I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that my taste in movies will never approach what can feasibly be done, a situation I'm sure you are all familiar with.

Let me tell you about my dream movie.

I'm a fairly rabid Lovecraft fan.  As far as genre stuff goes, that guy was brilliant.  So you know what I would love to see, and would pay no small amount of money for?  A synthesis of Lovecraft fiction and giant monster movies.

I know, the personal apocalypse and sanity check that most Lovecraft fiction represents is about the opposite of a giant tentaculared monster destroying a city, but what if it could work?  What if you could follow the slow, global insanity of the dread Cthulhu rising from the ocean and destroying a city while everybody around him went insane?  Hell, bring back that subsonic sound that shook apart theaters when they released Earthquake.

The director would have to be a genius to make it work, but for me it would be just about the best thing ever.

So what pet project do you have in the back of your head you're just waiting for?  I'm waiting for a movie to summon Azathoth to the dismay of all.  What do you want to see?

Mine is a final ending to the mindless sequels of all the slasher flicks, i even started writing fan-fics on another board using my idea to clear up the lingering slasher problems.

Ash (Evil Dead series) versus the overplayed slashers is the basic gist, i know they were wanting to do Ash vs. Freddy/Jason but i took it further.

I went with the one on one route the first was Ash vs. Jason then i was gonna move on down the line Freddy,Myers,Bates,Wishmaster,Leprechaun,Pumpkinhead,Leatherface and family, all the overplayed sequeled out hacks after old Ash gets done with them there will be no more sequels!

Sadly life reared its ugly head and i never got to finish the Ash/Jason story but who knows maybe someday :teddyr:  plus i got a few of the others outlined.

I would love to see a serious bio on Bela Lugosi's tragic fall into drug addiction...and have Robert DeNiro play Bela. Martin Laundau did a great job as Lugosi in ED WOOD...but that was a silly movie! And I wouldn't be able to watch Landau in the role again without conjuring up ED WOOD. I think DeNiro could do it.

You know?  At one point during the first couple days of that Cloverfield/Colossus hype, the buzz around the internet was that it was going to be a Lovecraftian apocalypse movie where the Old Ones rise out of the ocean to bring and end to everything.  I nearly had a heart attack and the mere thought of it sent my imagination soaring.  Then JJ Abrams hit a bunch of sites saying that the Lovecraft theories were from some unrelated alternate reality game crossing over into the viral marketing of his own movie.

While I too would like to a true big screen adaptation of a Lovecraftian fall to insanity, I fear his 'style' just does not lend well to the visual medium (compared to the imagination the reader provides).  That said, psychological thriller is perhaps my favorite sub-genre - the subtle, mind warping kind (a la THE MACHINIST, maybe SESSION 9), not the formulaic, HIDE AND SEEK kind.

So, my 'dream' movie would be one that captures a character's slide into insanity in such a way that the viewer wonders if it is happening to himself as he watches.  Not in an overt, RING-ish "watch this an you die" way, but rather in subtle, reality questioning, "what did I just see" ways.  It would take a director with incredbile vision to pull this off, if it is even possible.

As for mood of this dream flick, it would take elements of some of my favorites: DAS BOOT, THE THING, THE FINAL CUT, THE MACHINIST, and set this mood to such an extreme the viewer is immersed, almost literally, in the story.

The Lovecraft influence would definitely be present.   :smile:

I've pretty much given up on the idea of Hollywood making my dream movie, so I decided to make it myself.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one interested in seeing more monster films...

Have you ever seen the black and white, silent fanfilm The Call of Cthulhu?  It was made a few years ago by a fan society dedicated to Lovecraft and it's outstanding!

10 years ago I would have said a faithful adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, but now that Peter Jackson has already done that...

I'd really go for a faithful envisioning of Michael Moorcock's Elric.  Imagine how amazingly awesome it would be to see Stormbringer howling and sucking souls on the big screen.  The casting would be critical though.

20 years ago I would have said David Bowie as Elric but today I'd put Marilyn Manson in that role given that he has any kind of acting ability.  Supposedly he was doing something with Alejandro Jodorowsky at some point, but I have no idea where that project is these days.

After seeing him as Abe Sapien in HELLBOY, I think Doug Jones (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0427964/) has both the acting chops and the right physique to pull off Elric of Melniboné.  With makeup and red contacts and maybe a little time in the gym, he could be awesome.

Considering the number of changes he made, I'm still waiting for that faithful adaption.  :teddyr:

Mine would be some type of zombie carnage flick.

Every single zombie film starts out with an attack, moves on to a conflicted group of people stuck in a seemingly inescapable situation, and then an ending where only a few of them survive.

Screw that.  I want to see a film with a completely ravaged city full of zombies and a bad ass group of people sent in to annihilate the zombies.  I'm talking guns, guns, guns, guns, and a ton of zombie dismemberment.  Think of what that Shoot 'Em Up trailer would be if it had zombies.
