Title: CILF (Cartoons I'd like to $%#)
Post by: BTM on September 04, 2007, 07:30:15 PM
I'm not sure what's more messed up, the fact someone would think up a song like this, or some of the characters he's included in the lineup.  I mean, hell, I'll admit, I've watched more than my share of racy anime stuff and thought the girls in Disney were kind of hot, but still... the Power Puff Girls?

Wrong!  That's just plain wrong!

In the same disturbing vein as this song, I had a friend drunkenly admit to me that he had a thing for the Beverly Hills Teens.   :bouncegiggle:

I've been working on a Hottest Cartoon Characters article for my site, heh, though it's not quite as jokey as that song. I'm having trouble making the list a decent size though.

Post by: Inyarear on September 10, 2007, 02:59:58 PM
In the best cartoons, I think the comedy actually destroys any prurient interests the viewers might have. Exhibit A:

[youtube=425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oSMTzdDeIs

The girls in the original Macarena music video were all skanky and disgusting. This video, on the other hand, I'd be willing to show to my church youth group, well-endowed cartoon ladies and all. It's kind of the same difference as between Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and Weird Al Yankovic's "Like a Surgeon."

Depends on the cartoon, though. I mean you get stuff like Jessica Rabbit where the exaggeration of the features makes them even more appealing (naturally, in a different kind of way), and the Japanese cartoons where there are more upskirt shots and unnecessary boob flashes than Geri Haliwell at the Brit Awards.

I don't know.  I most certainly caught myself saying "Helloooooo Nurse!" near the beginning of that clip.  But then again, I'm a dirty bastard.

This is off on a tangent, but did anyone else feel a little creeped out when (then 12/13 year-old) Natalie Portman performed this number in Léon (aka The Professional)?

Of course, they were always saying that in the show, too; it's a running gag. One of my favorite variations on this routine was a piece in which these three crazy kids pop up out of a vase full of flowers in the middle of a table, and see that Catwoman is sitting at it: "Hellooo, Kitty!" Nothing too prurient about admitting a woman is attractive, though I suppose it's not a good idea to linger on such things too long.

Heck, you think that's creepy, check out the little girls' performance of Duran Duran's "Notorious" in Donnie Darko. The cops would have taken Patrick Swayze's character in for some serious questioning long before anyone found out for sure about his private perversities, had he tried to book an act like that into my town down here in North Carolina. (For that matter, I kept wondering all the way through the film why no one else had thought to question his sexuality. What kind of single guy his age would want to be in charge of a preteen all-girls' dancing troupe whose act borders on--shall we say--exotic dancing anyway?)

Yeah, well... that kind of anime is mostly targeted more at adults in the first place. I don't think the Roger Rabbit movie was really for kids either, whatever Michael Eisner might have pretended. That said, anime does sometimes use sexual stuff to amplify the comedy or drama, rather than to tittilate the viewer. It's a fine distinction at times, though.

Then too, I've heard there are some hentai (NC-17) cartoons in which sexual stuff is used to amplify horror and disgust instead of for prurient appeal. I read about one hentai movie, for example, in which there was this demonic female humanoid with a pair of carnivorous mandibles where an ordinary woman's reproductive organs are supposed to be. To make things worse, she later transforms into a huge spider-like creature and swallows a lecherous guy whole... with her mandibles... down there.

I wish I could remember what that movie was called. It might be a good strong cure for guys like that singer who've developed a creepy interest in female line drawings.

Something similar happened in Biohunter
A couple were engaged in procreative activities when all of a sudden, he screams and falls off of her.  Cut to a view of her on all fours where things were happening and her breast is chewing on his hand.

Yeah, that rings a bell.

I hope you'll understand when I say the limits of my tolerance for such things would be Perfect Blue, which involved no naughty tentacles or women exploding during sex. (Yes, I've read your Overfiend review (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/overfiend/index.html), esteemed moderator.) It did, however, involve a photographer being graphically stabbed right through the eye as revenge for taking a lot of overly candid photos of a young pop star looking to break into the movies.

Honestly, you show these twisted hentais to those underage punks looking to get their hands on porn, and I bet you could get some of them to take a vow of celibacy for life. As for the rest, they might just stay celibate anyway:

Girlfriend: "Wanna do it, baby?"

Traumatized Guy: "Yeah... sounds great... No kinky stuff, though, OK?"

Girlfriend: "Whaddya mean, no kinky stuff?"

