IF these rats are the result of 'endemic dwarfing' (as are many newly-discovered island-living species) they would have started out much bigger. Somewhere. Or...their large size may imply simply that the rats are the top of the local food chain. Marching into camp unafraid eh? Hmmm. Choose your nightmare.
