Title: MEDUSA (1973)
Post by: The Burgomaster on July 04, 2007, 06:46:19 AM
You can find this movie in Mill Creek's CHILLING CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK.  However, it is NOT chilling, it is NOT a classic, and it is BARELY a movie.

George Hamilton  :hatred: and the lovely Luciana Paluzzi  :twirl: (from THUNDERBALL) are a brother and sister living on the Greek Isle of Rhodes.  George owes a lot of money to local gangster Cameron Mitchell  (who always seems to show up in movies like this).  The problem is, Hamilton doesn't have the money and there is a rumor that a revised version of his father's will exists that will cause him and Luciana to lose most or all of their inheritance.

Hamilton is already dead when the movie starts (I don't consider this to be a spoiler because we find out he is dead about 1 minute after the opening credits).  His spirit introduces us to the movie, which is basically a very long flashback.

The movie contains mostly boring scenes of: Hamilton dressed as Elvis Presley; Mitchell playing "tough guy" (he slaps people around, pushes a car off a cliff with a bulldozer, fills up a guy's lungs by pouring water down a rubber tube); a mysterious figure dressed in black who occasionally shows up to strangle people; and a "giallo" style police investigation.  Overall, it's pretty dull and George Hamilton is annoying.

This mess was directed by Gordon Hessler, who directed a lot of TV shows, including episodes of KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER, CHIPS, and ALFRED HITCHCOCK presents.  He also directed TV movies like SCREAM, PRETTY PEGGY and KISS MEETS THE PHANTOM OF THE PARK and some theatrical releases like THE OBLONG BOX and CRY OF THE BANSHEE.

I rate this a boring  4 on a scale of 1 to 10.

:bouncegiggle: Yea, Cameron Mitchell must be the king of the stinkers.  I've seen many of his complete flops. Boring is the correct word.