Traumatized Guy: "I mean, please don't turn into a demon and rip my spine out through my urethra!"

Girlfriend: "..."

Suddenly, a plausible explanation for Japan's shrinking population begins to come into focus... :buggedout:

Perfect Blue is definitely a great movie. What I always think about it though is that it could easily be live action - it doesn't really make any use of the animation, kind of like the way the older Simpsons episodes could easily have been a live action sitcom. So Perfect Blue doesn't have that messed up "anime magic" in there - but it's nonetheless a great movie.

...I still can't make a lot of sense out of it though.

It's my understanding that Perfect Blue actually was actually going to be a live-action movie until the studio making it realized it could be made as an animated film for less money. (I'm guessing the special effects budget was the sticking point.) This did make it more immediately accessible to the growing audience of American anime watchers, though.

I think exactly what happened in Perfect Blue was deliberately left a bit ambiguous, since the movie was about how confused Mima was about her own identity. Either way, the conclusion to the story is pretty chilling, because either explanation suggests something really dreadful:

1. Some part of Mima's soul really did break off from her and get into other people, driving them to murder people who had wronged her; now this doppelganger is in almost total control of Rumi at the mental hospital, with Rumi's psychiatrists mistakenly believing her to have a split personality. If this is the case, the doppelganger may escape from Rumi at any time and go on another murderous rampage.

2. Mima actually has a split personality herself, and one of her personalities committed a murder of which the other personality is ignorant, having attributed the murder to Rumi and her similarly split personality. Certainly Rumi (and the crazed fan Mimania) did commit some of the murders, but Mima is mistaken about her own identity, her other self is a murderer still at large, and more people may die at her hand.

Of course, whichever explanation is the right one, the movie's main message also holds true: being a celebrity sucks!

Hahah, option 1 sounds best to me.

By the way, they did do a live action version of Perfect Blue as well, though I heard it's not as good, and I guess you're right, if it wasn't animated I probably never would have watched it.

Did you know that the guy behind "Pi" bought remake rights to the whole movie of Perfect Blue just so that he could use one scene? In his movie "Requiem for a Dream", Jennifer Conelly recreates the same "screaming in the bath" scene almost exactly.

That was definatly Wicked City, there is also a woman in there who turns into a giant vagina. Other sick animes are the La blue girl and Cool Devices series, but thats getting into the japanese weird obsission with rape, bondage and extreme S&M.
Oh and does anyone else remeber the sexy mink charector ( can't remeber her name) from  Animaniacs. When I was a kid I had a weird crush on charector.

I don't normally find redheaded women that attractive (with the exception of the girlfriend, of course...), but for some reason most redheaded cartoon women seem to be smoking hot, and most brunette cartoons tend to look like Velma!

Seems our hankerers for red-headed line-drawings need something to cool them off a bit. Speaking of Perfect Blue, here's black-haired Mima and her murderous alter ego:

This shot reminds me of a passage from Jeff Foxworthy's "No Shirt, No Shoes... No Problem!" in which he talked about how shameless guys are about dating each other's ex-girlfriends.

"Don't you recall me telling you about her chasing me through the parking lot with a butcher knife?"

"Yeah, but she's really good-looking."

Oh, Dawn.  Your comics are so awful but Joe Linsner is such a fantastic artist with a firm grip of, ahem, the female anatomy.

A friend of mine gave me the McFarlane action figure they made of her and I was confronted with one of the most startling toy experiences I've ever had since you could, essentially, take her clothes off to reveal a lithe, nipple-less woman made of plastic.  It's still at home somewhere in a box.

Odd, speaking of cartoon redheads, a good friend of mine was working on an article for his blog about how cartoons have influenced us over to the years to think redheads are hot, and, among other things, we listed a lot of the redheads that have appeared in various shows over the year, like Daphne (chick from Scooby Doo), Ariel (Little Mermaid), and several others.

Sadly, his browser messed up and the whole article was LOST before he saved it.  Dunno if he'll ever try to retype the thing.  I can relate, as I've had a couple livejournal entries go missed because of that...

Can't blame you for that, brother. I still think one of these would make a good object lesson for a misbehaving teen if you catch him (or her) looking at pornography, though. It's sort of like the old practice of making the kid gulp down a shot of 120-proof vodka when you catch him messing around in your liquor cabinet. "Oh, so you wanna see guys and girls going at it, huh? Well, let's see how you like this unbirthing scene in Wicked City!"
