Evidently you can only be innovative if the government gets their share.

It's the same in the UK as well, you've still got to pay fuel tax even though you're getting your fuel from the chip shop.

I read this same story elsewhere.  Don't you just love it when the law is obviously stupid when applied a certain way, like to a guy who makes his own biofuel?  The people hitting him with the fine even say that he should get a waiver, but "Oh, the law says he must be fined."  How about some personal initiative?  Don't go through the circus of fining the guy, take the issue to the lawmakers, and have them fix the problem.  In situations like this, I think that providing for a waiver for personal use biofuel is a no-brainer.

Andrew, Andrew, Andrew... you're thinking LOGICALLY.  You can't do that when you're talking about the law or the government.   :bluesad:

What a crock!
This guy gets penalized for using plain old ingenuity.

My dad has used Waste Oil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_Oil) to heat his auto repair business for years.
He built the furnace that utilizes it himself.

It's pretty ingenious.
He performs oil changes on customers' cars and then stores and eventually uses the waste oil to heat his business in the wintertime...thereby reducing his heating bill to zero.
