Title: hot and popular movies you think are B-movies and that you hate........
Post by: respectmeordye3 on May 01, 2007, 01:23:40 PM
Any movies out there that are hot and popular with nearly everyone else and were major hits box office-wise ----but you cannot stand them for any reason.

Me personally? I cannot stand Napoleon Dynamite. I don't find ANYTHING in it funny--in fact I find it badly acted and extremely boring--not funny in the least.

War Of The Worlds?

What a yawn fest, and it's hard to like a wussy guy who is supposed to be the hero.

Impossible in fact--at least for me.

Superman Returns---the guy who played Clark/Supes was.......well, he did okay as Superman-he pulled through fairly well, even if the costume sucked and defied logic. His Clark impression was horrible--not nearly nerdy or geeky enough. The gal who played Lois was even worse it was like she was doing a Margot Kidder impression of Lois Lane--but not trying hard enough-much too wooden. To tell you the truth the only reason I really the movie was worth watching at all was Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. I still like Hackman better in the role but as far as recasting in the roles, Spacey was the only guy who got it 100 % perfectly right.

The movie was also waaaaaaayyyyy too long.

Napolean Dynamite was a truely horrible movie. I laughed more at the idea that someone was dumb enough to put it on film than I did at the content itself. For some reason though, it's often funny hearing people quote lines from it.

The ones I hate the most is the "Fast and Furious" franchise, , lame movies, lame acting, Vin Diesel (Does anyone besides myself chuckle at teh thought that is initials are VD?) comes off closer to Pee-Wee Herman than a tough guy IMO, and for the most part the cars were lame. Yea, the Charger was kick-ass, , but 1. You don't destroy a ride like that in a movie, 2) VD was admittedly "Scarred" of it. . . . .

The other is the Austin Powers movies, , I just do not see the humor it them, , , at all. . .I've seen at least most of all of them, , but really can't remember a single redeeming scene.

American Pie is another I just couldn't get into. . . just didn't see the humor in it. .

Any of the STAR WARS movies, beyond the first. NONE of the SAW films. Superhero movies. Movies with too much CGI. The LORD of the RINGS movies. The JACKASS movies. I don't even have to watch them...just word of mouth has me avoiding them.

I would never call a popular mainstream movie that I hate a 'B-movie' because that would be giving it more respect than it deserves, to associate it with actual B-movies. Calling something like Napoleon Dynamite a "b-movie" would be like calling Britney Spears fuzz-pop "music."

I'm curious.

Why is NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE not a B-Movie?  Very low budget, first time writer/director (based on a short he did he film school), filmed entirely in his rural home town, used friends and townspeople in speaking parts, etc.

How does that NOT fit the B-Movie mold?  Because it is not horror, sci fi, kung fu or monster?

War Of The Worlds?
What a yawn fest...
WAR OF THE WORLDS had an astounding, scary, powerful opening, and spiraled out of control within an hour.  How could the ultimate film maker not know how to make this movie?

The LORD of the RINGS movies.
RETURN OF THE KING was no "B movie" but won lots of praise and accolades and I thought it was a predictable bore.

I like the first three STAR WARS films, but have no use whatsoever for the dopey prequels ("Mace Windu?"  Who do wind like mace?)
