Title: Do you Video Upload?
Post by: Susan on September 07, 2007, 08:34:57 PM
Well we all WATCH you tube or google video, but does anyone here actually upload videos to those sites?

I've seen so much stuff out there from people videotaping a rainstorm on their porch, their dog wiping it's butt on the floor, of people singing in their living rooms, actually TRYING to sing good and sucking hard.  Some have actually gained a celebrity status on you tube.  Does anyone here upload and for what purpose? I found out recently my brother had been uploading old goof videos him and my cousin made, pretending to be cheech and chong, which is funny to think it's out there on the net for the entire world to see.

So in all this video madness that's making everyone into instant internet celebs i felt left out.  :bluesad: I have a cheap camera and no editing software except windows moviemaker which sucks. This file is crunched and only took 2 minutes to upload, clearly it's crap so i've removed it from public search because i'm a big fat chicken. But at least i can say i'm part of the video internet world, dammit. And since i love being heckled in this forum anyhow...

Although clearly without talent. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4215108093920694241&hl=en)

The only thing I've uploaded is some short clips of my dogs, so some friends and family that live far away could see them.

I've posted a couple of things before.  I've been meaning to post more of my material but haven't really been able to due to extremely long load times. Probably because I try to use as much of the 100mb limit I could get.  Haven't uploaded since youtube got bought out so things may have changed.  I only have about three clips on there, but when I get more time I'll load some more/make some new content.  I've been so busy with work I've neglected it a little.

Also Susan, I've been obsessed with that song for quite a while, and am hoping to buy tickets to Daft Punk for when they come to town December 14th or so.

And the video was quite alright, you should see the awful mock clip I did a while ago to celebrate my former single status.  Lip syncing is not my friend, but my excuse is that it was made, start to finish, in under an hour.

[youtube=425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8rax4bCO54

I've been thinking of how to jump more into making shorts in a more international way but have yet to come up with a practical solution.

dean that's great! We all need to do more stuff like this for at least our own amusement..lol Last night I did my deitrich impresion of "falling in love again' But no way i'm showing you that one. I thought about doing something like yours where vs lipsynching i cut together clips of me doing various things, i've not tried anything like that. My problem is moviemaker is crap, i don't wanna buy anything for this i'm just having a bit of fun, so piecing together clips so it's still in synch with the music is impossible. So i gave up and just turned on my pc speaker loud and held the camera near it..lol

I should buy a t-shirt that says "I amuse myself", because whenever i do things like this i swear nobody finds it as funny as i do. ;-) Thanks for sharing that, how many youtube hits did you get?

Title: Re: Do you Video Upload?

Oh it was for fun as a private thing so wasn't really made for hits at all, but I think from memory it's floating somewhere in the 100 odd mark, so very localized, and I suppose that's how I like it for this one at least.  Maybe if I have something better it'll get seen more!  :twirl:

But I think the key is how you tag it on youtube.  Get a high frequency word in there somewhere and you'll at least get on the search page easier.

like sex. i notice that no matter WHAT keywords I use whenever i sort them by view count the same videos always seem to be at the top completely unrelated to my search which means they probably have a huge index of tags..lol

Yes I do!  Not just stuff I've found on the internet, but i've uploaded a few videos I've made myself, some are music videos I've made by taking mp3s and editing together footage from various movies (or, in one case, a TV show) and one of them (The Fruit Bowl) is a short film I made for my digital editing class.

I've got two more videos made that I've been trying to put up, but I'm having a hell of a time converting them to a smaller format youtube will take (the limit is 100 megs, and the videos are in mov format at about 1.6 Gs each (took them from Final Cut Pro.)  Problem is, some converters I use they don't convert the ENTIRE video for some reason, and others I use and the quality of the vid is so degraded it's like I'm watching a blurry Lego movie.

So, if anyone has any tips on that let, me know.

