Title: Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Post by: trekgeezer on June 21, 2007, 07:29:12 AM
I was watching that AFI's 100 Greatest Movies of the last 100 years and they ran a commercial for Blade Runner: The Final Cut. Looks like it's going to have a limited release in theaters this fall. I had read and article a while back about Joanna Cassidy doing some reshoots wearing the same costume she wore when Deckard wasted her character.

This might be interesting to catch in the theater, but living here in Arkansas I probably will never be able to catch it.

They're making new scenes to put in Blade Runner?  I'll stick with the director's cut.  No need to go buy another dvd version.

Australia is getting a pretty b***hin' release:

What, no 3-D version?

They're adding scenes?  I thought it could have been improved quite a bit by editing about a half hour out

Can't wait to see the "reenacted by bunnies" version.

Now seriously, I'd love to see the original 1982 cut on the big screen, but otherwise I'm not that interested in BR, even if it is one of my favourite movies ever. These people are going to milk the cow dry.

LOL, Neville.  Actually the director's cut version is pretty good, they take out the annoying narration by Harrison.  Makes for a better film, IMO.

I liked the director's cut back in the 90s, but only because it gave me a chance to watch the film in a theatre screen. But I missed the voiceover, really. It is a bit too much in some scenes, but it adds a lot to the mood, and it helps to overcome the sloooooooooow pacing Ridley Scott chose. And those epilogue images would have looked great on the big screen too.

Er, now the DVD is listed as not available on that Australian site.

That DVD release sounds far too ridiculously cool to be true. I'd settle for the theatrical and directors cut cleaned up, with a bunch of deleted scenes and some doco's, if they re-released it in theatres. Alien's re-release was amazing on the big screen.

Well, at least it's not as big a joke as the Alien Director's Cut.

Reshoots? I thought the added footage was to be some violent content found in the European cut and a few moments from the mysterious workprint. Surely Scott wouldn't reshoot entirely new footage for this thing, right?

Last I knew the SFX were being redone in places, but nothing about actual scene reshoots.

And the R1 version of the Aussie BR uber-set comes out in December, according to WB itself.   Hell, I admit it: the minute I can pre-order this, it's on...

Title: How much money can be milked from the fan base?

Well this is a dupe posting of what I said over in News and Press Releases, but it seems relevant here too.

Yet another variation of a DVD to release and make money on. So lets do a little look see, we have released thus far that I'm aware of ...

Blade Runner
Blade Runner - The Directors Cut
Blade Runner - The Director's Cut (Remastered Limited Edition)
Blade Runner (Signed Senitype Collector's Edition)
Blade Runner (Limited Edition Collector's Set)
BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT
BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT SPECIAL EDITION (2-DISC)
BLADE RUNNER: COLLECTOR'S EDITION (4-DISC)
BLADE RUNNER: ULTIMATE COLLECTOR'S EDITION (5-DISC)

Coming Soon ...
Blade Runner - The Directors Ultimate Final Senitype Remastered Special Limited Collectors Edition Set

I  mean that 5 disc set is tempting, but damn then they'll come out with the 10 disc set with never before seen footage of Sean Young and Daryl Hannah running around naked or better.

I'm just going to stick with the 4 disc set. I can live without the work print disc.

I picked up a boxed set in Kings Lynn of (I think) 9 different versions of Blade Runner. I've watched the original and the last one. I doubt I'll ever watch the ones in between. Honestly, I liked the voice over. Felt it gave it a very film noir feel to it.

I have the 5 disc box set: always amazes me that there can be so many versions of the same movie.

I remember watching it when it came out in the theaters and had a great time. But when I saw it recently (I think it was the director's cut) I found it overrated: several parts were slow, and there were some problems with character development.

"I don't know WHY he saved my life..."
I like it, too - because it's so awkward and off. Reportedly Harrison Ford hated the idea of the voice-over and was trying to sabotage it by delivering a stilted reading. Ironically it just makes him sound more convincingly like an imitation of life instead of the genuine article... which is of course quite effective!
