Title: What's Your Favorite Season?
Post by: Ash on July 29, 2007, 02:14:04 AM
Yesterday, I was out and about and the temperature was in the high 80's.
The humidity levels here in Iowa are known to go through the roof and yesterday was no exception.
I went to Blockbuster and rented Ghost Rider.  After that, I went to the grocery store to pick up some chicken breasts and rice for dinner.
I was gone for about an hour and by the time I got home, my shirt was stuck to me and the inside ring of my hat was drenched because of all the sweating I had done.

I've gotten to the point where I really can't stand summer anymore.

I absolutely hate, hate, hate being hot and sticky.
If I'm riding my mountain bike, it's ok and to be expected.  I'm getting a workout.
But when I'm just riding in my car and totally drenched with sweat because the heat is ungodly, it sucks!

As I've grown older, I find myself looking forward to Fall every year.
I love the cooler temperatures, the leaves turning colors and the crisp smell of the air.

I even like Winter.
Most people I know b***h and complain about how they hate the cold and snow and ice.
I always wondered why they continue to live here.  We have some of the coldest and snowiest winters around.
The snow and ice never really bothered me.
My friends will be shivering up a storm and it doesn't affect me in the slightest.
My 82 year old grandpa always tells me, "Wait 'till you get to be my age.  You won't like the cold so much."
That may be.  But for now, I enjoy the cold and snow of wintertime.

How about you?
What's your favorite season and why?

Although the stickiness gets to me at times, summer is when I'm most happy.  I do however enjoy Spring but it can be a bit cold and it seems the nice days are few and far between where I live.  I love fall, especially early fall but unfortunately its a reminder of the worst season for me is right around the corner, winter.  I've lived in New England all my life and I hate snow and ice.  That and I'm not a big fan of Christmas which of course takes place in winter.

I work in a factory,,,a fruit canning factory. Summer is the busiest time of year...and it's hot and muggy in the plant. They're are no windows. The fan just blows the hot air from the machines around. It gives me bad headaches. If it is 90 outside,it's 110 inside. I don't care for summer at work.
Winter means high heating bills...and being cooped up in the house. I don't like Michigan winters. They're horrible most times.
Spring is ok...but fall is my favorite...I love the fall. All the tourists and work slows down. The trees change, and hHalloween comes. I love Halloween. It's my favorite holiday. Every one is out in the streets, walking with their kids,I get to see people I haven't seen in a long time,put...it's great. Spooky stuff in my yard, horror movies are all over TV,...cool.

Spring, it means winter it over and no more cold weather for a while. Summer here a really HOT and really HUMID it's been in the high 90's low 100's here for a while, we've had no rain and the humid still manages to be humid, falls nice but with my 500 huge trees and zillion leafs fall can be a lot of work getting them up and winter just sucks.

I love the Autumn, but as I get older I am less fond of Winter.  Also don't mind the heat of Summer, but it gets hot and humid here also and I don't enjoy sweating just 'cause I'm breathing!

My birthday is in Autumn, the day after Halloween (All Saints Day or, All Hallows Day) and I have an enormous collection of old (and new) Halloween stuff that I like to drag out and put up.  My friends all think I'm crazy; I do for Halloween what most people might do for Christmas.

Lastly, I have a lot of oak trees around my house and I really don't mind raking leaves!     However, the oaks are a pain in the Spring with the oak flowers and pollen falling and in early Autumn when the acorns come (now acorns are a b***h to clean up.)

I know I'm in the minority but for me, it's Winter. I always feel happiest when there's snow on the ground. Gives everything a nice clean look. Despite the fact I often have to shovel snow for long periods of time (sometimes over an hour), winter also ironically enough tends to be the time of year I have the most free time on my hands.

I love fall best. The gradual chill in the air without any rain (we don't get snow in these parts), the whole Halloween season and the subtle feeling of death and decay. It just fits my mood and mindset.

I really have to say I do like winters in Michigan. My only complaint is that every freaking january the snow melts down to nothing and we get 50 degree weather for a couple of weeks. Then it starts to snow like crazy and we get 1-2 feet of snow in a day. Michigan weather doesn't make any sense.

