Title: Well, that's a relief
Post by: Andrew on May 31, 2007, 07:50:04 AM
We've had one thing to worry about with our soon-to-arrive third child:  the baby had been positioned transverse.  That position is dangerous for both the baby and Katie.  The doctor planned to schedule Katie for an appointment to try and turn the baby around the 11th or so.  The doctor was concerned, because the baby is a big one; they were guessing it was over 6 lbs at her last appointment.

Yesterday, I needed to take Katie to the hospital after she was having back pain (back labor) and contractions bad enough to cause her eyes to tear.  After an ultrasound, we found out that the baby had flipped on its own.  They kept us there for a little while longer, to make sure that she was not going into labor after that much of a stress.  Looks like we'll be having a new little one before the end of June and not by c-section.

And, yes, we're going to cross our fingers that little one does not flip again and return to transverse or breech.

Glad to hear he(??) flipped, Andrew.  That's some scary stuff, the things that can happen during pregnancy/birth.  Easily, and by far, the most stressful two days of my life (two children) - both good stress and bad - and ours went relatively smoothly.

We'll keep you all in our thoughts and prayers over the coming weeks.

Sounds like you have yourself a gymnast. That's good because gymast are in phenomenal shape. Training for 15 hours plus a week.

Poor Katie!  Is she on bed rest for now, or is she still up and going?  (I was supposed to be on bed rest with my younger one, but when you already have a child at home, that doesn't last very long.)

Katie says that the little one kicks and punches her a lot.  Maybe little one (we are waiting to find out if it is a boy or a girl) is a martial artist.

I took today as leave so I could do stuff for Katie around the house.  Feed the kids, do the grocery shopping that needed to be done, all that.  She was feeling much better after having a day to rest.

Wouldn't it be funny to see an ultrasound of the baby doing full blown Tai-Chi moves while in-utero?   :teddyr:

Glad to hear she's ok.

A version is an interesting procedure.  Pretty weird.  =)  Glad Katie didn't have to go through it.

Andrew, your phrasing suggests that you and Katie have opted not to learn the baby's gender.  True?

Good news, though, and our best wishes and prayers are with you (at least for my family -- my wife doesn't read the site but she knows who "Andrew" is and who the "bad movies people" are, and she thinks y'all are funny, too).

When you have a little squashy crying baby in hand, please send us a picture, and please tell us all the details!
Title: Kurt Thomas Borntreger?

 Hi Andrew, I hope all is going well with Katie.

Do you know if you are expecting a boy or a girl? If your new arrival is a boy, I suggest either Trevor or even Menard, possibly.

The baby kicks and punches terribly: how does Kurt Thomas Borntreger sound?  :teddyr:

So Andrew,

When is your new one due?
Got any names in mind?

I like Trevor's idea.
Let's come up with some names...

How's about we all help Andrew think of names for his new baby?

What do you think Andrew?
You open to a few suggestions?

I say Hundra or Galaxina if it's a girl.    :bouncegiggle:

Yep, we already have a boy and a girl, so we decided to let the gender be a surprise.   We found that the big detractor is not knowing what sort of baby clothes to buy.  We have two outfits for a boy and two for a girl.

Ha!  I'm posting the review for "Gymkata" next weekend.  Katie would probably appreciate it if the little one was not practicing their pommel horse defense while still inside mommy.

Trevor
Baby is still head down and Katie is mighty uncomfortable, because little one dropped, so we'll see.  There is no way on "Menard."

I kept telling my mother-in-law that I wanted to name a boy Seth Orlando Borntreger (check the initials).  The other option was Brigham Young Orlando Borntreger.  To be serious, it looks like a boy will be Garrett and a girl will be Elaine.

I wonder if I could convince Katie of one of those for a middle name?

I remember my wife telling me about one of her friends who had the baby flip proceedure done.  They said it was downright one of the most painful things they ever had done.

I remember the doctors kept telling us how are son was going to weight less than 5 lbs and he ended up a lot bigger than what they predicited. In other words doctors seem to like to worry the general public at times.  Do keep us updated on the progress.

Elaine Galaxina Borntreger is my pick and I have yet to even see the film.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

(NOT the meatloaf song.   )

That's irresistably polysyllabic.  And then she gets to explain what a freakin' nerd her father is, naming her "Galaxina."  And the cool part is that she'll be explaining that to a 16 year old boy (her first date) and said nerdy dad will be polishing the 20 mm just a short distance away...

PS:  Seth is a great name.  (mine!)  It's unusual, but people generally recognize it and spell it properly on the first try, without me having to repeat myself.  It's almost 100% nickname- and schoolyard-proof too.

I would put forward Elaine Ruballie Borntreger as my next choice.  :teddyr:

I'm actually a big softie so just as long as both Katie and the child are healthy, the name can be anything.
