Title: Preacher director rumors
Post by: RapscallionJones on September 20, 2007, 11:13:25 AM
This was reported earlier this week, but I figured it was definitely worth putting here.

Rumors, maybe, but according to CHUD's report: http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=11772 There is some validity as to whom HBO is persuing to direct the pilot episode of the HBO adaptation of the massively sweet Garth Ennis comic book, Preacher.

How does this sound?
Robert Rodriguez
David Cronenberg
Brian DePalma
Danny Boyle
Alex Proyas

I couldn't care less about the last two but the first three are something to get excited about.

I guess it sounds good.  I've actually been impressed with Rodriguez's work.  His eye for cinematography is astounding, but to be honest, the last comic I read was Joe Linsner's  Cry for Dawn when it was still being marketed by Angry Christ comics.

You can dream, but what are the odds of any of them doing it?

Out of them, Cronenberg is the most interesting choice, I'd really like to see him tackle it, but I think he'd take it too left field...  Though anyone else notice how Ed Harris' character in History Of Violence looks very much like everyone's favorite German antagonist in Preacher?

Rodriguez also has the gruesome streak in him to suit Assface well

Proyas interests me though, not only because I'm biased in favour of him, but because his style is a little different to the body-horror type stuff of Rod and Cron.  DePalma I'm not altogether that interested in, and Danny Boyle would be a good option as well, solid, but I'm not sure how he'd be able to handle the characters [he always seemed shlock to me, even though I loved Sunshine's development]

Needs a mellow touch, but either way, this series/movie has been on the cards for a while, and I'm happy to wait until something good comes out of it since I'm a huge Preacher fan.
