Title: Cats & Dogs
Post by: Ash on August 23, 2007, 03:40:45 AM
I'll just say right up front that I like cats.
I love how they move, how they purr and their attitude.

Cats demand your respect and you have to earn it!

That's strange..because I was raised around dogs.
I do like dogs but only the small ones.
Nothing irritates me more than a big slobbering dog who likes to jump up on you.
Their overbearingness and their dirty paws and their bad breath....UGH!
Some people like that about dogs.  Not me.

Maybe it stems back to my childhood, when the neighbor's two full grown Doberman Pinschers used to run up and down the fence, barking their heads off in anger at my brother, sister & I as we played in the backyard next to them.  We were afraid to go near the fence and I remember my mother complaining several times to the neighbor about them.

I like smaller dogs like Beagles or Miniature Pinschers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_Pinscher).
I wouldn't mind getting a Miniature Pinscher and giving him a big name like Conan or Nitro.

But still, I prefer cats.
I seem to connect with them better than I do with dogs.
They don't demand the constant attention that most dogs require.

How about you?
Cats or dogs?

Yeah, Cats are better. I have a feline at home, and there's evidence of an intelligence there that simply doesn't apply to dogs.

I think it's down to what type of company you enjoy - a cat will provide the company, but only when it's convenient to both of you - it doesn't *need* that company, whereas a dog will give you constant loyal companionship, whether you want it or not.

I'm a total dog person.  Partly, it's because I'm allergic to cat.  Mostly though, I have to deal with enough s**t during the day, I want a pet that's happy to see me not one who's going to make me "earn" it's respect.

I refuse to be required to earn the respect of anything that cannot operate a can opener.  Cats belong in cuisine, not the living room.

I have two cats, Tig and Oliver.  Tig is a fat slob who whines a lot and Ollie is almost an angel of a cat.  My son likes to chase both of them around.

I like cats and dogs, but as far as owning one of them, it's definitely cats.

I wouldn't want to own a dog. Much more high maintenance than a dog.

Plus I like how cats think a lot more.  My cat just turned 17 this past April.

I love both.  Actually I love any animal as long as it's got no more than two eyes or four legs, I draw the line there.

I have both.

I was never a dog person until I was adopted by a female German Shepherd about ten years ago.
She's still around and I now have four others, all above 60 pounds! There are two cats who rule over the house, including the dogs.

cats are unpredictable, moody, have attitude, has enough dignity to not do pointless tricks for our amusement, hold grudges, seek revenge, give affection at their own leisure, make amazing acrobatic moves, interrupt your sleep in the night by kneading their claws in your head or licking your eye, make hillarious chirping noises at birds, have absolutely no fear of any dog in their own house, demand respect and make life a hell of a lot more interesting. Almost as exciting as having an arch villain in your life that you love and love to hate..but regardless of the battles will always meet again.

dogs just pee, drool, stink and are excited everytime you enter a room. I can't respect any animal that cannot be potty trained, have an opinion of their master or stop licking their butt

I like both and have had several of each over the years. I really am an animal person at heart and for the most part prefer the company of animals to most people. Right now we have two dogs, but when the time comes that they grow old and pass away, we plan on getting a kitty.

What strikes me as funny is how people will argue over which is the smarter species, pointing to different things each does as proof of their superior intelligence (cats are independent and clean, dogs pick up on training much faster and easier, etc). To me the two are of equal intelligence, they just think differently. Cats are lone hunters, used to providing for themselves and being solitary, whereas dogs are pack animals and are social and more cooperative). This is how their respective species have evolved for survival and their day to day behavior reflects those instinctive and specialized skills.

My Francine is 14+ years old, always has purty purr for me, has all of her claws ("declawing" a cat is akin to having the first knuckle of a human hand nipped off: extremely painful and crippling.)  My girl, FRANCINE, whose gonads I do admit that I hated having to take years ago, now has kidney failure  ... I never wanted no cat !!  BUT, she has been so kind to me, and remarkably sensitive, bubble-head that she is, wise beyond her years, with BIG EYES, that now, all these years later, she lets me give her the needle she despises and fights me not, and the medicine dropper.. sweet girl she loves everybody...I've had a few cats in my life and also now have two dogs that I love...but, even my old beloved cat SANDY, long gone, cannot hold a candle to my now living FRANCINE..  My Babe, boo-boo lover.

I LOVE DOGS.  But not like special cats.

We have both, 3 cats and 2 dogs....love them to death. They all have their own personalities and all better than some of the people I've met. They give, give, give, never asking for much, which is interesting because that's how I base my life.

And Jason............love it.  :bouncegiggle:

Hmm lotsa women seem to have claws to bare when needed too. Still a part of me wouldn't at all mind them occassionally digging into me in the night.... especially not a gal like Susan who shares many of my interests and doesn't seem at all to mind a bit of good natured teasing.

Back to the topic, I definitely prefer cats. They are less bother and more self-sufficient seems to me.

Dogs for outside and cats for inside.  That's the way it should be.

I found this little guy abandoned out in the salt marshes by my house.  He was only about 5 weeks old at the time.  That was a little over a year ago.
He's now about 60 pounds worth of galloping idiot and my best friend.

I guess that means that I'm a dog person.

Karma for you Izzy

Indeed! I'm thinking mean thoughts to whoever abandoned that puppy in the wild. Kudos to you, Izzy for rescuing him.

lol, 'earn' respect of a cat.

i don't know about you, but I agree with the guy that says he deals with enough stuff that when he comes home, he shouldn't have to earn a cat's respect.

cats are vermin, no better than a rat.

the cat should be earning it's keep by fawning over its owner.

I think that proves why most men are dog people

That is funny. I have quite a few pics of my cat airborn because i always thought she looked funny, she likes doing the acrobatic leaps. I wish i got more when she was under a year old because she used to leap 5 feet high, now she's too lazy..lol

she's too busy blogging (http://www.miabooboo.blogspot.com/)

I am a dog person. My family owns a collie with the biggest snout you'll ever see. I happen to be highly allergic to cats. I don't mind em', but DAMN they make me sneeze!
