OK while sitting here trying to find something to watch out of 500 channels and coming up empty I noticed I kept seeing shows that I thought "Holy %&$# that show is still ON?!! ... WHY?!!"

So with that said what shows need to go ...

For me ANY reality show, I live it, don't need to watch it. (Except "Deadliest Catch" it's cool)
American Chopper - These bikers wannabe kit builders need to get some therapy and relax to cancellation land.
Anything with Steve Irwin ... sorry he died and all, but he's still annoying by cracky.
Trading Spaces - enough already!
Planets Funniest Animals - I get it, puppies and kittens are cute! (My kids love this show and I want to shoot the TV when I see it. Can you say anger management?)

There are tons more but I think I'll just pop in a movie ...

Well...my TV got cancelled (again) because I was too late paying the bill...(again!) You don't BUY a house...you PAY for a house... :bluesad:....but,on the bright side...I don't have to suffer with...

Last year a friend I hadn't seen in a long while went down to the local bar to catch up and play a little pool.  There was one of those cool jukeboxes that downloads songs off the internet (or something like that).  Well, we picked like $20 worth of songs between the two of us and started to play pool.

About five minutes later, the bartender walks up and says "How many songs do you have left because I've got to turn off the jukebox?".  We told her that we just started playing our $20 worth of music.  She says "American Idol is coming on and the rest of the people in the bar (five other people) want to watch it."  She turned the freakin' jukebox off after it had played three songs!

I've always hated American Idol but after this incident I loathe it with every ounce of my being.  I refuse to be in a room where it's playing on the TV.

Another thing that bugs me about it is its name.  I'm an American and I don't idolize any of the winners, contestants or judges that have ever been on the show.  Hell, I don't like pop music at all so why should I look up to somebody who karaoke's their way to the "top".

Any of those show with less than masculine men, which seems to be taking over the airwaves.

I hate American Chopper!  I can't take people who have to scream and carry on like that, too much drama for me. 

American Idol is total crap, as are most "reality" shows.  I don't watch anything on network TV with the exception of the occasional Law and Order episode, so I can't really comment on any of those.  If it weren't for channels like Discovery, A&E, and the like I'd leave the TV off when my kids weren't using it.

Never watched American Idol.  Agree about American Chopper, totally annoying.

I have caught a few moments of this one MTV show about rich girls' Sweet Sixteen parties.  The pure, unadulterated spoiled brattiness of them makes me think that Osama bin Laden may actually have a point.

Basically I don't watch network tv anymore, outside of the Simpsons -- which is more like a chore these days.

I haven't watched MTV since the 80's every time I scan over it it seems to be (c)Rap music or some goofy show like Pimp my Ride ... I admit I watched one episode and I thought my head was going to explode!

They took some clunker that barely ran and dropped about $30K in paint, seats, TV's and stereos for it. And did nothing mechanically to it! NOTHING - it still smoked, knocked and barely ran, it had retractable headlights and one was broke and wouldn't go down, they couldn't fix a simple vacuum line so they disabled the other one to stay up always too. Talk about lipstick on a pig. After that I never ventured into MTV land again.

I think all of the reality shows should go.  I just saw a new advertised about pirates.  Could it be someone is cashing in on Pirates of the Carab??

That show is still on?  Wow.  Yeah, cancel that sh!t.  Are people still watching that?  My friends all seemed entranced with Clay Akin (luckily I don't have TV), but I haven't heard a peep about it since.

It's one of the highest rated shows every year. It ain't going away any time soon.

I've never understood the rager so many people get over various TV shows. The fact that these shows are on means that someone somewhere watches it, which is what advertisers want. It's all about diversity. There is a ton of stuff that I wouldn't bother with, but all I do is turn the channel and move on, leaving it for those who do want to watch it.

A friend of mine always watches Survivor, and even he doesn't like the new pirate show.  So maybe there's hope yet?  Nah.

Personally, they could take all three networks off the air and it would be months before I even noticed. 

• THE BACHELOR- degrating show where women desperate for a man fight over one as he toys with their emotions and makes out with all of them
• DANCING WITH THE STARS - For the love of god, why?
• LAW AND ORDER - Does anybody even watch this show? I have to admit i always turn it off because i can't stand the opening theme song

and just about any reality show out there - it becomes so repetative.

