Title: What movie would you "Phantom Edit"
Post by: WingedSerpent on May 16, 2007, 07:10:32 PM
After the New Star Wars came to video, everybody was just fast-forwarding through any scences with Jar-Jar Binks.  Then somebody came up with an idea.  Just cut him out.  Thus was born the Phantom Edit.  No Jar-Jar, and suposedly this Star Wars is hundereds of time better then the original

Likewise there is a LOTR where they took out the hobbits.  (Must have made the movie shorter)

If I phantom edited a movie it would be the new War of the Worlds.  No more Tom Cruise or Dakota Fanning.  Just twenty minutes of alien machines decimating cities.

What movie would you remove something to make it better?

"Deanzilla" (okay, "Godzilla" (1998)) would be my choice.  I would dump the whole love story and probably most of the raptor-ripoff in Madison Square Garden.  That should finally reduce it normal monster movie length.

Peter Jackson's King Kong. I'd loose 99% of the stuff on the ship and then trim all the big set pieces - the stampede, the fight with the V-Rexes and the overly long rescue of Ann from Kong.

I detested Chronicles of Narnia.  I'd love to recut it to tell the story from the White Witch's perspective, though that would probably leave it running a bit short.  Perhaps if I mixed in footage from Wes Craven's People Under the Stairs and Bob Balaban's Parents I could beef it back up to feature-length and do away with the original pesky goody-goody British children altogether.

I already did edit my own 2005 King Kong.  I started with three hours, seven minutes, and finished with one hour, thirty-seven minutes.  It was a lot of work; I couldn't just cut out minutes at a time because EVERY SINGLE SCENE needed to be trimmed here and there.

Pearl Harbor could be improved considerably by editing out the entire love story.

Same with Titanic. Without Leo and Kate, it might have been a decent movie  :twirl:.

Awakening of the Beast (http://www.last-site.org/CJAOTB.html) (aka Coffin Joe 3).  Fast forward through everything that isn't Joe, bikini girls, or centerfold shots of Cynthia Myers.  Make the movie about eight minutes long and a hell of a lot better.

Sure I'd miss all that anti-war propaganda and assbackwards singing but, well, I fail to see the downside...

I second both motions! Remove The Loveing Spoonfull from WHATS UP, TIGER LILY, and you have the final cut Woody Allen wanted.

He he he...take out ALL "Deanzilla", and cut in all monster shots with The Real Deal! ( All different versions ), and let Broderic and crew react to that!

Explorers. I'd cut out all the scenes with the aliens after we discover what they really were.

I saw Titanic for the first time only a couple of months ago, and I actually thought it was pretty good.  Some bits were corny but it didn't seem that long to me.

I want to see akiratubo's cut of King Kong.   :teddyr:

I'd sit through that too!  After I begrudgingly walked away from the movie theatre, I thought the biggest downside to the remake was that I didn't like King Kong himself.  His constant whining and all those facial expressions really got to me.  I just didn't buy all that emotion coming from a giant ape.  This would be a less painful way to prove that hypothesis than sitting through the film in its entirety.  :teddyr:

Akiratubo, got a youtube cut yet?

Again for Titanic, but I'd do it different: I'd cut out the entire movie, and put the "Zombie Baby in the Park" scene from Dead-Alive in it's place. It'd only be a 3-1/2 minute short film, the name wouldn't match, and the story is different, , But I'd like it much better.

Also, I'd edit Fifth Element, , I'd take out LeeLoo's clothes. .

Bernardo Bertulucci's 1900 is one that could use some serious editing.  The original version that I saw on DVD is 5 hours and 15 minutes long(!).

There is a great movie buried in there somewhere.

not exactly the phantom editing style previously posted aboot... but in the matrix that first time keanu and larry fishburner enter the "construct and larry talks about how your clothes are your vision of yourself. I desperately wanted him to be wearing that sweet cowboy curtis getup from his days as a peewee's playhouse cast member.

hooray! first post!

Might as well edit OUT Trinity and Niobe's clothes while we're at it. .

Legend, if only to add in the deleted opening sequence which should never have been cut. I can't understand people who say they can "see why it was cut" when it explains Blunder's hand and the darn horn! :)

Welcome! I would edit all the clothes off the girls in the HORRORS of SPIDER ISLAND!

Fifth Element is a good call.  Get rid of Chris Tucker and I might actually be able to watch it all the way to the end.

Christ Tucker is the only thing that makes that movie watchable.

Tombstone.  I would take out all of the ridiculous love scenes that involve Kurt Russel flirting with some unattractive woman.

More Huckelberry, less romance!

I would completely take out Wesley Crusher from Star Trek TNG.

Otherwise I would cut Pauly Shore is dead  back to trailer format

I'd like to take the POLTERGEIST movies and cut out every frame of film when someone says either "Carol Ann" or "Don't go near the light."  Each movie would end up being around 40 minutes long.

Jeepers Creepers - Take out everything after about the first 20 - 25 minutes, especially the cheesy demon itself, replace it with something with some scare value to it.  But, I would edit the new demon into the ending, because I like how they ended the movie.  That had potential to be a decent horror flick, but it just got silly in the middle.