Anyway, what's weird is they took off my Braveheart music video because they said it violated copyright law (I guess Warner or however is real picky about that).  They also took off my Aqua Teen Hunger Force video once, but, months later, when I saw a bunch of other people posting ATHF stuff I put it back up.  (I guess Adultswim is okay with people posting vids.)

If anyone wants to SEE my videos, you can go to my profile at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=DKaidian (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=DKaidian)

Be sure and leave comments!  :)

I'd love to do some video stuff down the line but making the effort on figuring it out is plauging me right now.

fwiw I tried youtube. Again this site really stinks because for the novice, it has a sync issue. My audio wasn't synched up with the video. Google is somewhat the same, not as bad but it kept dropping off my upload and i'd have to re-upload a billion times.

So then i realized that i could upload videos to photobucket, which i've been using for pics. And man the quality is awesome! no sync issues altogether.

ps: any chick who visits badmovies forum is cool  :tongueout:

I have a cheap camera and no editing software except windows moviemaker which sucks. This file is crunched and only took 2 minutes to upload,

Windows Movie Maker is limited, but good for basic things and fun to use in my opinion. Just learned how to use it a few weeks ago. What I do when I save from Windows Movie Maker is size the video down to 1 MB and 150 kbps. Then I upload it onto Youtube.com.

Also I use a pocket Canon Powershot A70 which is just a small digital photo camera that lets me shoot a little video. With my small disk space I can shoot about 20 minutes, but I can't zoom and the mic is poor, but all good practice till I get something different.

Here are my short films I have made so far.

Those are some awesome videos Susan. Susan has good taste and durable funiture. What brand is that couch?

I'm going to have to give couch jumping a try.

My daughter is going to love your Pulp Fiction video. She liked you other videos and I'll show her these when she gets home. She's a big fan of Pulp Fiction.

thanks, i can't sing. lip synching will have to do.

That couch is a 20 year old loveseat that i'm looking for an excuse to get rid of.

The pulp fiction was hard, actually, getting everything synched up. I was also trying too hard to make my lips look like the characters so jules i kept pushing out. plus i gave up in finding actual videos of arnold from green acres

btw scott i'm dumping my videos here (http://www.metacafe.com/channels/pinwheel74/)

Google Video - ok but not user friendly
Yahoo - didn't try it
Photobucket - great for storing the videos but no options to see views, comments, etc
You Tube - popular site but impossible to get viewed
Metacafe - decided favorite. I HIGHLY DOUBT i'll earn any money from my videos but there is the option to collect after a certain # of hits. Who knows , maybe in 20 years i'll garnish $5

i'm thinking of doing the full version of the marlene dietrich song...i WAS going to do "Whatsa matta you" but nobody in their right mind has ever heard of that song. But it cracks me up (inside family joke, we always use the line)

so metacafe may be the way to go for anyone else on here who wants to try and make some $$, i have to admit that within the first hour my videos got more views (which is a piddly few anyhow) than you tube got combined in 3 days. i wonder what's up with that, maybe fewer videos on metacafe so more likely to be seen?

If it is my brother used to have a record of it.

Yep, my brother and I used to listen to that song on a rather scracthed up 45 record.  I sometimes sing it at work and the people around me (save one person who joins in) asks me "what song is that".

I have an account on YouTube, and yes, I've uploaded a few. I haven't put up very much, but I did make and upload this number:

[youtube=425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quqobmd2fF4

Gotta admit, making this kind of music video isn't as fun as it used to be back before there was YouTube, though. The sheer level of social background noise on the internet these days threatens to overwhelm everything.

On the upside, all this background noise does tend to make keeping one's head down a lot easier. When I look at the retarded comments flying back and forth on YouTube, I often wonder "Who WANTS to be seen and admired by more of these people?"

I have been thinking of uploading something about 9/11, though, just so I can ban a million morons from ever commenting on my stuff again. (That's the easy way to do it. One random "9/11 truth" video I saw posted had about 22,000 comments.)