My favorite time of the year has always been Fall.

Put me in the 'Fall' camp, for most of the reasons above.

Spring is a close second, if for no other reason for that first morning I can comfortably have my first cup of coffee on my front porch.

Gotta go with the Fall folks on this one. Summer was my favorite in school for obvious reasons. Winter was my favorite up until I was old enough to start shoveling the driveway and my friends stopped playing in the snow. Spring was never really my favorite, but it's always good to see some color after the dead of winter. Fall just has the best climates around here. The unbearable heat and humidity of summer is replaced with crisp breezes and the affirming sound of dead leaves crunching underfoot. And there's this oddly embracing smell to the air that reminds you of pumpkin pies... Plus you get Halloween and Thanksgiving, which are two of the better holidays once you're old enough to outgrow the "Christmas magic".

Winter plays to my love of chaos.  When schools and businesses closed for snow days, I'd hop in my beater Ford Escort Hatchback and hit the roads!  Throw caution to the wind and try to get the car stuck in some ridiculous snowbank.  In many ways it was more like boating than driving, sliding across roads, sidewalks, lawns.  If it stalled I'd dig it out with a skateboard and try again.

Winter also has this poetic way of justifying one's petty miseries.  Nothing beats walking down the street, brown snow slushing underfoot, puffing on a cigarette and cursing the gods responsible for your existence.  It seems that without an annual man vs nature struggle, angst is unwarranted.  As such, I have no respect for LA punk bands.

Sadly, for health reasons I had to leave Chicago for warmer climates.  Now I live in Las Vegas, NV, so the only winter I get comes from short trips to visit friends and family around the holidays.  But at least I have that.  When I lived in California I met several people that had never even seen real snow!

Man, I had an Escort hatchback just long enough to drive it through one of upstate NY's worst winters and I'll be damned if it wasn't a little white tank when it came to driving through foot deep slush. Given the limited mortality rates of every car I've driven, I've dragged more than enough different models of car through sh!t weather and the Escort was by far the best. :teddyr:

My Escort had a hole in the floor on the back/passenger side.  We called it the drug hatch:  if a cop flared his lights behind us, we could toss all our contraband safely down the hole.  :teddyr:  But in the winter, snow would come up through the hole and melt, covering the entire floor (and my feet) in water.  Before it was safe to drive, I'd have to stomp on the gas and break pedals to break any ice that had formed since it's last use.

On the plus side, it's acceleration was dismal, so typically it couldn't reach speeds where stopping would be a problem.

I am more of a spring person myself.  It is nice enough that I can start wearing my polo shirts and short sleeve dress shirts without freezing myself to death.  But it's still not hot enough for me to stop wearing long sleeve dress shirts.

Fall.  I like the cooling down and the leaves turning color and hot apple cider (with a bit of brandy for medicinal purposes).  I really like all the seasons, which is one reason I left South Carolina -- couldn't stand having 2 seasons:  hot and warm.  I like winter, though here in Toledo by February I am sick of it.  Spring is great because baseball starts up again and summer is nice and relaxed.

The channel 3 news lady this morning had a joke about the dry spell that's hit Michigan here in the last month or so. It's so dry she saw 2 trees  fighting over a dog!  :bouncegiggle:

Very true. The weather around here changes more often than an incontinent baby has its diaper changed.

You realize how unfunny that is for some of us right now?  Diaper changing jokes will probably not be funny to me for another year or so...

Fall, no contest.

The mix of warm days to cool nights. The first burn of cold air in your lungs on a cool afternoon when it sneaks up on you. Getting to make soups and stews, my favorite things to fix, because they warm you up and taste so hearty. Fresh roasted peanuts. HOt chocolate. The chill in the air make for perfect snuggling weather, so fall is the romantic season to me. The studios put out the movies for grown ups. New episodes of shows I like (but this one is less of a factor now).

And even though I'm not a big sports fan, the return of football season brings a sense of anticipation to everything. Fall just feels full of potential (often undefined) to me.

Sorry, I forgot you just had another kid recently. And to every other Mother/Father with a new born I'm sorry.