In defense for Pimp my Ride, I've seen some episodes where they replaced bad engines with new ones.  And there only other saving grace was in one episode where a chick had a blazer and she was a petite sized girl too, so what they did was rig her ride to whenever she open her door, a motorized step comes out from the bottom to give here some leverage.  Other than that, most of the stuff they put in these cars are unnecessary.  Who in the hell would put a bowling ball cleaner in the trunk of their car?  Or a bath tub (yes, a tub) WITH a 40" tv in their van.  They even did a car where there is no back seat, but replacing that missing seat is the world largest speaker called the "jackhammer".  Why?

As far as reality show goes, I read an article where the Dutch are trying to (or are going to) make a show where a woman who has terminal brain cancer will donate her kidney to one of three people with the most convincing sob story when she inevitably dies.  (really)

For Cancellation, Most of Adult Swim's shows, with the exception of ATHF, Harvey Birdman, Futurama, Family Guy and any action anime with a good story.  And those Infomercials.  You want so bad to watch a late night movie, but instead you get Ron Popeil
in you face.  All of the non-music shows on Mtv and Vh1, with exception of (respectively) Pimp my Ride, just so to see the reaction on the next sucker's face when they see what happen to their car and say: "This is not what I want.  What the fnck happened to my car?"  And Vh1's World Series of Pop Culture.  I would kill in a show like that.  RC, I totally agree, and applaud the movie on tv (I assume you don't mean cable).  Never, ever,ever, EVER show a "R" or even a "PG-13" movie regular tv

Wait for it . . . Apparently, Steve Irwin's daughter is getting her own television show. I don't know what type of show it will be, but I presume it will be something similiar to what her father did.

Today's TV seems to be overloaded with little else but mindless trash that reflects the term "idiot box" pretty well IMO. There's far far too many reality TV shows, inane game shows and brutally unfunny but terribly offensive comedy series. Honestly it's come to the point where I hardly bother at all anymore with new series and instead watch the classics from yesteryear.

One other show that I THOUGHT was cancelled but should be is Americas Funniest Home Videos.  Does anyone even watch this show?  It's like Jackass for the G rated group.  Who wants to watch random people with kids and pets doing "wacky" stunts on video for money?

I'll add to the dogpile on reality shows, one of the main reasons I don't watch much TV now. Certainly affected my decision to ditch cable.

The various CSI, Medium and Law & Order spinoffs and clones. We get it copy what works, 'til it doesn't. At least Raines was a clever flip flop of the "talk to the dead" show, too bad it didn't stand a chance.

Celebrity/celebritante psuedo-entertainment news shows. Press releases, advertising and gossip dressed up as information. Also Pat O'Brian is annoying and a sleazy creep.

Judge/court shows except maybe Judge Joe Brown. The rest are awful and stupid. Judge Judy is an egomaniac who couldn't stop talking if her life depended on it.

The whole CW network. Do even stupid vain self-absorbed good-looking teenagers watch One Tree Hill? If only to say "I could be on that show!"

Ozzymandias speaks: Let's go back in time several years. I have discovered the original Gunsmoke episodes on DVD. The half hour black and white shows are so much better than the color episodes that are rerun all the time.

Supposedly, Gunsmoke was cancelled several times, but the president of CBS would get upset about it. Finally the main cast said they wouldn't do the show anymore.

At least it should have been cancelled before it went to color.

I hate: Charm school on MTV, Tyra's show(honestly the woman is an egomaniac) wife swap, parental control, Super sweet sixteen, and according to Jim.

"The Biggest Loser": Let's make a TV show about losing weight, so people that are looking to learn something about weight loss have to, , sit, , and watch the show, , , and what they learn , , is the 'quick results' type of weight loss that is LEAST likely to work long-term. I doubt many people that aren't overweight have interest in this show, but I could be wrong.

