Title: Today's Menu
Post by: Scott on July 18, 2007, 01:09:50 PM
Here's a list of my lunch specials. Scott's homemade cooking.

These are some of the semi-quick items I like to prepare in the house.

Don't mind me I just had a few minutes to use up before I had to go out.

You do WHAT to cornbread???
Cornbread exists for one purpose, to sop up the broth from stew, pinto beans, chili, etc.
BLUEBERRIES???

As we say in the South . . . . "Get a rope!"

That does look good Ash. Once I was up in Lake Placid, New York and had a baked potato called the Logjam. It might even have been fried I don't remember. It was heavy duty for sure.

Ah.......come on ya have to try it. Who's going to order Cornbread with Blueberries and yogurt on it.

It's like Kryptonite to me and I'm Superman. I'm going down stairs later tonight to have some.

What you can do at home is get some corn bread muffin tops and pour any fruity yogurt on top.

The only way I've ever eaten cornbread is totally slathered in butter or margarine.

Man...I haven't eaten cornbread since the early 90's.
Some hot cornbread with butter sounds good right now!

Whenever Tara Sue makes beans and hamhocks, she makes cornbread! I like to crumble it up into the beans...which is comprised of pinto, blackbeans, onions and a few jalepeno peppers....hmmmm....!

I'll try just about anything so even though it seems slightly sacrilegious to top cornbread with blue berries and yogurt, I'll give it a chance.

Butter only, margarine is the devils food.

Now add to that a big bowl of white beans, slow cooked with ham hocks and loaded with pepper and you've got yourself a meal. Granted it's more of a winter meal, nothing you'd want to eat in the summer.

Poogie, a picture would be great. I'll give Dennis (or anyone) 3 Karma points to anyone who tries Cornbread with Blueberry Yogurt on top this weekend. It can be fresh Blueberries or one of those fruit at the bottom yogurts and if your going the fruit at the bottom route then also try Cherry Yogurt on top.

I'm just about dinner and barely got a chance to have lunch today...

As such: I'm hungry and pretty much all of it sounds good.  For the sake of what I'm in the mood for at the moment, I went with the wings, Caeser wrap and the grilled salmon.

Your going to like those selections Dean. Since you picked a fish item maybe I should put my shrimp scampy (still in the experimental stage)  :teddyr: on the list or my truely world famous eggplant parmesan.

Dean can I interest you in some desert? Maybe Cornbread with Blueberry Yogurt on top?

Cornbread seems so American, I wonder what our equivalent here is [that is, if it has a different name].

But judging from the pictures it seems like a treat!

Again, not much lunch [busy at work] and about to launch into dinner.  Why I keep reading food-based threads when I do this to myself, I don't know.  Although my friend is having a birthday shindig tonight and is having a spit, so I'm glad I've waited.  Yum...  Big belly here I come!

The great corn bread and blueberry yogurt taste test has taken place at Dennis and Poogie's

The table is set
(http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q122/DENNISDURWARDHAMMOND/cornbreadandblueberryyogurt001.jpg)

Corn bread and blueberry yogurt is approaching the taste buds
(http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q122/DENNISDURWARDHAMMOND/cornbreadandblueberryyogurt002.jpg)

Now being tasted
(http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q122/DENNISDURWARDHAMMOND/cornbreadandblueberryyogurt003.jpg)

The chewing has begun
(http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q122/DENNISDURWARDHAMMOND/cornbreadandblueberryyogurt004.jpg)

"uuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmm....not to shabby"  is the reply.

A little something to help it down
(http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q122/DENNISDURWARDHAMMOND/cornbreadandblueberryyogurt006.jpg)

All done,  "Scott, it's not to bad, I'll probably have it again...thanks"

Love the photos. There were great.  :bouncegiggle:

3 Karma points for Dennis. (over the next 24 hours)

Andrew, you going to just love it. You'll be dreaming about Cornbread with Blueberry (or cherry) yogurt before you know it.

How about you RCMerchant and Menard? With Dennis going beyond the call of duty and verification you have to try Cornbread with Blueberry Yogurt on top.

Poogie did you give it a try also?

I can't....I can't STAND yogurt! Or as I call it boogert. I'm not against trying new things...but yogurt...yikes! Not real big on blueberries either. We can them at Honee Bear Canning (my job).  Kinda wears thin after 20 odd years. They grow them all over the place up here. Cherries too. And asparagus.....yuk.  :bluesad:

I'll have some more wings!

Poogie and I are a pair of nuts, we like to do nutty things together, been doing things together for the last 36 years, most of our families consider us to be slightly off center.
The chair was a Christmas present from my wife and daughter, it's a real piece of work, the right side armrest opens up, there is a cup holder for your favorite beverage, a receptacle for your remotes (TV, VCR, cable) and the chair controls. In addition to reclining, this chair has built in heat and massage functions, so when I'm home I'm one with the chair, it's a zen kind of thing.
RC, I want you to know that for a long time I felt pretty much the same about yogurt as you do, Look at what it is, milk with a bacteria in it that turns it into a semisolid dairy product, sounds a lot like spoiled milk to me, but I've found that by adding some fruit or other flavoring (chocolate or vanilla) it's really good. Yogurt with fruit is one of those rare things that tastes good and is good for you.
Now for the test results, I was really surprised to discover that blue berry yogurt on cornbread is quite tasty and would make a very nice desert, I apologise to all the cornbread lovers out there who I've offended with that statement, never the less it's true.

I'm from the South. Putting something fruity on my cornbread is about akin to whacking off my manhood.

Now, slice it in two (the cornbread you guttermind), slather both halves with butter or margarine, then place a few slices of cheese on them and melt it. Cheese and butter improve most anything; it's a heart attack waiting to happen, but you die with a smile on your face.

I'm afraid i must concur. Cornbread may ONLY have 1 of 2 things on it. Butter or your left over chilli... But then i suppose it has butter on it also.  So Cornbread must have butter.

My dad used to eat cornbread like this:

* Crumble up several handfulls of cornbread into a tall drinking glass
* Pour enough buttermilk in the glass to cover the bread
* Eat with a spoon while dribbling large amounts of buttermilk over your shirtless chest

Eating this mixture in front of the kiddies is guaranteed to make them feel like they're about to lose their lunch.

Personally, I like cornbread mixed with black-eyed peas.

I agree more with the second cornbread recipe more than the first. Sugar in cornbread is a Yankee thing, I think.  :teddyr:

And the two big spoonfulls of bacon grease make those beans taste real good. I have to remember the big dose of Moonshine as well!

There was an ongoing cotroversy at my house regarding corn meal: my father's family only used white corn meal and my mother's family only used yellow corn meal. Both grandmothers said that other color of corn was only fed to the livestock and not fit for people to eat.
