Title: Tom Snyder Dies at 71
Post by: CheezeFlixz on July 30, 2007, 06:13:58 PM
Man first Ingmar Bergman now Tom Snyder ... who's next. (Hope it isn't me.)

Tom Snyder, who pioneered the late-late network TV talk show with a personal yet abrasive style and his robust, trademark laugh, has died from complications associated with leukemia. He was 71.

See I asked who was next and BAM it was Bill Walsh ... oddly Bill Walsh was my boss for many years when I worked as a robotics engineer for MMT, I really need to call him and ask if he knows he past away. I'm sure he'd be shocked to learn of his demise. (Different B Walsh)

I first really became aware of Tom Snyder when he was hosting the Late late show on CBS back in the 90's I believe it was.

My dad actually met him once and said that Tom was a really, really nice person.

I had heard that Bill Walsh died, sad news, also of Leukemia, but now Tom Snyder!  I remember "The Tomorrow Show" very fondly, and Tom Snyder's interview with Divine where I myself heard Divine state he ate dog doo and became seriously ill afterwards (hepatitis?)  I mention Divine because of recent threads, but Tom Snyder's show was very off the cuff and spontaneous, had so many wonderful guests, back before TV was sold by the millimeter.
Good night Tom, I, for one, will never forget you!

Hated to see this. I also have very fond memories of his "Tomorrow Show".

Anyone remember the show that came on after Snyder in the early 80s? It was called "Overnight" and was hosted by Linda Ellerbee and Lloyd Dobyns. I had a rough time waking up many mornings during the brief run of that show.

CBS did a tribute to Tom last night instead of Craig Ferguson they showed an hour of clips from the 4 or so years he hosted it instead.

Often spoofed by Dan Akroyd on SNL, Snyder was the Larry King of the 70s, although Larry--God bless him--can't hold a candle.  Snyder flipped questions no other interviewer would dare, often resulting in threats of bodily injury.  Good night, Tom.

Tom said that his success was due to the fact that he asked his guests, the questions that ordinary people would have asked his guests.

R.I.P. Tom.
