Title: R.I.P. Charles Nelson Reilly

I remember him mainly from Match Game. Watching a few episodes recently convinced me he and Brett Somers were probably completely sloshed most of the time on the show.

He made a couple of great dramatic guest appearances on The X-Files as writer Jose Chung.

This is so ironic as he was just metioned in the gameshows thread.

I liked Charles and the majority of the recurring gameshow celebs in the 70s (I think some of them were only celebs due to the gameshows).

He really got pigeon holed as an actor as he was more than competent in any role I have seen him play.

There is an interesting irony to his character of Jose Chung in X-files, being that he was the straight guy and everyone else was the comedian.

He was a unique and memorable man and will be missed.

 :bluesad: RIP Charles.  :bluesad:

"Agent Scully, you're so kindhearted. He's a nut!"
"As for her partner Reynard Muldrake, a ticking timebomb of insanity..."
[on hearing that Scully found Mulder in her room] "Aaaahhhhooooooh?"

I might cry next time I watch Match Game.

Actually, my favorite local horror host Svengoolie had a bit recently (and kind of out of nowhere) where he played Columbo and Charles Nelson Reilly.  It was interesting and had nothing to do with the movie he was showing.

Sadly, Nelson Reilly was pigeon-holed; thank goodness he had a sense of humor about it.  Doesn't anyone remember his recurring role on "THE GHOST & MRS. MUIR"?
Does anyone know the title of this X-FILES episode and if it's available?  I am not an X-FILES fan so to speak, but happened to catch that one episode, it was very well written, and I was stunned by Charles Nelson Reilly's convincing, non-comedic "straight" performance.  He narrates the episode I saw, I did not see a second Jose Chung episode, but would have had to fall over it as I was not a regular viewer.  However, even now if I stumble across an X-FILES rerun, I pause long enough to determine it isn't the Jose Chung episode about the young lovers who witness a UFO (I think).  Good night Charles, we all loved you.

  Hi allhallowsday.

The second Jose Chung episode was not in The X Files but in Milennium, that eerie series also created by Chris Carter. I haven't seen the particular episode.

The Millenium episode is entitled "Jose Chung's 'Doomsday Defense'"

He was also memorable in 1987's BODY SLAM and 1984's CANNONBALL RUN II..bad movies I personally highly recommend.

Just to show how naive I was, I figured that those two were married or at least seeing each other.  :buggedout:

At the time I remember Brett being married to Jack Klugman. There was some 70's game show with married celebrity couples they used to be on, along with the likes of Bobby Van and Elaine Joyce.

She used to appear on The Odd Couple, too.

The Millenium episode si worth seeking out, and not just for Reilly. The whole episode is a pretty clever satire of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, his fiction writing, and that group's tactics of suing their critics.

"Jose Chung's From Outer Space"
Thanks!  I did not know the title of the episode, but I do remember being very impressed.  Anybody know about availability on disc?

"Millenium" I looked at a few epsidoes of that but I'm not loyal to TV; it was not the success X-FILES was, no?

Hi Trevor, (I miss the pic of yourself) thanks for advising that the 2nd Jose Chung was "MILENNIUM."  It is greatly appreciated if a little late!

 Hi, allhallowsday: just for you, I'm back!  :teddyr:

I just thought that a nice pic of Joan Collins would be better than seeing my mug every time and far cheaper than me having reassignment surgery in the hope that I might look like her.  :buggedout:

I am off on my travels tomorrow: I am off to the crown jewel in South Africa's crown, namely Bloemfontein. www.bloemfontein.co.za (http://www.bloemfontein.co.za)

We are having a gala event there to kick off our July film festival.
