Title: Toy Knock Off And Other Toy Crimes
Post by: Mr. DS on September 18, 2007, 11:45:08 AM
Every so often I'll run across toys that are blatent knock offs of mainstream ones in the stores.  I can hardly ever hold my laughter when I see them.  I figured I'd post a few here that I've seen online.  Feel free to join in with others.

Come to some of the corner stores in my neighborhood.  Some sells toys that look like Power Rangers.  Anytime you see an action figure looking manly and muscular, yet has a pink costume or even purple, it's fake.

Even the classics...wow...

Note:  I changed the post so all lousy toy pictures can be posted here.

Big Fella  :bouncegiggle:

I'm trying to find a pic of the crappy knock-off Voltron toy I remember seeing at flea markets in the 80s. No luck so far.

Dollar stores are always the best for these kinda toys. Before it closed down, the one around the corner from our apartment was selling Chinese knock-offs of the Incredible Hulk. His face looked like an Asian Frankenstein, he was made out of the cheapest plastic possible, his knees bent but his elbows didn't, and for absolutely no reason he came with a little red light in his chest that would turn out if you pushed a button in his back. I bought several and gave some to my comic geek friends. Sadly, the lights on the two I kept both died within a week and there's no where to replace the batteries...  :bluesad:

My all time favorite dollar store toy has to be a collection of cheaply made (shock, awe, surprise) soldier figures, but they were zombie soldiers so they had stuff like exposed brains, chunks blown off their limbs, and not-so-internal organs. I only bought the exposed brain one, then when I went back they were all sold out. I've still got him boxed up somewhere around here...  :teddyr:

I saw a pair of bizarre knockoff "Kung-Fu Panda" figures in a pound shop a couple of days ago. They had 'tracksuit' like clothing painted onto them but you could still see the rippled plastic 'fur' that had been covered up. They were packed in supposed 'martial arts' poses that more closely resembled inept morris dancing. Despite this, they were accompanied by a full selection of plastic ninja-type weapons.