America's Top Model: Let's call this "skinny arrogant kids treating others like crap". I can't stand that show, such shallow, worthless people for the most part. I saw once there were 3 of the models toasting "Being young, rich, and sexy". So they were so shallow as to toast THEMSELVES for being young (as if they're the first peopel to ever be young), rich (so they are TOASTING their being 'lucky enough to be born to well-off parents), and sexy (something that also took little effort on their part). They should name the show "Women you will see on INTERVENTION in a decade or so when they realize the world only wants to exploit them while they are young and drops them like a rock once that goes, since there's no intelect, personality, or skill to replace it with"

My Sweet Sixteen on MTV.  I'm hoping they may have cancelled it by now. Disgustingly spoiled rich kids who go out of their way to suck many pennys out of their daddy's botomless pockets for their one "special" day where they can pretend to be celebrities with their snotty annoying friends. 

Good one Darksider, I had blocked that one out. Every time I see that show, I get to a point where I think "Just one hand grenade in the right place, at the right time could do so much good for the world".

How does that show stay on the air?  Especially now, with youtube being the home for stupid videos.  If there is any evidence that you can sell your soul to the devil for success, I think that might be the prime example. 

As for My Sweet Sixteen  I have only seen one episode because the kid was the son of my older brother's companies' senior partners (or something like that) It was the first time I was really opernly worried about the gerenations that will be growing up soon.

Not Hotel Babylon I like that show. It's one of the shows I watched on BBC America that don't have people buying or selling stuff.

I can't stand what Cartoon Network, Nick at Night and TVLAND run on their stations, therefore I don't watch them. These guys have a wealth of animated/tv treasure at their disposal and all they show are crappy "original" programming or the same few threadbare reruns over and over and over and over and over and over and OVER again.  TVLAND is showing Extreme Makeover when they have 50+ years of real tv shows to choose from.  :thumbdown: :thumbdown: What's the problem?!  Are they all owned by the same company which uses the same evil financial model to maximize profits?   Is that it? Because now I can buy any real show I like on DVD and never tune in any of these channels again.

Same thing with the Sci-Fi Channel, they've got wrestling and reality shows.  And all their "original" movies (which are usually just straight-to-video stuff from a couple years ago that they're "premiering") are horror, not sci-fi.

One thing that really needs to be canceled is Mama's Boy.  They've got some herd of bimbos desperate for their thirty seconds of fame chasing after some slick looking douchebags.  But just when they start getting romantic, the guy's mom shows up.  Egads.  Could we get any more stoopid?  I don't think it's even on yet, making this the perfect time to cancel it.

Honestly, I knew MTV was on the slippery slope to crapsville when they started "Yo MTV Raps". The point being that a) They were willing to veer from Rock n Roll, and b) They would be changing from the Music Vdeos/Music News format to, well, everything but. They did have some OK shows like "Remote Control" and "Headbanger's Ball", but so much else sucked, and continues to suck to this day. Those MTV ads right before and after comercials were cool also, like the weird 'M' shaped Frankenstien making up the MTV logo. Haven't seen one in decades.

I never forget when I went to my friends house and was watching cable (don't have cable at my house and happy for it) I watched it out of curiosity. For one whole hour and my jaw was just on the floor. I could not believe that show. It felt like humanity's lowest point.

Hay! Yo MTV Raps is classic better than the stupid stuff in the 90's like Undress, some of those Real World,Road Rules and those sick dating shows I'll take Fab Five Freddy and Ed Lover and Dr. Dre any day over that crap. In the 90's and today they should change MTV to LTV lesbians this lesbians that it makes my head explode.

I could almost live with this show if they picked real people, not morons, and if they were required to make a choice within 10 seconds.  At first, it was vaguely tolerable, but when they milk the choices for ten minutes (maybe it just seems that long), I have no interest.  Maybe if they held a gun to their heads and said, "Pick a suitcase or I'm gonna shoot you.  You have ten seconds...six...seven...eight <click> nine...."

Maybe Battle Royale isn't such a bad idea!   :bouncegiggle:

How or why this show didn't come to mind skips me.  The novelty was cool at first but slowly but surely they literally mastered the art of j*rking off one hour for one contestant.  The dialog is absolutely awful...

Howie:  "The offer stands at $200,000. (pause, walks around for a minute)  Thats a lot of money.  (pause, walks over to family).  Grandpa, what do you think she should do?"

Grandpa: "Honey, thats a lot of money...but theres more suitcases to open..."

Contestant: "I...um...that is a lot of money...I really think I should stop..."

