excise the fragments of the theme song stuck in my head.

Man, that is a killer music haul.  I have Group Sex on a CD re-release and it's awesome.  Circle Jerks are one of those bands that seem to encompass an entire era in their music.  When I think 80s punk, I think Circle Jerks.

Silent Night, Bloody Night is a favorite of mine.   I picked up a copy of it in a DVD set for about .50 cents or so.  There is a lot of strangeness contained within the film, and I love the twist that they unveil towards the end.  Very underrated and overlooked slasher.

 I watched the SILENT NIGHT,BLOODY NIGHT late last night...and it was defintly NOT what I expected! Thinking I had bought a standerd low budget slasher flik, I discovered a early'70's weird-ass film...full of bizzare twists and haunting madhouse scenes done in sepia tones...and the first killing came as a nice bloody surprize! A good movie-that is well worth more than a single veiwing!  :thumbup:

The YONGARY/KONGA double feature disc from MGM arrived today.

KONGA is a terrible little film and I doubt that side of the dual sided/single layered flipper will be getting much use - as others around the web have stated, this is exactly the same as the individual release of KONGA a while back.

As for YONGARY - the menu design is atrocious and, aside from a variety of dub and subtitle options (the original Korean audio is apparently lost), the disc is bare bones.  But the print, my god, the print!  The new 2.35:1 transfer is utterly fantastic - with strong colors and contrast and little, if any, damage.

After the disappointment of the new PLANET OF DINOSAURS disc, this one is a real pick-me-up.

Best Buy had a TON of these.  I might hang onto it and wait to sell it on eBay, unless someone convinces me that these films are totally worth watching.  At first I was hoping that The Black Cat was the one with Lugosi and Karloff.  It does have Lugosi, but it's a 1941 film with Basil Rothbone in it.  They all sound kind of interesting though.

  MAN MADE MONSTER is an EXCELLENT movie! Lionel Atwill and Lon Chaney Jr! If I made a top 5 list of Chaney Jr. films...this would be on it!!! I'd buy it for that film alone!  :thumbup: It was made right after Lon appeared in ONE MILLION BC and OF MICE AND MEN...and before the WOLFMAN.

The latter I can highly recommend for anyone who likes horror + Shaw brothers...  and who doesn't?

"Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires" is almost a given to be good, since they mixed a Hammer vampire film with a Shaw Brothers kung fu flick.  I like that one a lot.  There was more than one DVD release of that film, if memory serves.  Which one did you get?

Where did you get that set at for that price?  I saw the 2-pack at WalMart but it was 24.00 or so.  I'd certainly pick up the set for 14.00!

I got it at a Wal-Mart up the road from my house.  They must've had it priced wrong in the system as a friend of mine went up the following day and they had it at 23.99. 

They do that a lot at this particular one.  They had the individual DVD of part 2 for 14.99 and my guess is that someone entered in the 2 pack at that price incorrectly before they had put them out.

I got the good version I believe..! It's "the official Anchor Bay release" uncut 89min and it includes an alternate cut-down and horrid version called "The Seven Brothers Meet Dracula"(75min),
PLUS a bone chilling telling of the story by Peter Cushing with sound effects!!
(I imagine, PERFECT for putting the kids to sleep!  ..in every sense of the word.. )

Actually, I think they do that on occasion at EVERY Wal-Mart.  I remember getting Dave Chappelle Second Two for like I think $19.99 when it was supposed to be like $29.99 (it had just been released a few days ago.)

That is the same one I have and, to my knowledge, it is the best DVD release of the movie.

Just bought Driller Killer, Cleopatra Jones and The Entity all for the smash down price of A$6 the lot.  Needless to say, I don't really mind if they end up being terrible, I can wear that cost!  :thumbup:

just picked up howard the duck on vhs and traces of death part 3. went to a haunted house and found them at a booth they had outside of it. as i'm sure you all know howard the duck is awesome. traces of death however dissapointed the hell out of me.  i have like 3 or 4 faces of death and none of them are that good. i always heard traces was like the gruesome "real thing" i found it cheesy an boring.

 The SHOOTING is a weird western! I bought it on a used vhs tape,because it had  Jack Nicholson in it. It was directed by Monte (TWO LANE BLACKTOP) Hellman!

 DETROIT 9000 is an ok 70's blaxpliotation crime drama...nothing really to make it stand out from the crowd.

CHOPPING MALL and DOG DAY AFTERNOON. I'm surprised at how many supplements Chopping Mall had, Image entertainment put just about that many features in ALONE IN THE DARK '82 and called it a dang special edition!

Andrew, the breast count is off! Umm, not that my mommy and daddy won't let me watch movies with too many boobies or anything... I'm just, you know, umm... wodest-um-modest!

From what I've gathered from reviews, the DVD is quite nice in terms of picture quality and is anamorphic widescreen as well.

