It is a good SciFi Channel movie if it isn't a terrible SciFi Channel movie.  It is sad that we have to resort to such a measure of quality, but the bottom line is these films get consistently good ratings compared to their original series that supposedly have cult followings, most notoriously Battlestar Galactica.  These films almost always beat BSG, Dr. Who, and the rest, even in reruns of films from 2004 or earlier.  The only thing that does better all the time on SciFi is wrestling, which is almost always their number one show of the week.  Their are occasions where the original movies are well done, but usually the judge of quality is if you are entertained.  Boa vs. Python was entertaining, but I doubt the director will ever match that film in fun.  Hammerhead, Shark Attack 3, and Frankenfish are also good films for entertainment value (though SA3 is mostly for laughs)  Mansquito and Basilisk Serpent King are also supposed to be good fun, as is the recently aired Ice Spiders.  I should be getting them viewed soon, I've had a tape of Mansquito recorded for almost a year now. 

I guess the real measure of the SciFi Channel movie is if you remember it years later, and if the remembering isn't repressed pain than the film was all right.  Out of the 52+ movies they get a year, if only 2 or 3 get namedropped a lot, then something is rotten in their production line.  The public should demand better, but won't get it as long as these films make money.

Sometimes SciFi Channel movies can be so bad they hurt, and at that times you shout the name of the network in rage at the night sky, vowing vengeance for the crimes against your soul.