Howie: "Well before you decide...(pause, walks in circle) Theres something the banker wants to add. (pauses again)  You like ponys right?  (pause)  We'll give you a pony with the $200,000."

Idiocy...why would someone want to waste an hour of their life on this show is beyond me.

In all honesty, I grew up more or less with MTV in the '90s, so I grew up with Headbangers Ball, Yo MTV Raps, 120 Minutes, Club MTV and Just Say Julie amongst others.  I even remember Dr. Demento having some sort of countdown show.  I think they needed to do Yo MTV Raps, as Rap started getting really huge, and to avoid it completely would be ignorant.  Then again, I didn't really see MTV during it's first few years, so I guess I can't really argue too much.  I just hate the network anymore.  Once Beavis and Butt-head went off, I stopped watching.

I remember when MTV first came on the air and they played this thing called "Music Videos" it was of bands that made video of themselves playing there song to imagery often of scantly clad dancers.

The last time I watched MTV which was a few years ago I don't recall seeing a single music video being played. So I switched to classic VH1 which did play videos. In short MTV sucks.

I must admit, I like Buzzcocks more with Simon Amstell as the host. He seems to possess an even quicker, cutting wit. I love the insults he dishes out to most of the Z-Grade guests, whether it be about drug use, weight, class, poor record sales and generally not deserving to branded "celebrity".  :smile:

MTV used to show a block of videos from around 3 AM to 6AM.  That may or may not have stopped.

I wouldn't dare call most people on these shows "celebrities".  My wife watches "Dancing With The Has-Beens"...or thats what I call it anyhow. 

I'd blame those shows on the British (of which, sadly, I am one). We call it Strictly Come Dancing and it's presented by a guy so old he looks as if he's had first hand experience with the 1066 battle of Hastings.

I say all reality shows. Reality shows are the reason tv sucks now days. They take no thought to create, theres no production value and I really don't give a damn about the other peoples lives on those shows. I hate American Idol most people I know do but some how its so freaking popular. Some of these people may have nice singing voices but this is just karaoke  people. 

Reality TV shows are very cheap to make and people watch them. We wont see them off the air until people stop watching them.

The only good thing about this show is that it keeps Jim Belushi contained. We know when and where he'll strike, so evasive action is that much easier.

Rich people showing me how rich they are and how much better their place is compared to anyone else's isn't great entertainment.

Never watched it, but I see clips of it when I watch the news and they are failing bankruptcy because they thought for some reason they needed a 40 man entourage even though they are a has been no talent hack.


I would like to see "Celebrity Hunting" ... a show that you out on and give a "celebrity" a 5 minute head start, then you go after them. If they survive 24 hours they get ONE episode of a 30 minute show. So tune in next week as we go hunting for Tom Cruise. 

I don't like that show either.  While most of the people have kept their weight off, there is far better ways to do it than the Boot camp style approach they take.

Shows that I think should go away:

"Extreme Makeover": I'm still upset that the home version still exists, I was so glad that the people version was taken away.  The way I look it as, you were either made good looking or ugly for a reason, accept it.  I can't stand the home version since I don't agree with a lot of their ways of doing things.  Does a family of 3 need a huge 6 bed room home with plasma tv's in each bedroom?  No.

"Dancing with the Star" - the last I checked most American's don't care about ball room dancing.  I know I don't.

'Unique Whips" - American Chopper but with cars and rich people.  At first I didn't mind it since they had some neat looking cars on the show, but with all the of the reruns on TV, it's got so annoying that there is one episode where their cook gets killed in a motorcycle accident.  I know it's a sad thing, but I get so angry every time I see that episode I just to put my fist through the TV.

"Reality shows" - I know they are cheaper than a sitcom, but they are just horrible to watch.  I mean do I need to see people walk across a log in the ocean to determine if they get to vote someone off the show?  Lord no.

MFG you have an awesome idea there. Let's see, we're hunting 'Toms' today, hoping to get a Cruise, a Green, or maybe even a Hanks. . Should I bring something flat-shooting and long-range like the 7mm Remmington Magnum, or a shorter-range brush-gun with lots of knockdown power like the .444 marlin? Maybe Andrew can swipe us an artillery piece so we can get them all at once. . .

