Title: POLL Who do you trust the least?
Post by: BTM on August 03, 2007, 10:00:48 PM
Lawyers
You got Lawyers, many of whom want to charge you as much as possible for their assistance, which you HAVE to have for anything legally related, and, more often than not, they'll take their time doing the work, because, hey, they're getting paid by the HOUR.  They don't like competition, so don't even try getting legal advice from someone without a law degree, even if that person wouldn't NEED a law degree for what they're advising you because they know from personally experience or whatever.  And God help you if a lawyer is actually suing you.  Even if you win the suit, you're still left with an enormous bill from defending yourself but when a lawyer loses a case, it's no skin on their nose, so they have nothing to risk by suing others. In fact, when it comes to suing people, did you know you could even be named a victim in a lawsuit right now and not even know it, because they don't have to get your permission to name you in such things?

Scary, huh?

Journalists
Course, then again, at least lawyers are accountable (at least in theory) to someone, these guys, if they want to make you look bad, they can, they will, and there's nothing really to stop them.  As Dogbert once said, when asked what qualifies him to be a reporter, "I'm willing to violate anyone's privacy for my own personal gain and then claim with a straight face that the public has a right to know!"

Even if you're one of them and you don't toe the line and match all opinions with what they think is "normal", they'll turn on you like rabid weasels.

Politicians

They're not all crooks, just a good chunk of them.  Power corrupts and absolute power well, you get the idea.  Many start out okay, but when you get to Washington, suddenly find yourself with an entire STAFF at your disposal, you own private parking space, lots of wonderful perks and a bunch of people treating you like a king, some people quickly decide to ignore any, "I'll only serve one term", or "I'll work in the people's best interest" promises.  Heck, in many cases you don't even have to get that far up to fall into the trap, often the "good old boy" networks exist locally too.

Car salesmen

As soon as you stop on the lot, you know they're watching you.  They're gonna say what they can to reel you in.

Guys Who Say, "Trust me."

Need I say more?

Anyone who says "Trust Me".

I've always said that Trust is something that is earned, not given.

Politicians on either side of the aisle.

then

Journalists, they're agenda driven either right or left. I'm not sure there is a honest journalist left in this country.

I can't say lawyers, I'm married to one. :buggedout:

With the first four, you pretty much know what you're getting.

Those guys who go, "Oh, trust me."  Yeah, you don't know with them.  Trust me, I've been one of them.

Damn! this is a hard choice, Maybe you should make an all of the above choice. In the end I went with lawyers. Most of this over suing these days has come from lawyers wanting to make a quick buck. How else can you explain MC Donald's getting sued over a dumb customer spilling their coffee?

Well, it's not listed, but I never trust a woman when she says, "It's not a big deal.  Really."  No matter the topic up for discussion, in my experience it is a big deal.  Always.  :teddyr:

But, getting to the list, I voted for politicians.  It's not that I think they're all crooked, just spineless.  It goes with the territory.  When you're forced to partake in an endless series of popularity contests, it is difficult to not to marginalize your actions.  I don't think it's possible to be both honest and an ass kisser.

I picked anyone who says trust me.  But in reality, I don't trust anyone on the list, though I trust the car salesman more than the rest.  politicians are IMO just yes men, or yes women, to the government.  Journalists just run with ideas and stretch them out of per portions.  Lawyers just look out for them selves and are looking for a case that will get them a big paycheck.

With car salesman it really depends on where you go.  If you are going to a used lot, then I tend to be more cautious then if I would go to a dealership.

Anyone who says trust me, well I got burned a lot from my past from believing people, so I generally don't have trust for a lot of people.

I would rather the poll was for who do you trust the most out of the following list, for me it would be car salesman.
I've had dealings with all of these types and they have all tried to shaft me in one way or another. With the car salesman you know he wants to sell you a new car for as much money as he can get, you want to buy a new car for as little money as possible, so the two of you negotiate a deal, if you do your homework before you go you can get a fair deal and even have some fun getting it, now if you had said used car salesman.

I went with journalists.  People know that car salesmen, politicians, etc are dishonest, but journalists seem to get a pass.  Many times their news reports are nothing more than press releases from politicians they agree with, they almost never present a story in a balanced manner, and really the whole damned lot of them are little more than spin-meisters for their favorite politicians.  I just love reading a news report of some "issue", which is really just a campaign position from some politician presented in such a manner as to make the reader believe that something has happened to thrust this issue into the forefront, and after going on and on for quite some time about how the sky has suddenly began to fall - even though nothing has changed with regard to that particular issue - they then give the opposing side a half-sentence worth of response, and the quote is most likely not even in direct response to the issue presented but some miscellaneous statement on some not-so-closely related issue, making it sound as if the person has no real  response to offer.

Their news reporting should really be counted as soft-money contributions to their preferred politicians because it's no different than advertising.

I am paranoid of all people with too much money and power...and salesmen (ie:Politictions fit both of those descriptions).

I've learned never to trust anyone who owns a Volvo or modular sectional furniture.

I was just reminded of a quote from Once Upon a Time in the West:
Quote
How can you trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders? The man can't even trust his own pants.

Wouldn't that pretty much fall under politicians?  (Granted, except a lot of those in government aren't actually elected, but still...)