I actually didn't think that the Savini remake of NOTLD was all that bad. It didn't hurt that Patricia Tallman was quite easy on the eyes either.  This movie got cut to hell for the R rating as at the tale end of the 80's and start of the 90's the MPAA was really cracking down on horror movies in particular.

I would go ahead and get the Stanley Kubrick box set. The extras are plentiful and very informative and finally having these 5 movies in anamoprhic widescreen is too cool.

As part of my continuing quest to see/own all of Curtis Harrington's films I got How Awful About Allan.

Dr. Strangelove was financed and distributed by Columbia pictures.  They own the rights to it. There's already a fantastic 2 disc 40th anniversary set that came out back in 2004.

The ones in the box set were done by Warner Brothers.

From what I've read about the film, the people who made it seemed to have no clue what a manticore actually is. Apperantly, the film also sucks long and hard. I picked up Robocop's 2 & 3, and Hell is for Heroes in the $5 bin at WalMart.

Picked up 5ive Girls, it was actually pretty good.  Sounded really sleazy from the trailer, but I bought it anyway  :teddyr: 

 Does the Bava collection have KILL BABY KILL? aka CURSE of the LIVING DEAD? If so...WATCH IT! One of the BEST ghost stories ever filmed. A classic...and should be as highly acclaimed as BLACK SUNDAY, as far as I'm concerned.  :thumbup:

CANNIBAL FEROX-if this is the dubbed version...how many movies use the word c*nt? This one does. I don't know what I ean by that...but it is what stands out for me. Oh yeah...it's a gory mess too... :buggedout:

Ordered Kraken:  Tentacles of the Deep and Peter Benchley's Creature a couple days ago.  What can I say?  One eventually works their way down to items #41 and 42 on the wish list.  Kraken is pretty awful, but the babes alone are worth it.  Creature is bad as well, but I figured that it might be improved somewhat with the omission of the 80 minutes of commercials that the Sci-Fi Channel includes every time they air it.  Or maybe it's just the movie itself that makes it seem to go on forever?  I will find out soon I guess.

Decided against my better judgment to pick up The Departed.  It was only $9.

I hate the way movie companies are now boxing 2 or 3 titles together in the one......um........box   :question:

Sometimes the titles are only vaguely related to each other eg genres lumped in together or an actor who is common to all movies, whether he is the star or not.  I don't normally buy DVDs like that, but yesterday I bought Zoolander/Wedding Crashers.  It took me a long time to find the humour in Zoolander (not really a Ben Stiller fan) and it seemed like a documentary on the fashion industry to me  *lol*  But I had a hankering to watch it, God know's why.

I hadn't seen Wedding Crashers before this, but I quite enjoyed it.  Would never have bought it on its own and not sure if I'll watch it ever again, but the set only cost me $12, so I thought what the heck.

just got heartland horrors-season 1,excellent!!i am a total fiend for anthologies,especially horror,and this is a definite diamond in the rough!now,to figure out how to get my cable company to carry all the cool horror channels....

Feeling the mood for bad lake monster movies, I ordered Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds and The Crater Lake Monster.  The former I've seen, and it's more about nostalgia, but the latter I haven't and heard it's actually quite awful. 

I guess we'll see how awful.

Awaiting the two Mr. Moto collections I got throught that recent Deep Discount DVD two-for-one box set sale. For some reason I'm on a Peter Lorre kick lately you can't imagine.

Also the third collection of the early 50's sci-fi anthology Tales of Tomorrow. I had a great time with the first two sets. The kinescoped episodes offer a fascinating look at primitive TV, with imaginative (if budget-minded) stories and guest stars like Boris Karloff, Burgess Meredith, Leslie Nielsen, and James Dean.

raffine,have you seen scifi theater?or karloff's thriller theater?2 of my big faves and they go with my tales of tomorrow collection quite well,i think!

316zombie, yep, both of those are great series! I have collections of both on 'gray' market DVDs. Nobody seems too inspired to release 'legit' versions so I feel no guilt or shame.  :smile: I think Thriller was by far the best horror program ever produced - many of the episodes are still really frightening.

I also have a collection of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (again: no legit release in sight). It's very different from Alfred Hitchcock Presents since it focus more on horror stories like Robert Bloch's The Jar than the often tongue-in-cheek crime stories in the half hour series. I think Hitch was competing with Thriller, which I believe aired at about the same time.

• Death Row - Fun B movie about teenagers and convicts trapped in a haunted prison.  In fact, it's also known as Haunted Prison.
• Jolly Roger:  Massacre at Cutter's Cove - silly slasher flick.
• Madhouse - suspenseful movie about a doctor in an insane asylum.  Or is he a doctor?
• All Souls Day - cheesy zombie movie set in Mexico.
• Sliders Season 3 - Good show, not good enough to buy seasons 1 and 2, but good enough to buy the season where Kari Wuhrer joins the cast.
