Post by: RCMerchant on May 26, 2007, 06:19:34 PM
ok...I know this isn't really a topic, but I just HAD to share this! Awhile back,we had a thread going about things that scared us when young...well,I mentioned an old Creature Feature type show, with Vampira from Plan 9 and the Colassal Man picking up a truck...scared the s**t outta me as young. Well...I FOUND IT!

edit: It seems kinda silly, now that I look back, that I was scared of this ....but I was. I was only about 6 or 7.

This was a great program in the 70's and I use to watch it regularly on WPIX from New York. Here is the later intro to the show. How old are you RCMerchant? So you moved from New York to L.A.? That's quite a move.

For movie fans of the New York area in the 70's and early 80's you may remember some of these movie intros. They'll bring tears to your eyes.

Scott...I'll be 45 on August 20th. I was born in the Bronx,in NYC,and we moved upstate to Wappinger Falls when I was about 5. Then moved to Milton, and then Marlboro. That's about the time my Ma and Dad divorced....We got thrown in a couple of foster care homes and a Catholic Orphange for a year...and Dad pulled us out and we moved to Michigan. I've never been to LA...(do I seem spacy? :bouncegiggle:) I've been back to visit Ma quite a few times...when I was 16 I left home to hitchike to NY to stay for about a year. Again in '84 I lived  on Long Island for a six month strech. Mostly I've been doing time here in Lawton,MI! Karma on all the intros! Greaty stuff, you guys! I DO rember the hand from Chiller! Saw CHILDREN SHOULDN"T play WITH DEAD THINGS in NYC and DON"T LOOK in the BASEMENT in 1979 oafter my hitchiking adventure! I't bugs me out,the Chiller thing...I spread Karma!

I know Dennis is from L.A., but for some reason I thought you where also . I'll be 43 in September and grew up in the Elmira/Corning area of New York State near the Finger Lakes.

My parents got divorced when I was about 12 and we moved to Pennsylvania and later everyone moved to South Jersey.

I want to visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes National area of Northwestern Michigan and Mackinac Island some time.

Yup.Lawton is almost as exciting as that travelouge.( :teddyr:) Her's a photo of Main St.,Lawton. NOTE: this is the ACTUAL SIZE!-slighty smaller than the palm of a human hand!

(http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/spring1.jpg)  As you can see-the streets are a hub of excitment!

...and this is the thriving state of the art cinema that I have viewed most of the classics of cinema that I hold so dear....

(http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/RCMerchant/a5Erecent_pic.jpg) Lines are long,as everyone wants to see the SCORPION KING!

The Strand name was somekind of national franchise theater chain. Here in South Jersey in Ocean City we also have a Strand Theater on the Boardwalk. Capital Theaters were another one around the country.

Wow, forgot all about the BANANA SPLIT SHOW. Hanna Barbara sound effects. Awesome.

I've probably posted all the KROFT SHOWS from Saturday mornings, but I make just one that some forget.

In honor of the passing of Charles Nelson Reilly, here's his contribution to the Weird World of Sid & Marty Krofft:

I completely forgot about Butch "Eddie Munster" Patrick being in this.

Forget about that wimpy Disney crap: Six Flags theme parks were a much cooler heaven for kids in the 70's.

Wow, I don't recall that show, but it sure resembles H.R. PUFFINSTUFF.

CRAZY EDDIE!!  Boy, that all went bad!   Still makes me laugh to see Crazy Eddie's mouthpiece.  Karma.  I'm getting a soft spot for you, Bela.

I remember all of those.  I think I even remember Stella from Phila Della though she might be a bit later (spent many a night at the jersey shore, many towns get Phillie...)
Thanks for sharing all those great memories, I applaud you!

I remember "THE BUGALOOS" but not that Martha Raye starred!  :bouncegiggle:  Frankly, I was too old for that show so what was I doing watching it?

I applaud you, too; I saw a picture of Charles Nelson Reilly earlier today from "LIDSVILLE" in the green makeup and was perplexed and now I recall!  Butch Patrick!

Does anybody remember the CHRISTMAS greeting ads the TV stations used to show?  There was one on WNEW channel 5 (I think) out of NY with moving displays of elves and figures in huge store front windows and a familiar but as yet unidentified xmas tune...?
