Title: Favorite Fruit?
Post by: Scott on August 29, 2007, 08:10:36 AM
There has been some great fruit out there this season. Many fruits now peaking. Which is your favorite?

I've been eating lots of Honey Dew and Watermelon this week. A few weeks ago Strawberries and Blueberries were awesome.

That's not fair.  I can't pick just one.
Can I pick a fruit salad?

Those should be currants.

Never even heard of currants. How are they? Good?

Currants are a little sour.  I don't think that you would want to eat a plain handful of them, but they go good in fruit salads or with yogurt.  That is per my tastes.  I tend to like the sweet and sour mix or a sweet and salty mix.  The main problem I run into is that I never seem to see them for sale in a regular grocery store.

I like my trail mix, like I like my women:  sweet and salty!

I'll have to try a whole bunch of them for myself. The Currants that is.  :teddyr:

thanks for picking up my slack, there Andrew.  I was clueless what they were and was about to suggest Nightshade berries.

Mmmmmm, nightshade berries, they're toxically delicious.

I like most all fruit, but apples are my mainstay.

There's another fruit that I've never heard of. Nightshade Berries? How are they sweet?

Scott.  Nightshade is a poisonous plant.
It was my attempt at humor.  Sorry.   :teddyr:

Phew..........glad I didn't add them to the poll or my salad.

Maybe I should have run right out and picked a batch for myself. Still could I suppose. :bouncegiggle:

Alright, I went with grapes although I'm sure I'll change my mind about that.

I have two blueberry bushes and quite a few rasberry bushes which I pick frequently.  My wife's grandfather has a strawberry farm so I'm lucky in that sense.  They also have a few peach trees there which I mentioned in another thread.

I pretty much enjoy just about any fruit minus only a few.

I like apples. The big yellow kind or the meduim sized sour green ones. I like to cut 'em up and put peanut butter on 'em.

Seriously...

Another vote for apples, as long as they're nice and crispy crunchy.

Biting into a mealy apple makes me gag every time. I spend a good bit of time in the produce section selecting 'just right' apples.

A helpful hint: shiny apples tend to be firm, dull ones tend to be mealy.

I sometimes eat a couple a day, and so far the doctors have stayed far, far away.

I'm a big fan of melons, too.

And some pineapple makes everything taste better! I used to eat pineapple rings right out of the can. Still do, when I can get them.

The only way I'll eat most berries is in cereal form - FrankenBerry, Trixs, BooBerry, Fruity Pebbles, etc.
I can't STAND them little disgusting seeds...

You know Tomatoes are a fruit.

And if you are thinking they are a vegetable, tomatoes grow on a vine, thus a fruit.

I was thinking of adding Tomatoes when I started the post, but the way you can use them to cook gives them a different feel, but you know this is badmovies.org and I think Tomatoes in the Fruit catagory fits nicely.

I love tomatoes no matter how they are served.

I've seen star fruit in the groceries here, but never had the courage to try them.
I like pomegranates, even ig there are way too many seeds in the damn things.

I'm a peach man.  I love peaches.  I prefer the soft and juicy ones over the "hard as a rock" ones though.

Star Fruit is very popular in the Philippines were my wife is from. I had it once, but don't remember how it taste. I'll make it a point to try it again sometime.

It was a hard choice for me, but cherries barely won out over peaches.  Ask me next week and I might change my mind.  The three that usually switch places for my favorite are:  peaches, cherries, kiwi fruit.  We are still going through our mound of delicious - juicy DE peaches and man, are they good.  Put them on the table a few days until they are good and ripe, put them back in the fridge to get chilled, and enjoy.

Star fruit are not my thing.  I remember that they made my mouth feel weird, like I had eaten a very green banana.  Another fruit that I dislike is Asian pears.  When we go over to Korea, Okinawa, or such, it seems like that is one of the major fresh fruits available.  I hate them.  It's like eating fruit cardboard.  Maybe we just get the sucky ones or my Western palate cannot appreciate them.

Much as I love the anti-oxidant-packed blueberry, my fave will always be the Pomegranate

Damn! tough choice! In the end apples won out, because they're portable, not to messy and they're damn good!

But slightly more painful to lodge up your nose and shoot across the room as grapes are.  Thus, not as much fun

Right now, where I work ,we are canning plums. They come in fresh, and we de-pit them ,put them in cans, and cook them (which turns them mushy.) But I walk out back, into the cooler (which is a HUGE pole barn kept freezing cold) and eat one or two. Yummy! Bad thing is-if I eat to many...I gotta run to the bathroom real fast...or else I'll walk there bow-legged real slow!

We don't use the kind pictured above...we use the smaller, really dark purple kind. So good!

For me, it's pineapples!  Of course, bananas and strawberries are very close...