Title: Re: Do you Video Upload?

where did the music score come from on your video? Well done.

yeah the only reason people seem to comment there is to be seen. have you tried metacafe? Apparently my videos suck there, aren't well liked but it's nice to know more people see them than youtube. Guess it's fitting as a badmovies fan i make bad videos.

except, embarassingly enough, my CAT has managed to get over 600 views in a few hours with the highest rating of ALL my videos. And i made little effort to cut together this little homage to mia as i didn't have much video of her to use.

Damn cat.

Here are a couple things I put together recently. This first one is of a recent trip to Ocean City. A video I hadn't finished yet and probably won't. Was going to add some narration, but didn't.

That's "Walk With Me" by the Seekers. I've got an old LP with that one on it from my folks, but I didn't feel like going through all the bother of recording it into the computer, so I just downloaded a backup of it from the internet.

yeah the only reason people seem to comment there is to be seen. have you tried metacafe? Apparently my videos suck there, aren't well liked but it's nice to know more people see them than youtube. Guess it's fitting as a badmovies fan i make bad videos.

As I say, the background noise is everywhere. It's just too bad there aren't more filters available to help weed out all the bozos you meet online.

Your rating's up to over 1,000 views as of this writing, by the way; not bad for a few cute kitty tricks. I don't think your videos really suck, actually; it's just that there are about a million others just like them, as there are for mine. Virtually everybody likes pets, so it's not so surprising you can get ratings like that for this kind of video. What always strikes me odd is seeing how many hits you can get for videos about some completely random and uncontroversial subject, as in this example (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Nostrils&search=Search).

As I tell people sometimes, the most significant effect the internet has had on our culture and cultures everywhere has been that it has put all of human nature on display... ALL of it. These video uploading sites are a further extension of this effect.

Thaks. I actually redid the kung fu video of my cat, the first one had too many 'random' shots. I put more kung fu shots in there. I was really suprised at one point when it was on page 2 for the highest rated videos of the week. LOL.  Let's see how the remake does

The videos I make amuse me, and maybe one other person out there. I spent a lot of time on the "I wanna be evil" and was quite proud of the final outcome. It was like some kooky old classic musical movie number or something..lol  Granted I did it all in my bedroom in the wee hours. I have insomnia

on metacafe i think that the number of hits is based on your thumbnail, i really do think that is what lures people to peek at your video. Besides the description. So if you were to put something totally random like "Naked boobies!" and have a pic of a girls face and the video is actually of joggers you would still probably end up making a ton of hits which could make you money. Unless people were to pay attention to the ratings..lol

I think it is interesting nevertheless that the internet has become an online diary of sorts for the whole world, reaching out to strangers to be noticed. It's also a great outlet for creative people who will normally NEVER get noticed by anyone except those in their personal life for their talents. those i really do enjoy.

What programs are you video clowns using to edit and compile your shorts? I think it'd be fun (and time consuming) to do, but I know I'd never have time to do it, unless I made 1 over a year or so.

Well, I've always made mine with VirtualDub, the Cool96 WAV editor, and DVD Decrypter. You chop the audio into as many parts as necessary, and then look for a clip from your footage that goes with each snippet. Once you've got a clip for each, you put them all together in sequence and dub in the full song. Maybe add a few special effects and some credits, and you're done.

It is rather labor-intensive and requires considerable focus, so yes, a music video can take a long time to produce. This particular one I made from The Nativity Story, however, took only a week; my church announced a talent show in just two weeks, and I didn't want to miss it, so even though I was going to school at the time, I found the time to make it. (The next week was spent arranging for a projector and screen on which to show it.)

The main difficulty is simply coming up with enough inspiration and perspiration to start the video and finish it, respectively. As with other creative endeavors, you have to expend some brain sweat.

i use windows moviemaker. I've never done this before, it was fairly easy and not overly time consuming to do depending on the project.

It DOES however freeze up and crash constantly
