CHINA 9, LIBERTY 37 (1978) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0077327/) - This is a good Western shot in Spain and directed by Monte Hellman and starring Warren Oates, Fabio Testi, Jenny Agutter, and even a role for Sam Peckinpaw. It's really the story of a fallen women. She lives with her older husband played by Warren Oates when suddenly a young gunslinger is released from jail and hired to kill Oates character for the railroad company because they want his land. When Fabio Testi arrives he catches a glimpse of Oates young wife bathing in a hot spring. Later he gets to liking Oates and decides to leave without killing him. Just before leaving she follows Testi to the hot springs and you might guess the rest. Warren Oates finds out, beats his wife, she kills her husband, and rides off with her young lover. Well.......he's not quite dead yet and he along with his brothers track the couple down in the town of Liberty where the circus is in town. It's really a good film. It's an Italian Western, but with Monte Hellman directing it dosn't feel like a Spaghetti Western. Warren Oates seems to have done a few similar Western films like this involving a woman back in the 70's like THE HIRED HAND (1971) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0067204/) and KID BLUE (1973) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0070267/).

(7 out of 10 Stars)   It's not just a Western.
