Title: Drew Carey the next Bob Barker?
Post by: Scott on July 24, 2007, 01:54:08 PM
You have probably already heard the news that Drew Carey is taking Bob Barkers place on the PRICE IS RIGHT game show.

It would be interesting to see who others on the board think would have made a good replacement for Bob Barker.

Drew Carey is an interesting choice and is someone, IMO, who can do the job.

Had he lived, Peter Tamarkin would have been an excellent choice.

How about Chuck Woolery?

I wasn't expecting a Bob Barker clone but Drew Carey seems too goofy.  I think they should just start over and replay every show.

Peter Tamarkin would have been a great choice if he was still alive.  Gene Rryburn would have been great too if he was alive as well.

I think as well that they need to just do re-runs of more recent bob Baker episodes until the end of time.

While I like Drew Carey, Bob Barker IS The Price is Right so trying to "replace" is futile.

Yeah, but cutting the show is pretty much futile as well.  You know they're going to continue with our without Bob, sadly.

Even still, Drew is a much better choice than Rosie O' Donnell.

I think they should have the Macho Man Randy Savage do it. THAT would be fun!!!

I'm so sick of game shows being hosted by COMEDIANS. Do they think that only a comedian can make a game show work?  The best and longest running game shows were not hosted by comedians

i think they should have had trial periods of a new guy each week to see when ratings were the best and who people liked.

Most game shows I find annoying, The Price is Right is one of them, about the only so called game show I can deal with is Cash Cab. Mainly because the people on the show can't jump around and scream like raving idiots.

That's right you've won a brand new 2007 toaster oven!
YEEAAAHHHH, WOOHOOO, AAHHHHH! WEEEEEEE! etc etc.

Get over it, please it's a freakin toaster oven.

reminds me of a filipino show "eat bulega", where you could be the lucky winner of a fan or a bag of rice..lol

I loved the newlywed game. When he would say
"And now mary ann and bob, a very special gift chosen just for you. Your very own, brand new, super exciting....dishwasher!"

And it was lime green

Apparently, Bob Barker approves. He did give Drew Carey one good piece of advice, which we all need to follow. Barker told Carey: "Don't try to imitate me. Just be yourself."

On the plus side, the Price is apparently going to be an "on the road" type of show now too, as the set has been remade to be portable. The producers were probably considering something like this for a while but wanted to wait till Bob retired as he's a little old to be traveling the country on a weekly basis. I don't know how Drew Carey will be as far as hosts go, though I'm sure this has a lot more people curious about his new "The Power of 10" show when that starts.

My only real fear for the Price now is that it could become the next Family Feud, in that a new c-list sitcom personality will be dragged in every few seasons in a revolving door of dead or dying careers just to hold onto that sliver of fans who will still follow the show no matter who's hosting it. Given the number of people who are already selling the Price is Right upriver because of Barker's departure, it's a very real possibility.

Based on how bad Power of Ten is, I can't see how he will make Price is Right enjoyable.

CBS was lucky to have Barker for as long as they did.

Old style game show hosts are a dying breed, closer to the master of ceremonies from old radio and variety shows. Carey's bound to be better than smarmy TV personalities like Todd Newton or Billy Bush, since cheesy entertainment show hosts are closer to the old game show hosts. Comedians seem a natural choice, just depends on the comedian/host. Carey could work, as long as he doesn't try to turn it into yet another improv show. Maybe his bud Wayne Brady would have been a good choice.

I don't see Carey or the show lasting another ten years but that's a major long run in TV terms, who knows what will take it's place. Even soap operas' days are numbered.