Hey!  Law & Order: SVU is a great spinoff!  Heck, it is even more popular than the original!  I don't want it cancelled!

Personally, any reality TV that is about famous people I want gone.  I'm 17 and I know some of these shows are targeted at my age group, but those shows insult my intelligence.  Also, Pimp My Ride must go.

While this show will never go away, I just want it off the channel and moved somewhere else.  I want wrestling off the Sci-Fi channel!  It doesn't fit the channel at all! :hatred:

I'm not sure if it is or not but Trading Spaces should have been kicked off the television after the first room was destroyed by their so called "designers".   I can't believe for one single minute any of those people coming up with the room designs were one bit serious about any room they visually killed.  That and Paige Davis needed to get off the caffeine. 

I can not stand any of those design type shows, a bunch of unemployed designers taking ugly houses and making them uglier.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but over the past 2 years or so, I've grown more disenfranchised with SVU, and more in love with the other L&O spinoff: Criminal Intent.  D'Onofrio is great as the detective there.  The original I will always love, as McCoy is still around.  He's the boss now, so we don't get to see him yelling at people in the courtroom, but it's still decent he's there.

Makeover shows.  The hosts and scenarios they come up with are simply annoying as hell. There is one from that Carson guy (Queer Eye) called "Do I Look Good Naked".  They take all these women with major self esteem problems and make them feel great about themselves.  Having a gay guy tell a girl she looks great and her buying it makes absolutely no sense to me.  Hence why this show and others like it must be sent out to pasture.

My vote would be for probably 98 to 99% of television to be cancelled... all but a few shows are garbage at best, or probably harmful to people in some way in the long run, at worst.  I don't watch TV.

It continues to surprise me how many crap series are on, especially since there aren't that many shows that I watch.  OTOH I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that I've actually seen an episode of "Desperate Housewives" :gag: yet have no idea who or what "Life of Riley" or "Demons" is.

I also find it disturbing that, while I've never watched the show, I immediately knew who "that Carson guy" was.  They used to air promos for that make-over show all over the dial and the hosts (?) seems to appear on all the talk shows.  If hatred has a name and a face it is "that Carson guy".    :lookingup:

Seriously the hype some of these shows gets annoys me.  If I wanted to watch the show I'd already be watching the show.  I don't care how many millions of dollars you spend on promo ads if I don't want to watch the show all you're going to accomplish is to awaken the rabid rage monkey that lives in the dark corner of my soul.   :wink:   :teddyr:

Anything that has to do with losing weight as a competition.

Any competition that appears as if the contest is to see who is the skinniest bimbo b!tch on the planet (top model, cheerleader show).

Those shows where they take some dumpy, unmotivated teenager and try and transform them into a ballet dancer, rap artist, pro skater or something like that in 30 days.

I myself am a musician and composer.  It infuriates me that some of us spend years and years perfecting their craft while others get away with writing and performing crappy music that we could write in our sleep...and they get idolized for it.  Oh yeah, and they get money too. :hatred:

Where I live, the local FOX station has to have at least one American Idol story in it each night. I'm so sick of that show and the lame news stories about it that I stopped watching anything on FOX entirely.

Other shows (and networks) I wish that were canceled:
Nancy Grace - This woman spends night after night whining about crap like it happen to her personally.
The O'Rielly Factor - Can we just lock Bill in a room with a set of speakers playing the words, "You're right!" over and over again while the rest of us can go on with our lives
Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network - Everytime you watch either of these, God kills a puppy. Think of the Puppies.
The Insider - What other show can dig up Anna Nicole's dead corpse for another story about her two years after she is dead like The Insider. If you want lame celeb news, then it's the show to watch, for the rest of us, it's crap.

The inmates that work for me talk about her quite a bit. Not sure why, but for whatever their reason for watching, they don't seem to be complaining about her.

There's this show I stumbled across on one of the "educational" channels, I forget which, TLC or Discovery or The Travel Channel maybe, that seems to be a parody of the Man vs. Wild type shows.  Only it's Man vs. Food and is apparently about nothing more than some guy stuffing his fat face with obscene amounts of food.  I don't know how long it's been on but, having been subjected to even a few minutes of this disgrace, I'm adding it to the pile of shows that need to be cancelled.
