Title: I am back
Post by: Andrew on December 22, 2007, 11:22:45 PM
Mostly.  We completed the Toys for Tots drive today.  SSgt Montanaro and myself finally finished something like 24 days straight of going like mad (he got the worst of it), every day, to make things happen.  I should be appearing more often once I catch up on some sleep and time with the family.

I think it's great that you guys do Toys For Tots...when I have extra money, I try to buy something to put in the bins for that...it's such a worthwhile cause.

After hearing of the toy recalls that really put a dent in the Toy's for Tots drive and as a former Marine myself, I went to the store and places a bunch new of mostly Made in USA toys in the Toy's for Tots collection box. Additionally, I was able to nag a few of my more fortunate friends into doing the same. Telling them that there are many kids out there that will do without this Christmas and it's your job to help those who can not help themselves.
A child should never be a victim.

Semper Fi Andrew, I worked the Toys for Tots many, many years ago. It's a very good cause.

It is a good program, trying to make sure that every child receives something and making sure they know that the world is not without hope.  It is just brutal on the Marines, especially the ones assigned certain duties.  If you have Marines attending events and doing pickups, you can swap those around to give them a break so they are not running from dawn to dusk every day.  Not true of the Coordinator billet.  At the one point, I thought Montanaro was going to drop from exhaustion.

This was better than the one year I did it in New York.  I was getting home at 0200 and waking up at 0530.
