Title: slasher movie where killers are dressed in ape suits
Post by: retroman dc on July 27, 2007, 01:06:31 PM
I saw this movie when I was like 9 years old at a friends birthday party. It was a slasher film from the late 70's. a couple key scenes I can remember is one of the survivors finding his girlfriend with an axe in the chest inside the cabin (in fact I think that was on the cover of the video tape). and there's a guy coming out from the attic of the cabin wearing a ape suit. they were trying to scare the people there I think so they can take a treasure?.I remember a skinny dipping scene in a gruesome swamp lake and them spotting the creature/person on shore. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

From my memory, this does not entirely match up, but have you eliminated "Shriek of the Mutilated" as a possibility?

hey Andrew! Good try. I read the synopsis and definitely don't recall them going to watch a boat being built. It also didn't have that weird mask in it. I do remember the cover of the video tape actually had the ending scene from the movie with the girlfriend with an axe through her chest and the boyfriend next to her The boyfriend didn't kill her it was some guys dressed in weird ape suits that emerge from the attic. They were trying to loot the cabin next to the lake for some sort of treasure in the attic. Definitely not Bogey Creek series! haha! though I love boggy Creek on MST3K. Not Shriek of the Mutilated either. no professor in this. Seems like it was just 2 couples that go to the cabin and the cabin is right along a swampy lake that one of the couples go skinny dipping in and they catch a glimpse of the creature along the lake who is just one of the crooks dressed up.

Dangit; I too thought this was titled 'Shriek of the Mutilated'.

Trying to remember the title right now.

Scenes that this includes:

The boyfriend, main character, makes a lone run for help at night while the others lock themselves in the cabin. He runs around this small community screaming for help to only be responded with lights being turned out and people otherwise ignoring him. He runs into a church where he hears singing and pleads for help, but the congregation continues to sing.

When he does get help from the sheriff, he is taken back to the cabin where, upon entering, they see the aftermath of the slaughter where everyone was killed, including the girlfriend with either an axe or large knife sticking out of her chest. The culprits responsible for this, one of which is dressed in a bigfoot type outfit from the neck down, happens to be walking out of an upstairs section, or attic, with a bag of loot.

Got to pick on Andrew for a moment:

'Savage Weekend'?

'Savage Weekend'?

"Shriek of the Mutilated" was my best guess.  After that I was reduced to looking for something via an IMDb search; meaning a movie I had not seen.

You haven't seen Savage Weekend? :tongueout:

Short, one-sentence description; actually shorter than this build-up: soft-porn meets slasher film meets backwoods.

Following your lead...

Lessons learned from Savage Weekend:

1) It doesn't take two to Tango; it can be done separately.
2) Gay men like to stare at naked women; just..ewww...no touching.
3) Women fantasize about being beaten by William Sanderson; apparently, they have no other fantasies involving him.
4) Building a boat requires no carpentry skills whatsoever.
5) Killer stalking you? It's a good time to get naked.
6) A table saw makes for an excellent recliner.
