Back in 1993 when I was 19, I lived with my then girlfriend and her parents for the summer in Monticello, Iowa. Because they didn't have air conditioning, they often left the windows open when it got really hot outside. They had a really old house and there were no screens on the windows. And they had two cats that were allowed outside who unwittingly brought tons of fleas in. I tell ya, I'd never experienced fleas until then. It was horrible. The fleas would bite you while you sat watching TV, while you slept and pretty much anywhere else you went in the house. It got to the point where I'd keep a lighter in my pocket and burn the little bastards when I saw them. They're hard to kill though. As soon as you're about to deal death to them, they leap away and disappear into the carpet. They eventually had to bug bomb the house and that got rid of them for a while...but they'd always come back.
