Title: Best Ozzy Osbourne solo album.
Post by: Torgo on May 22, 2007, 10:14:49 PM
Since Ozzy's newest CD came out recently, I figured I would start  a poll to see what solo album of his you all consider to be his best

BTW, I didn't include live albums or 2005's cover album.  All I listed are his proper solo CD's of original material.

I still think that his best album is 1981's Diary of a Madman.

My 2nd favorite is Blizzard followed very closely by No More Tears.

A coworker let me listen to his newest CD today Black Rain and I wasn't impressed.  It suffers from all of the same problems that plagued Down to Earth and Ozzmosis.  It's like he's just putting out albums to put them out and no thought or effort is being put into them.

But he is a legend, even if the people behind the scenes have been more important to his success than he has throughout the years at times.   :teddyr:

I voted for No More Tears, primarily because the song is my favorite of his works.

I am not a big Ozzy fan by any means, though I always find him to be entertaining, for one reason or another.

No More Tears just seemed to me like a more reflective and lucid Ozzy than what he had been before, and it came across in his music.

I did not care for Ozzy much before the 90s. I remember seeing him in an interview with Tom Snyder where he had the opportunity to just sit down in a one-on-one interview and speak openly. He is quite likeable when he is being open about himself.

Despite his near incoherent speech when just talking, he is still quite a performer and can sing coherently; he did a great job on Kimmel last night.

I went with The Ultimate Sin, only because it's my favorite album of his.

EDIT: and somehow I ended voting for No More Tears.

I first got into Ozzy when he released No Rest For the Wicked.
So I voted for that one.

I had heard some of his older stuff but "No Rest" just blew me away.
I do like Diary of a Madman though.  Definitely some classics on that one.

BLACK SABBATH was one of my favorite (and still is) bands as a kid. But I'll go with Diary of a MADMAN...on the song Crazy Train alone.

 oh yeah...while driving..."Grinding gears...."

I've always been a huge fan of Randy Rhoads, so I went with Diary of a Madman.  The title song is probably my favorite guitar song of all time.  But I also really like The Ultimate Sin and Bark at the Moon;  those albums had a really high energy level.

Isn't Crazy Train onf "Blizzard of Oz"?

To me, it's a toss-up between Blizzard and Diary. I went with Diary of a Madman just to pick one (and Flying High Again was in my head when I read this thread).

Well, I don't know all the song on all the albums, but I like BARK AT THE MOON, CRAZY TRAIN, and NO MORE TEARS.

Which Ozzy Song resembles this Kroft 1976 TV Show Dr. Shrinker? and did he borrow something from this show?

it is on Blizzard of Oz.  I'm surprised so many people voted for Diary of a Madman over Blizzard of Oz.  As a guitarist I have to vote for Blizzard of Oz which was Randy Rhoads best album.  'Mr Crowley' and 'I don't know' are my favorite Ozzy songs.

Even though Diary was quickly rushed in to production to capitalize on the surprise success of Blizzard (Little Dolls has a scratch solo on it by Randy and he didn't have time to do a finished solo), I've always like the production/sound quality on Diary more as it really helped Randy's amazing guitar work to cut across even more.

The production on blizzard was always kind of boxy and choked IMO, even though the sounds are great.

But I just like the songs on Diary a slight bit better than Blizzard.

You know, as I read this thread I realize that Ozzy is one of the FEW people whose "solo" work I like as much as the work in the band that gave him fame.  I'm a pretty big Sabbath fan; often, I find I don't particularly care for the solo work so much when someone leaves a band I really like.

Yet another way Ozzy is, uh, exceptional.

I agree with your thoughts.  It's funny how Ozzy's solo career has eclipsed Sabbath  ten fold in terms of sales,  though his stuff with Sabbath is still justifiably legendary.

Sabbath is still a pretty good band!
