Title: The Day Mars Invaded Earth
Post by: Scott on March 25, 2001, 09:14:11 AM
Just viewed THE DAY MARS INVADED EARTH (made in the 50's)that played on Sci Fi channel Saturday. It was a pretty creepy film. It felt more like a ghost story than an alien from mars film. This film would have worked without any mention of mars. The strange beings didn't have to come from Mars to make this story interesting.

This is a super low budget film. There were only three different location scenes which included an office scene, the surface of mars scene, and the rest takes place in a mansion on a hill. With a total of 5 actors(two scientist, mother, son, daughter) in the whole film. The aliens were the doubles of the five characters just mentioned. They took on the form of the five characters, so you had a bunch of people that looked alike running around, (kinda like a Patty Duke show).

Besides the fact that this film didn't need anything involving mars, the film did throw in some pseudo-science to spark your imagination. The idea of martians being involved in this rather haunting film only distracts you from any atmosphere they tried to create, but if your a sci-fi/horror or a bad movie fan then you must check this film out. The mars scene is the worst and they use the cheapest robot ever scene. No hollywood ending for this film. I can garentee you that this film dosn't have a hollywoood ending were everything turns favorable.

I just viewed the box at IMDB and they show the same five people on the cover of the box. Check out the user review also, its rather accurate.
